First episode I ever watched, also one of my favorites to watch during chemotherapy, Watching these guys talk about old games always brings me back to being a kid! Better times!
The best part about your videos is the editing. It's great that you show every game you mention: even if it's just for comparison purposes or to illustrate a point. I think Mystic Defender is a wonderful game and has been one of my favorite Genesis games since it came out. It's good to see it get some attention.
Thank you guys for thinking air diver was an overlooked game!! I used to play this game from sunrise to sunset and I've never gotten to beat it until this last summer...almost 15 years! You guys are the best! Keep up the good work!
Haha wow! I know this prob won't get read but here goes nothing. I subbed to you guys awhile back because I find you both very funny and informative. Today I rediscovered an old gem Spell Caster for the Sega genesis. I must have easily spent the last 7-8 years lightly prodding my subconcious for the name of that distinct game. Thanks to you guys my mind can finally rest.! -Much respect from your fan Will.
I agree. They go over so many games I've never heard of and I've been looking into soo many older/overlooked games because of these guys. I also love the humor.
Klonoa is an outstanding game. It's not the first to have 2D movement that warps through the third dimension like that, though. NiGHTS Into Dreams did that in 1996. In fact, Klonoa is very clearly inspired by NiGHTS in a lot of ways: every stage is a dream (or "vision"), they both have a made-up language, the final bosses are very similar, they both sometimes switch to a section where you're flying into the screen and you move around within the borders, the stages end with boss fights that take place in a circular room, etc. I wish more games stole elements from NiGHTS.
I was hoping you'd remember to mention the Klonoa remake on Wii-- and you did! That's one thing I love about you guys. You are always careful to point out remakes or ports to other platforms, or the version that was left in Japan, or whatever. It's always very interesting seeing the differences between the various versions of classic games. Keep up the good work!
All hail the sack! I love your show guys, it makes my Sunday mornings all the more enjoyable, and generally gives me great suggestions for games to check out. Thank you very much for all the effort you put into entertaining us!
I was shocked to see Super Chase HQ in there. I thought I was the only one who liked that game. I discovered Drill Dozer when I discovered emulation and had to have the physical copy. I'm gonna give all the other games a go for sure. You guys do such an amazing job sharing truly great games whether they be expensive and rare, or cheap and common. You guys deserve all your success because you're actually good at what you do unlike most who just wanna talk about their collection. Go Game Sack!!!
Greatest hidden gem of all time is Deception 3; Dark illusion for Playstation 1. Please play this game. I've never seen anyone review it and if I ever come across a copy I will send it to you. This game truly defies genre. Great video by the way!
I'm glad that you guys mentioned 3D Dot Game Heroes. I took a chance and bought it without knowing anything about it, and I had a smile on my face as soon as the title screen came up. Definitely overlooked.
Great episode fellahs! Here's some overlooked gems, in my opinion: -Car Battler Joe on the GBA. Great mix of mode 7 driving and car customization. Kind of RPG like. -The Terminator for Sega CD. Amazing platformer that follows the look and feel of the first movie and even starts before the movie picks up. Incredible soundtrack is icing on the cake. -Cannon Spike for the Dreamcast was this cool multi-directional shooter that stars Cammy from street fighter.
Predator 2 was done by a company called TWG did just before I joined them, They'd just wrapped it up and my lead Art Paul Mitchell had done all the graphics for it, we then did the Infamous Wolverine Adamantium Rage :).
Don't worry we are understanding. We won't come after you with pitchforks TODAY, but we might in a day or so... Keep up the good work guys. Your show is amazing
Gone on an absolute spree the last few days watching yer videos..great production value and ye don't take yourselves too seriously..delighted I subbed, 👍👍
Excellent channel guys! I usually watch 2-4 episodes in a row. Hard to stop. Keep it up dudes! And I completely agree on 3D Dot Game Heroes. The very best Zelda clone I've ever played, and most likely the best one out there.
Wow.. LOVED the NEW background on this show, i have said it before and ill say it again you guys are the #1 BEST Retro Video Game Show on youtube.. please dont ever stop making these amazing shows....loooonger ;) Loved the ending.. please MORE TG-16 CD System/Games and Neo Geo system/games reviews !!! NOW !!lol
MYSTIC DEFENDER! YES! I used to play that game when I was a kid, and I've been trying to remember what it was called for over a decade! Now that I know what it's called, I can go find it again! Thank you so much! =D
POCKET FIGHTERS !, i had that game when i was 12, and i dont regret a thing, i love the game, the animation, the combos, the game play, everything, it was my favorite game at the time.
Landstalker was great, its only flaw was the isometric view, at some of the later sections you would always fall down cos you couldn't judge where you were jumping
Moondog954 I liked the isometric view, for me the only flaw was not knowing where the hell you were half the time. Wandering around the map and wondering if you were going the right way or not lol. Still, something I love having in my genesis collection.
You guys have become SO much more natural at reading your lines -- I'm really impressed! Keep up the good work! You had some great picks this episode, but might I recommend a title that seemingly NO ONE has heard of? "Lack of Love" on the Dreamcast is a tremendous title by ex-SquareSoft employees. Consolevania has a great overview of the title on TH-cam, but it's still criminally overlooked.
i've always loved Pocket Fighter, from the arcade and all! I had the Japanese home version and did the disc swap trick to get it to work on my PS1....so much fun! i had always remembered Drill Dozer from its review in EGM, but never played it....looks like fun! I've grown to love Mr. Driller series (which, yeah, isn't the same) so maybe i'll love this drill game. :)
Ah yes, "Klonoa" that was a great game. I actually got that game from my grandma during a holiday. It holds a special place in my heart, not just because it's a hidden gem, but for it being the last game my grandma gave to me before she past away.
The first in the series was localized as Felony 11-79, it's on PSX. You might like it! It's kind of a sloppy driving game, but you're encouraged to make a bunch of stuff go smash and boom.
I've played Pocket Fighter, and it's great fun! Like these two had said, one of the best things about it is that the combo animations are rather hilarious. Chun-Li turns into a cheerleader and a policewoman, Lei Lei drops a clock on you, then serves up fried rice, and freaking Akuma becomes a construction worker smacking you with a piece of lumber of all things xD The other one I personally played here is Klonoa. It's true that this game is rather overlooked then, just because it's too cutesy and childish-like for most people, the assumed that the platforming is easy. Heh, try getting to Stage 6 with the vanishing platforms and then say it's easy. Solid platformer, and decent music and artstyle.
YES! I literally just bought Mystic Defender yesterday! And Pocket Fighter last week. I was a bit surprised to see Air Diver, but maybe I'll give it another go. It's in my stack of Megadrive games that don't get any attention, if I recall. Another great episode, gentlemen!
One of Jeremy Soule's first games. He is famous for making sound tracks from anything from Total Annihilation, Guild Wars, Skyrim and many other titles, I especially enjoyed his work for Cavedog Entertainment. To be honest though when Chris Taylor went with Square Enix I was kinda meh, But I was never a fan of them and I believe Supreme Commander flopped because of it.
Good ep, guys. Yeah, I've playd most of those games and they pretty damn good. Some of my pics of overlooked games are: Shadowman (N64, PSX, DC, PC) Oni (PS2 PC) Bionic Commando and its remake/sequel.
Thank you for doing Mystic Defender. I had Spellcaster for the Sega Master System and never knew it had a sequel. I guess I'll be adding that to my wish list of old games.
Haven't even seen the rest of the video yet, but... thank you, thank you for Mystic Defender! :D It was the second Mega Drive game I owned, and when I go into trips down memory lane, it still holds up as a solid action platformer to this day =)
Jade Cocoon on PS1 was overlooked, it's a pokemon type game where you can merge the creatures together combining their looks, type, magic and abilities. Has some great characters, bosses and voice acting plus the graphics were great for it's time. The game also features and endless corridor at the end where you keep adventuring through different forests, battle/capture minions, battle more bosses and collect boss skins. Really fun and addictive for any RPG/Pokemon game fans.
19:06 Pandemonium (also a 2.5D platformer) by Crystal Dynamics was released on October 31st 1996 for the PS1. Its the oldest 2.5D Platformer I could dig up in my memory, maybe someone else remembers an even older one. Klonoa was released in 1997, so that's definitely more "recent".
Ha I saw that middle section where you guys are just talking heads in front of a screen behind you with the blank backdrop.. Now I know you have figured all that out..time for a let's play mst3k style :) Great episode. I have actually heard/own of about 1/2 of these games and damnit do I love the fact you guys get great quality recording the games (and yourselves) for these video's. It really helps.
Stumbled upon your video, and at first, was a little hesitant and nearly stopped. However, very well done, and very nostalgic. Good job guys... subscribed :D
One game I always thought was overlooked was Topgear 3000 on the SNES. It was released late in the life cycle, but had many great things. You may not have been able to change which car you drove, but you could change the color and upgrade it in the championship mode. I showed it to a friend who had never even heard of it and loved it. This was only a few weeks ago.
As soon as i saw the first game you said Skullmonkeys, that game is bloody amazing. I remember playing it before i had my own PS1, i mostly remember the unique music.
I bought Pocket Fighters immediately after this was posted. So yes, back in 2013. I was going to move "soon" though, so i never unboxed it but put it in the basement. Well, i just moved 2 weeks ago (here in 2020, 7 years later during covid!), and i just found this gem yesterday! I guess now i have to prioritize hooking up the PS stuff now, Thanks Joe!
A few overlooked games from my collection: -Catrap (Gameboy) -Gargoyle's Quest (Gameboy) and it's NES sequel. It's more well known now because of Firebrand being in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 -Rollergames (NES) I remember this being really fun -Crystalis (NES) -Phantasy Star Collection (GBA) This includes Phantasy Star I, II and III
I'm really surprised that Dave didn't mention amazing level of detail of jet's cockpit in Air Diver. I, personally, appreciate that bit about the game.
Great video guys always find at least one new game to try from your vids. You guys should do an episode on good games with difficult controls. I think that would be a good one.
First episode I ever watched, also one of my favorites to watch during chemotherapy, Watching these guys talk about old games always brings me back to being a kid! Better times!
Liquid Jake three years late but I hope everything ended up alright for you mate
Abbey McNeill Doing great, as far as I know I am healthy now :)

I bought 3D Dot Game Heroes on release day and it's one of my favorites on the PS3.
22:12 Fun Fact: The music for this mini game in 3D Dot Game Heroes was used as the outro music for Scott the Woz videos until 2021.
I agree. It's a well balanced show with the right dose of information and humor. Keep on the good work.
Thank you guys for thinking air diver was an overlooked game!! I used to play this game from sunrise to sunset and I've never gotten to beat it until this last summer...almost 15 years! You guys are the best! Keep up the good work!

I agree. They go over so many games I've never heard of and I've been looking into soo many older/overlooked games because of these guys. I also love the humor.
It was really refreshing to see games that I really haven't heard about. Great video!
I love the ending to this one. Very funny bit you guys did there, and Joe's reaction during the last couple seconds of the video is just classic.
I totally nostalgia-ed hard-core when you brought up 'Mystic Defender'. I loved that game so much back in the early 90s.
Klonoa is an outstanding game. It's not the first to have 2D movement that warps through the third dimension like that, though. NiGHTS Into Dreams did that in 1996. Awh yeah! I love Game Sack. Seriously my new favorite show on TH-cam.
Another fine episode, guys!
I played most of these games and agree that they deserved better!

The Neverhood original is also an overlooked gem. Similarly great music, great gameplay, puzzles and great ambiance.
Predator 2 was done by a company called TWG did just before I joined them, They'd just wrapped it up and my lead Art Paul Mitchell had done all the graphics for it, we then did the Infamous Wolverine Adamantium Rage :).
nice episode as always.
What I like about your show is that I get to know games that I didn't Know they existed
Keep it up guys
Game Sacks are one of my favorite videos to look forward to watching :)
Don't worry we are understanding. We won't come after you with pitchforks TODAY, but we might in a day or so...
Keep up the good work guys. Your show is amazing
Love to see that Klonoa got covered. I'd like to see someone talk about Terranigma and maybe Secret of Evermore.
Still my fave channel...rewatching everything....again
Cobra was originaly a manga. I grew up watching the Cobra anime, really cool stuff. The first episode reminds me of Total Recall.
Gone on an absolute spree the last few days watching yer videos..great production value and ye don't take yourselves too seriously..delighted I subbed, 👍👍

And I completely agree on 3D Dot Game Heroes. The very best Zelda clone I've ever played, and most likely the best one out there.
Drill Dozer was a phenomenal game. That and Astro boy were my two favorites of the GBA.
You know what's a overlooked gem? This show. I love your alls episodes
holy crap! that claymation game looks friggen awesome!
It's out now. Check it out!
I second your statement regarding Dynamite Headdy. Absolutely fantastic game of which almost no one has ever heard.

"I've seen plenty of people on fire and I don't know what they were thinking." LMAO Dave is a god
Tomba on PS1 is a really overlooked and underrated game.
LandStalker is a classic that so few people know.
Moondog954 oh boy you'd hate Light Crusader, which is an isometric RPG made by Treasure.
Giordan Diodato I love that one too.
Giordan Diodato yeah i've played Light Crusader and yeah it was the same kind of problem lol, haven't played enough of it though.
I am so glad I found your channel this late. What I mean by that is that I now have years of content to catch up on :D
I love how you guys poke fun at yourselves in these videos, like with the filler bit. :P
Wow, I actually remember my older brother playing Skullmonkeys waaaay back. Thank you so much for having this on your list!
Yes it is. In my opinion Game Sack deserves as many subscribers and views as Classic Game Room
The BEST bonus-round music is from Battleblock Theater
19:04 @ pandemonium for pc had 3d backgrounds / playfield in 1996 before Klonoa
Need more clay animation games. They just look so cool.

Overlooked i right. I've ever even heard of any of these games, but I definitely plan to get my hands on a few of them. Great episode!!
Secret of Evermore. I never see this on any lists and I liked it more than secret of mana. Its for the snes and the graphics were amazing.
Same here!
I really love SoE !!! Its fantastic!
Still wishing for an HD Remake with a lot more Worlds and everything or a Sequel!

Panzer Dragoon Orta on Xbox
Klonoa was great! Pandemonium also did the 2.5d thing early on in the psx life

Game Sack rules! and because of your amazing review I purchase 3D dot heroes. Wow, this game is a gem

Incredible selection of almost unknown games! I knew some of them but you are absolutely right, these games didn't get the attention they deserved! ;D
Yup!
One game I always thought was overlooked was Topgear 3000 on the SNES. It was released late in the life cycle, but had many great things. Thanks. Fixed (might require a refresh).
The music for the first level of Mystic Defender is one of my favorite tracks
GameSack is an overlooked gem, for sure
I loved the music in Air Diver. Classic Genesis/MegaDrive jams.
The soundtrack for Scorcher is done completely by the Saturn's internal hardware (aka chiptunes). Great stuff.
As soon as i saw the first game you said Skullmonkeys, that game is bloody amazing. I remember playing it before i had my own PS1, i mostly remember the unique music.
Not yet!
Omg I loved Air Diver's music too. Good ole' Genesis tunes.
Death Tank Zwei was all ways one of my favorite. It was hidden on the Duke Nukem Disc on the Saturn. I loved that game
Plsssss tell me, in the ms Spellcaster, was there a spell called Hakuji? I `ve looking for that game for a while
Awesome segway! Keep it up, gamesackers!
COBRA is my childhood. I definetly recommend the anime
Terraniga/Gia trilogy, Ghost Trick , and Vanquish are the frist ones to come to mind when I think of overlooked games
Have you guys tried the remake of klonoa on the wii ? Wondering if its as good as the origional before i decide which to get
i love the break in the video for jokey conversations
Klonoa is one of my favorite games of all time. The sequel on PS2 was just beautiful and maddening at the same time.
I've been curious about 3D Dot Game Heroes for a long time. Thanks to this video, I'm for sure gonna get it now. Cheers, guys! :)
Sweet video!thanks for a look at some of these lost treasures.
A few overlooked games from my collection:
-Catrap (Gameboy)
-Gargoyle's Quest (Gameboy) and it's NES sequel. It's more well known now because of Firebrand being in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
-Rollergames (NES) I remember this being really fun
-Crystalis (NES)
-Phantasy Star Collection (GBA) This includes Phantasy Star I, II and III
Drilldozer is amazing,I played it a looong time ago and I loved every second of it
Thanks! It's just as fun to make these as it is for you to watch.
Drill Dozer was a really nice surprise from Game Freaks back then. Totally agree!
