@andersonmarlen8801 it's pretty fair: the PCE was released about 2 years before the Genesis, and the PCE-CD add on went to market at the same time as the Genesis in Japan. So it's exactly the same age.
It's pretty remarkable how good the PCE was: it's only got an 8-bit cpu!

While I will always choose the Genesis over the TG-16, NEC/Hudson's 16-bit machine is super sweet. Excellent video!
Altered Beast- The Genesis is missing the arm scaling effect when you take a zombie out. The parallax scrolling on the Genesis port is not in the arcade version at all (pretty neat!).
Forgotten Worlds- The TG-16 version of Forgotten World's is a CD ROM ROM title. Further, it lacks two player support like the Genesis. Finally, Forgotten Worlds on the TG-16 CD has a ton of flicker and slowdown mid game moving forward.
The Ninja Warriors- You can also play as the male robot ninja that wears all black. I love that game in the arcades and Sega CD.
Street Fighter II- We Sega fans got hosed big time. There is no viable reason for the game to sound as it did. The CPS-1 cab has so much in common with the Genesis hardware it's insane. The sound chip is almost identical. This is why an indy developer was able to fix both Street Fighter games on the Genesis giving it arcade perfect sound (no joke). They also fixed the in-game colors and it now looks as vibrant as the arcade version and with every background detail on bone stock hardware without slowdown or flicker. If you haven't checked it out you really should.
On a side note- Mortal Kombat was also given the fan fix and now the Genesis has an almost arcade perfect port of it as well! Did you know Mortal Kombat was supposed to be a TG-16 exclusive? Unfortunately, NEC/Hudson refused to pay royalties on an untested game especially against Street Fighter and whatever SNK was cooking up. Oops....

I recently played through all the 16 bit Valis (genesis/MD and PCE/TG16 platforms). A little uneven in quality but always fun and really enjoyed it. Prior to this all I had played was renting Valis III on Genesis when it was a new game. I was pretty obsessed with anything that seemed remotely connected to anime back then.

Which is your favorite of the entire series on all systems? Have you played the Sharp X68 original Valis 2? That one's my favorite out of the entire series...the atmosphere is really good in that, but all Valis games have that awesome surreal atmosphere. Valis 4 on PC Engine is my favorite of the console games. BTW...if you like Valis that much like I do, you'd love knowing there's another game out there that plays and looks almost exactly like a Valis game..I might even like it MORE than Valis lol...it's called Devil Hunter Yohko on the Megadrive. It's a faster paced game, and feels like it should've been in the arcades. What did you think of the Valis 4 on SNES? It wasn't even a Telenet game...but it was surprisingly cool as heck too.

35:40 The PCE version also completely lacks "Turbo" speed fighting modes which were a selling point in "Hyper Fighting" and were in Genesis SCE as well as in Super Street Fighter II.
It boggles my mind how the og PCE fanatics prop up the PCE version of SF2 while neglecting the more original fighting games on the PCE CD.

Not just the turbo speed, but also new moves (like Blanka's vertical ball), and many moves have new properties (Spinning Bird Kick is invincible on start-up, helping Chun-Li get out of corner traps). M. Bison is stupidly good in normal Champion Edition. In Hyper Fighting, he's okay.

It is impressive for a turbo 8 bit with 16 bit gpu. The voices surprisingly are even better than the SNES! Music is just what you expected a regular card game to sound like. • @voteDC

I think the controller for the PC Engine/TurboGrafix-16 was a decent contributing factor to how it didn't get much success in the west. People looked at its two button controller and instantly compared it to what Sega were offering with the Genesis. While it later had a six button controller it was already too late because then Sega did as well, and Nintendo set the standard most controllers follow today with the SNES.

The biggest issue is it just wasn't widely available outside Japan, at least in Europe. You had to import it and buy it mail order or in specialist shops. And the PAL TV compatibility was an issue too. An official PAL "TurboGrafx" planned for 1990 was cancelled due to the disappointing North American launch

thats definitely subjective. it completely depends on what type game you preferred...snes SUCKED when it came to sports...or atleast it sucked compared to the genesis as far as sports are concerned. the sega genesis was just better with games that seemed aimed at a more mature audience...cartoony, kid games and action/adventure games tended to be a bit better on snes. both systems had their pros and cons and beat out the other in certain categories. they were both steps ahead of the tg16...they should of brought out the tg16 a couple years earlier (whenever it was released overseas (pc engine))...gave it a heavier push and dang sure gave the controller more than 2 dang buttons...that killed it too. anyways...the oc engine (TG16) definitely had its chance and blew it with marketing,

Also, ROM hacks have been released for SF2, to make the colours and sound much closer to the arcade version. I suspect that Capcom made those compromises to squuze the game on to a smaller memory cartridge. Similar hacks exist for the Mortal Kombat games.

The Sega CD version is missing key graphical features, like the water draining, or hiding part of the screen while going under the waterfall. I thought of another one - Dungeon Explorer. Oh and Exodus, I think that’s right.
MUSHA is better in Japanese (Aleate - Full Metal Fighter Elinor). I played it last night. There’s a new stage and the game doesn’t slow down at the gunship. The difficulty curves are better I think. You can’t read him saying “Shut Up Greg!” Unfortunately though.
I would have compared Spriggan with Robo Aleste on the Mega CD as they are both medieval themed.

9:05 _"This one is widely regarded as the best Castlevania game ever made"_
Not really. While it's true that _some_ people say that, I'm fairly certain the overwhelming majority of Castlevania fans would cite SOTN as the best, and do so without hesitation.
Rondo is easily a top 5 Castlevania title, but part of it's mystique also comes from its former status as a coveted import-only game for a system almost nobody outside of Japan owned.

    • @GregsGameRoom
      @GregsGameRoom  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The Sega Genesis console has the following disadvantages: Music, Poor elaboration of objects (as if "Blurred", Blurred), no clarity. There are no three-dimensional effects. Enjoyable video; there are some key differences between Lords of Thunder on the two consoles though. One is that while the music is amazing either way and generally the same compositions, the Sega CD is modestly re-arranged in some parts and the guitar solos are different between the two versions. The Sega CD version is more washed out looking with the Turbo CD being more vivid. Sega CD version is noticeably easier on default setting but I don't mind that as if I feel like a more casual play-through I'll go for that one. I do have a slight lean towards the Turbo CD musical variations but as you alluded to the mix is quieter and in addition the sound effect when collecting currency is very loud, drowning it out even more; this was wisely changed for the Sega CD version. Other sound effects though like the some of the enemies and bosses are superior on the Turbo version. You can't go wrong either way and both are worth playing though more than once, or several times.
Also I'm wondering why you pitted Mega Turrican vs. the PC Engine original Turrican when the Genesis also had a port of the original game in this series, which would be the apt comparison.
