YES. People think interior design is putting furniture in a room or just picking fabrics when that is the last thing we do, and we barely do it. I am in school for interior design (architecture) and it is SOO much more. It is not easy, and very time consuming but I love it!!
You are SO right on when it comes to architects and their snobbery! Here in Southern California at some colleges, they combine the architecture students with Interior Design students for classes like AutoCAD and drafting. (Yes, they still make us learn drafting... which you would only use if your computer was down, LOL!) And the way interior designers are treated in those classes.... TERRIBLE. Many of the schools have expanded their interior design programs so that only interior design students will be in an AutoCAD class. We had to do a project when I was in my second year of school where the architectural students designed the outside of the building, and we designed the interior. By the end, there was HUGE bickering because they put windows in places that didn't make sense for interiors, they put spaces/buildouts that couldn't be utilized because there wasn't enough room to create any function for that space. So we all took their CAD documents, moved windows, doors, walls, etc and put things the way they should be. Ours looked nice, and actually made the exterior look better, too! So there's a bad relationship between architects and interior designers here. And YES, they do NOT want you calling yourselves interior architects. LOL! But that's the best way to distinguish the difference between a designer and a decorator. You did a great job explaining what the differences are. Of course we here just say, Architects create the outside of your building with 5-7 years of education, we create the inside of your building with 2-3 years of education (learning both the architectural side and the decorating side), and a decorator can place a nice pillow on your new couch... with no education at all. HAHA! Interior Design is freaking hard! It's not for the faint of heart. But once you learn it, you have some pretty powerful knowledge!
I am an architect in the US and I agree with you on architects overlooking the importance of the interior. Part is it is the schools and modernist philosophy.

I'm trying to leave architecture. Thank you for making this video. Very insightful. I wrote down my hobbies, personality traits, and what I'm good at and it all seems to fit better into interior design. Is interior architecture concept based similar to architecture or is it more technical? I had some confusion understanding that part. Also I don't know if anyone here is like an ISFP personality type but I am and realized that architecture is a really mental/emotionally draining career for us. I felt inspired by making buildings but when I got into the more tedious work it's a painful gruesome journey especially for coming up with concepts.
Your video was so helpful! 📐😊 I just started my Interior Design program at my university and I heavily underestimated the workload 😓. Could you share your tips on how to study (including even note taking) and manage the workload and assignments? Thank you!!
Interior Decorating is actually a job you have to market yourself. You have to get your own clients and work hard to actually make money. Their is no employment for interior decorating. Nor any college unless you want extra knowledge. But Its far more fun when you finally get passed the beggining stages of gaining clients. I’m currently 15 years old & I have done alot of research. I don’t think their has ever been a job I ever wanted more in my life. I wanted to orginally be an interior decorator but found out that you don’t need college for it and your on your own. I much rather have a guaranteed job for when I get out of college so I can be financially stable. So with that being said I kinda decided to go with interior designing because I also love the fact of being creative and designing the interior of an house. Now I have came to another problem which is the fact that I have to be skilled at drawing. I look at other interior designers map out drawings and I’m shook. I’m not good at drawing at all! But I love the thought of this career so much but it seems like their is more cons than pros. Oher people seem to be having this exact problem too. But only worse they are already in college and going for the major. Im glad that I catched on to what I need to learn I’m gonna try to maybe take classes early on and start figuring out how I can make this work. Its the only job I want. I don’t want to settle for anything less and then regret it. 😞
I would like to do interior designing and I am 32 now...I am sound engineer but I have built quite a few things and have an interest in interior design
Just found your channel... and really enjoyed your video! Thank you for that clear explanation and useful information. Look forward to watching more of your videos :)
Hey, I have finished Interior Architecture BA this summer with top grade, I want to bring emotion and make a difference with space design as you mentioned you are aiming for yourself, I am contacting and trying to make connections as I go. I am also looking to give my time for some work experience in this field, please let me know if you are open or in need for a helping hand. Very informative video and very relatable information!✨
Thank you so much Diana & congratulations with your degree👏🌟👏🌟 At the moment we are not looking for anyone to join the team but that may change in the future! I wish you all the best with your job search☺️🍀🙏
Wow, congratulations on your top grade BA. After everything she said in the video, you are clearly one of those special people with the talent, skills, acumen, and stamina required to accomplish that level. I am just finishing my first semester and I am struggling immensely. I am guessing I do not have all that someone like you has, to do that. It's pretty depressing...not sure what to do about that yet.
Hello there..... very insightful 💯💯💯 I'm an interior design student in Kenya and I looooooove this course honestly..... would love to major on interior architecture though❣️
You scared me… if the major is so stressful I won’t handle it I know myself. But I love interior design so much I don’t know if I should pick it or not. Also great video!
I would say do your search before hand! I’m in my second semester and even though I love what we’re doing I can’t tell how much more I can handle. The amount of work and pressure is so much that it is impossible to do anything else if you want to get the work done as you are conctantly working for your projects.
Interior Architect from the USA here!having all kinds of uni flash backs after watching this, ha! I love this, great quick snap shot of design and the break down interiors/interior arch/ and arch.... as articulation is a huge part of the job too right?! I got into interior architecture (IA) for similar reasons, did’t want to work on one project for years, really care about the way a space “feels” more than building systems... all that major technical stuff. Hope you didn’t scare anyone off... but then again, they might not be suited for the industry if so 😸.
Actually it is not illigal for you to design a building from scratch.. There's is no design stage which only chartered architect has power to do. The only thing which is protected by law is the title of Arctitect but not the job (suprisingly) . I am part II architectural assistant and I found out about that only now.. When starting the last stage of architectural education in RIBA part III book..
Dw! At my university they judge the work not presentation (but having strong presenting skills helps when it comes to the real world and the job!) I wouldn't worry because everyone hates it and starts at the same level! The more you do, the better you become🥰
I always thought interior design was pillows and paint. Recently I learned it's the opposite so now I'm so much more interested. My dad is in construction and growing up I enjoyed drawing floor plans so I guess I'm familiar with some things.
Hi, as someone in the industry just wondering if you have heard of the National Design Academy? I’m looking at starting with the interior design diploma with them to see how I get on before commiting to the degree eventually, although not necessarily needed.
You said that exams have to be taken to become an interior architect in North America, and in the UK they don't. Would you happen to know about Australia? I've tried to inquire my school about it, but it's so hard to get adults to give straight answers to kids.
Studying English and physics a-level right now means that I can't listen to songs with lyrics. But at least, (looking at the bright side here), I can do projects and do some CAD as the same time as listening to lyric songs! 🥰🥰🥳
I think may people don't feel creative but I believe that we all are, we just have to find what gets our creativeness going. Whether that's drawing, coloring, painting, etc.
If I am trying to start a business where my job is to go to the client’s house, and help make the decision of what the layout of the room/house will be, but also helping to install things such as flooring/walls, kind of a Creative Director, do you know what that is called or what I would do to get that?
Not sure if you will see this, but I am a current junior in high school. I have been looking into interior design and have been educating myself about it, but I am a bit intimidated. If I have zero art skills or background, and can not draw to save my life is that ok? Also, if the school load really that bad? Will I be spending every night til 2 am working on school or will I have some free time? Just curious! It sounds like a great major but it also sounds crazy.
You will learn how to draw on your university course- but obviously it helps if you already do abit😅 Either get good at it or just be amazing on computer skills only- that is totally fine, so don't freak out. Look up frank gehry's drawings- one of the top starchitects and literally crap drawings (IMO😂😂). So don't worry too much about that aspect.
hey very inspring btww im going to select uni soon next year for my interior design bachelors now im acctually confused in smth if u would help me abt it so theres this digital design academy from de montfort university accerdited anyways its an online university course and idk wht to persue for online or physical and if online is the the course good enough??
Hi. I am really interested in doing bachelors in interior design as a degree in Europe and well I am quite confused on which institutions I should opt for, I have been researching myself but honestly didn’t find too much useful information about it…Soo I was wondering if you could help me on that.
I'm 15 going into college soon and I just want to say do you have to pick cad/computer science? Or can you pick anything similar like graphics? ( correct me if I'm wrong) thank you for this!!
honestly i am really scared, because i want to be an interior architect AND an interior designer however, i am in high school right now... and subject choices are coming up and i have no clue what to choose because there is not alot on this where i live... does anyone have any knowledge to help me..
Hi, thanks for the information. Are you a licensed interior architect? Also, there are universities that do teach interior architecture and design all at once as a subject. Is it okay to study interior architecture and design or interior design since i want to become an interior architect?
Not sure if you mean literal 🪙coin💸 or not lol, but in terms of which one is better, it solely depends on which job you go for after university. In terms of actual money I would say equal. Many people think architects make alot more than interior designers but that's a myth lol. Especially if you are designing high end luxury residential interiors. Also a degree can be completely pointless if you don't do anything with it so it all depends 😁
Im still a bit confused, im doing a BA in interior design, just started now. I didnt know about interior architecture and I can't find any info on degrees.. I'm doing it with KLC, how do I know if im also doing interior architecture? And if im not how do I get into it after?
Hi,from Nigeria I'm currently studying food science and technology but i would really love to get into interior designing...so i have heard of courses on it, like 3 or 4 months course and then i can become an interior designer. So what do you think, is it possible to learn all i need to know from the 3 months course
i'm going to be an interior design student next year... and i wonder, should i buy a laptop or a tablet? i already got a PC for my the "heavy duty" but i think i need a portable device :)
I have a question that I'm not sure you'll be able to answer but I'll ask anyway. I'm having trouble deciding whether I should study product or interior design at university. Do you think that if you study interior design in uni you can, in the future, go into a product design field and vice versa?
Hi there! Unfortunately no you won't be able to switch careers after your degree (Sorry!!!) The reason being, the courses are very different from one another and you will need to learn certain things on each, in order to do the job afterwards. Not like if you did an illustration degree and then went into graphic design (which would be fine).😊
@@dantierandbalogh Hey Jacqueline! I did Product Design in the UK and I'm currently doing my final bits of research into studying Interior Arch at masters level (in the UK and elsewhere). So far, I have actually come across universities that will accept an application from Product Design, or more specifically in case I am wrong, 'a closely related 3-dimensional design discipline'. Do you think that these courses may not reflect the same content as others? I'd really appreciate the help!
I wish I had the application to chase up a career in Architecture if I had the academic ability that’s the route I’d have chosen. I’ve always wondered what’s expected of you upon starting down that road. Thank you for this video, it’s given me a concept of an alternative path. Keep up the good work. 📐

I've always struggled choosing a career path, but for now, I think interior design/architecture is the thing for me. Also, I don't know if you'll answer this or not, but does interior design involve mathematics?

But I love the thought of this career so much but it seems like their is more cons than pros. Oher people seem to be having this exact problem too. But only worse they are already in college and going for the major. Im glad that I catched on to what I need to learn I’m gonna try to maybe take classes early on and start figuring out how I can make this work. Its the only job I want. I don’t want to settle for anything less and then regret it. 😞
WOAH CHILL! YOU are only 15!😅😅 you have time to get good and they teach you everything at university! You'll be just fine 🤍🙏😄
Are you still doing this?
I would like to do interior designing and I am 32 now...I am sound engineer but I have built quite a few things and have an interest in interior design
Go for it Neha! 🥰
Just found your channel... and really enjoyed your video! Thank you for that clear explanation and useful information. Look forward to watching more of your videos :)
Thank you so much 🤗🤗
📐 appreciate your tempo, fluid and informative.
Thank you for your insights! This has helped me have a further in-depth thought on interior design :D
No worries Jasmin🤗🤗
I was about to switch to architecture cause I thought I can get more opportunities, but I think I'll stick to interior Design, great video!
Thank you! And wish you best of luck🍀
📐
Congratulations! I wish you all the best with your studies & thank you for your lovely comment 🤗💖
Which school?
Hello what school is that I can also study the same there in Kenya?? Right now I'm studying architecture and want to study interior architecture
@@siimaandrea1743 do you also study Architectecture?
Im 14 and this is my dream job thanks for the heads up☺
You scared me… if the major is so stressful I won’t handle it I know myself. But I love interior design so much I don’t know if I should pick it or not. Also great video!
GO FOR IT! I know I was scary in this video😅 but honestly it's so good and you'll enjoy it. Follow your arrow💗
Ikr I hope I wasn't too harsh lol😂 Thanks so much for your comment, it made my day🤗🤗
Soo is interior architecture as hard as architecture?..someone tell me pls im having a problem with choosing a degree
omgggg this is so good i was looking for some videos like this and finally I found youu
Actually it is not illigal for you to design a building from scratch.. There's is no design stage which only chartered architect has power to do. The only thing which is protected by law is the title of Arctitect but not the job (suprisingly) . I am part II architectural assistant and I found out about that only now.. When starting the last stage of architectural education in RIBA part III book..
do they grade you based on your presentations? Because I have social anxiety and I'm always 1 second away from crying when having to do a presentation
Dw! At my university they judge the work not presentation (but having strong presenting skills helps when it comes to the real world and the job!)
I wouldn't worry because everyone hates it and starts at the same level! The more you do, the better you become🥰
Your accent is awesome and thanks for that information it helped a lot ❤️
Omg what?!🤣😅 Thank you🥺 And you are so welcome 🤗
The theme of interior design is so interesting! Maybe someone will tell me free courses, like a course from planner 5d. I really liked it
Oh my goodness it REALLY REALLY is difficult and expensive, it's not an exaggeration 😫😅
I'm in my 2nd year now and wow defs feeling the pressure 👀
Oh gosh Palesa! I wish you all the best with your studies! Keep pushing 💪🍀📖🖥️📐🖊️
Hi
i'd like to thank you for a very much useful tips u gave so i wanna to know how to start a solid steps to study interior design
thank you
You're welcome! Build up a creative portfolio (have a look at my portfolio video) and then you can apply to study interior design at university 😊🍀
someone who recommends schools where there is interior design in San Diego or in California
Thank u
Ohhh! Where was this beautiful video 10 years ago? :)
Oh thank you Maria! 🤍🙏🤗
It Is hard as fk, zero free time guarantee. I study in Italy and i Just finished the First year was harsh but i loved It
Best of luck Maria! 🙏🍀
I always thought interior design was pillows and paint. Recently I learned it's the opposite so now I'm so much more interested. My dad is in construction and growing up I enjoyed drawing floor plans so I guess I'm familiar with some things.
100% Tess! My dad was in construction too and I think subconsciously that's what led me to where I am today 🤗😁
Hi, as someone in the industry just wondering if you have heard of the National Design Academy? I’m looking at starting with the interior design diploma with them to see how I get on before commiting to the degree eventually, although not necessarily needed.
Hey there, have u gotten into nda uk ? I have been thinking about doing the same thing
Your hair is so pretty!
Thank you so much!💖
Yes... goldilocks. It's nice!
Thank you Deborah! I just put more highlights in hehe🤗😊
Thank you so much for this. 😁😁😁😁.
You said that exams have to be taken to become an interior architect in North America, and in the UK they don't. Would you happen to know about Australia? I've tried to inquire my school about it, but it's so hard to get adults to give straight answers to kids.
Ohhhhh I have no idea! I would assume that Australia is the same as UK (no exams just uni). Only America & Canada do exams as far as I've heard
Studying English and physics a-level right now means that I can't listen to songs with lyrics. But at least, (looking at the bright side here), I can do projects and do some CAD as the same time as listening to lyric songs! 🥰🥰🥳
my school needs to be good at drawing because we gotta take drawing exam too before got into it
Thank you 🙏🏼
Should I study interior design if I'm not a really creative person? I love it but I feel insecure about myself.
I think may people don't feel creative but I believe that we all are, we just have to find what gets our creativeness going. Whether that's drawing, coloring, painting, etc.
If I am trying to start a business where my job is to go to the client’s house, and help make the decision of what the layout of the room/house will be, but also helping to install things such as flooring/walls, kind of a Creative Director, do you know what that is called or what I would do to get that?
hello am an architectural student, and i want to study interior architecture in the U.K any tips on the schools i can appily for
Not sure if you will see this, but I am a current junior in high school.
So don't worry too much about that aspect.
how can i get online course
I will work hard on my studies to become a interior designer
Really enjoyed this, thanks 📐
You're welcome Nhyira💖🤗🤗
hey very inspring btww im going to select uni soon next year for my interior design bachelors now im acctually confused in smth if u would help me abt it so theres this digital design academy from de montfort university accerdited anyways its an online university course and idk wht to persue for online or physical and if online is the the course good enough??
Hi. I am really interested in doing bachelors in interior design as a degree in Europe and well I am quite confused on which institutions I should opt for, I have been researching myself but honestly didn’t find too much useful information about it…Soo I was wondering if you could help me on that.
Thank you for this video, is it possible someone can become interior designer without a degree?
If I am not good at creativity can I still be an interior designer ?
The whole point is to be creative haha
If you are not so creative as such, I would say look at structural engineering instead🤗Maybe more tailored to you🙏💖
Thank you for sharing
thanks i rlly appreciate the vid
I'm 15 going into college soon and I just want to say do you have to pick cad/computer science? Or can you pick anything similar like graphics? ( correct me if I'm wrong) thank you for this!!
Hi I'm not sure where you're based, but here in the UK we learn CAD on our university course. We don't pick classes- if that makes sense?😊
Hey, I was wondering what school you went to for interior architecture as I am really interested in that.
Yeah sure! I went to Falmouth University UK (the course is titled interior design, but you learn all 3 aspects and then specialise in final year)😊
Im so glad I found your channel. 😁😁😁💜💜💜💜.
Yayy! Glad to have you here joining us 💓💓
honestly i am really scared, because i want to be an interior architect AND an interior designer however, i am in high school right now... and subject choices are coming up and i have no clue what to choose because there is not alot on this where i live... does anyone have any knowledge to help me..
which country are you based in and then I might be able to help abit more :)
How important is cida ?
this was so helpful thank u so much
You're so welcome 🤗🤗
Where did you study interior architecture ?
Falmouth University
Hi, thanks for the information. Are you a licensed interior architect?
Also, there are universities that do teach interior architecture and design all at once as a subject. Is it okay to study interior architecture and design or interior design since i want to become an interior architect?
Which pays more having a masters degree in Architecture or a Masters degree in Interior Architecture?
So.. is there a difference between interior design and interior decorator?
I talk about that specifically in this video :
th-cam.com/video/72Iw5ZmANts/w-d-xo.html
Hope it helps 🤗🤗
Hi,from Nigeria
I'm currently studying food science and technology but i would really love to get into interior designing...so i have heard of courses on it, like 3 or 4 months course and then i can become an interior designer.
So what do you think, is it possible to learn all i need to know from the 3 months course
absolutely not!😂😅 Can you become a medical doctor in 3/4 months? absolutely not😂 It is the same principle here. Ignore those courses please!
@@dantierandbalogh will do, thanks
I learnt everything you said tnx
Thank you Muhammed! 😁
Hey hello I have question , what I need to study for apply the exam and do you know if this is a career or only course ?
Can interior designer could do MA in interior architect ?
Good universities to do MA in interior designing?
Hi! Am interested in studying interior design but am not good at drawing and art,,,so if i may ask is it necessary to have the skills?
Hi I talk about this exact thing in this video:
th-cam.com/video/4RcwCH_BBCI/w-d-xo.html
I hope it answers your question!😊🙏
📐Great video and great insight. I’ll be checking your other videos thank you 🙏 ☺️ 🤗
Thank you Andrew! 🤗🤗
i'm going to be an interior design student next year... and i wonder, should i buy a laptop or a tablet? i already got a PC for my the "heavy duty" but i think i need a portable device :)
Tbh I only used my iPad for research & netflix 👁️👄👁️ Oopsy
Hi,can you tell me the requirements to study interior design for international students
what subjects do i need for interior design or architecture in 11th and 12th grade?
I answer this question in sundays video! Stay tuned :)
I have a question that I'm not sure you'll be able to answer but I'll ask anyway.
I'm having trouble deciding whether I should study product or interior design at university. Do you think that if you study interior design in uni you can, in the future, go into a product design field and vice versa?
Hi there! Unfortunately no you won't be able to switch careers after your degree (Sorry!!!)
The reason being, the courses are very different from one another and you will need to learn certain things on each, in order to do the job afterwards.
Hi! so im planning on studying interior design! I would like to know if its easier to use a laptop or a tablet in uni?
Hi I debate this exact question in this video:
th-cam.com/video/kgBiR7xOuUs/w-d-xo.html
Hope it helps you! 🤗🤗
I wish I had the application to chase up a career in Architecture if I had the academic ability that’s the route I’d have chosen. I’ve always wondered what’s expected of you upon starting down that road. Thank you for this video, it’s given me a concept of an alternative path. Keep up the good work. 📐
I want to be a interior designer
I'm an Architecture student from Uk. I've just finished my first year and God it was hard indeed. I'll keep persuading this career but I have to admit I'm also very interested in Interior Architecture overall, let's see how it goes in the future.
Thanks for the video btw, subscribed (●'◡'●)
Thank you so much, it means everything to us! 😊🙏 Best of luck with your studies🤗🍀🍀

your video is very helpful for me. Do you know if your almamater offers online course for interior architecture, or do you have some school to recommend for me (online)? You difenitely open my mind. Im spending money for learning course by course but i dont know already if i have bright future with it. I realized i really school.
thank you!
Hi there! Sorry I know that my AM does not do it via online & honestly I'm not too sure about other online courses (sorry if I'm no help!). But I wish you the best for your studies 💗 Investing in education is always a smart move🙌
I have civil engineering bachelor degree ,can i pursue my masters in interior design?
You can sure try and see if they let you in on the course! I'm not 100% but you can always try😊
thank you so much
You're so welcome Aisha!☺️🙏
I've always struggled choosing a career path, but for now, I think interior design/architecture is the thing for me. Also, I don't know if you'll answer this or not, but does interior design involve mathematics?
I think so since you have to do measurement
I have many videos on this topic! 🤗
Basic mathematics, for converting measurements so nothing complicated
Can we do interior design ... If we are architecture student
Yes lots of architects move over to interiors (because they know it's where the real fun is at😉💃🍹)
So informative....what school did you attend?
Thank you 🤗 Falmouth university
📐Very helpful thank you!
You're welcome Diane😊💖

Whats the salary for an interior designer
it varies a lot!
What she said about it being hard she's telling the truth 😭😭 and you spend a lot for printing and all of that so yes it's pricy
I don't lie lol! I wish I was🤣🤣🤣
