The ending is genius exactly *because* you expect that scream - the tension builds, but now you need more Maiden! This title track is cool, but Hallowed Be Thy Name is the jam off of this album. Bassist Steve Harris is the leader of this band; he's a genius who has inspired millions of musicians, including me.
*Side Note: I was not a fan of this album when it was new, because I was a HUGE fan of the first two, and this one was a liiitle bit more 'commercial' sounding. I love it now, though - especially Gangland and Hallowed.

The bass player is the leader of the band since day 1. I think that's why the bass is huge in the mix on most of their songs. He's super talented.

Top 2 Metal albums of all time( who defined the genre )? 1) Iron Maiden-Number of The Beast 2) Judas Priest-Screaming For Vengeance Both released in 82 and in fact toured together on same bill. This is when Priest really broke big in the States, Of course many 60's and 70's bands gave birth and heavily influenced (Black Sabbath etc), though no one referred to them as metal at the time. In the States it was these two albums when the term was forever cemented into popular culture and became its own genre on a wide scale. At least in the States(Europe was ahead of the game). Neither get credit for it, and unlikely to ever see either band in the RocknRoll Hall of Fame. Both had a huge resurgence selling out Arena's(Maiden to this day).

At 16 years old me & my buddies saw Judas Priest & Iron Maiden @ Madison Square Garden. We snuck in our flasks of Black berry brandy & got prepared the craziest show we have ever seen. Iron Maiden & Judas Priest fans meshed well & went on a 3hr assault of MSG. The show was amazing. Fans were lighting banners on fire from the upper seats. During Priest’s show the crowds on the floor removed the seat cushions & were throwing them like frisbees up to the stage. 1980-1984 was the height of the hard rock/metal era as you also had AC/DC, old Van Halen, Sabbath w/Dio, The Scorpions & so many more to list releasing kick ass songs like these which stand the test of time. 🤘🔥🎸

Steve and Nicko do as good a job as anyone anchoring the bottom end and what I really love about Maiden (in addition to Harris's thundering, relentless,, blistering, galloping bass) is the guitar solo harmonies, not just the trading off like dueling banjos but soloing in harmony simultaneously. Not that other bands haven't done it. But nobody does it better than Murray and Smith. I might put Walsh and Felder up there with Hotel California.

Nikko McBrain has proven himself though - crazy character and unique drumming that pairs great with the songs Steve writes. His right foot is a thing of beauty - if you pay attention to some of his crazy double-bass drum licks, just remember that's only his right foot....single bass....playing barefoot as he likes to do......he's very gifted, and a down to earth cool guy who actually plays in his church band (not kidding).....

My very Southern Baptist Mom let me go to their concert when I was 15 or 16 (my friend thought Eddie was cool & their tunes, too.). I cannot remember the opening act, Twisted Sister or Quiet Riot. Mom was probably just glad I was in Lakeland for the evening. (You guys are in FL, or also from FL?) In the 80s, except for an outdoor sports arena, we always had to drive more than an hour from N ORL to get to the Lakeland arena (?).. General seating so lines, lines, lines! Hey, Journey's "Where Were You" is a hard-ish rocking, fast song from Journey you might like. I loved them since 8-tracks and always had all tapes/CDs from Infinity to Frontiers. They have a lot of good music but it's Journey, impressive stuff but no "bangers." I think you might enjoy this little gem from Departure, "Walks Like a Lady," is also good but kinda bluesy, I guess. I think this would be the 3rd album with Steve Perry on lead. They had 2 singers for Infinity, at least, maybe parts of Evolution. Great songs but they may seem too mellow. Some great vocals, of course. Reminds me of middle school to 18 when I traveled to PA & NJ with the harness race horses from Ben White Raceway. Lots of Journey, Boston & Elton (from my memory, there had to have been more though!) Pink Floyd had to be there, at least "Dark Side of the Moon!") Enjoy your weekend!

Interesting Iron Maiden trivia -- Bruce is featured in a documentary on the Spitfire and the Battle of Britain. He actually owns and flies a friggin' Spitfire, one of the coolest airplanes ever built! "Aces High" is a serious banger about the Battle of Britain. You'll seriously dig it!!

    Suggestion; Early metal poll( 80-83).
    1) Iron Maiden- The Flight of Icarus(83)
    2) Judas Priest- Electric Eye (82)
    3) Ozzy Ozbourne- I don't know(80)
    4) Dio- Rainbow in The Dark(83)
Approve? BTW chose I don't know because figured they've heard Crazy Train.

It's not really "bumper to bumper with "22 Acacia Avenue" since vinyl had 2 separate sides and "Number Of The Beast" was the 1st song on Side B.
    and...
It's not quite a poem at the beginning, it's two Bible verses.
    Revelation 12:12...
"Woe to you, oh earth and sea
For the Devil sends the beast with wrath
Because he knows the time is short...
    Revelation 13:18...

For it is a human number
Its number is six hundred and sixty-six...

The first solo is Dave Murray, and the second is Adrian Smith. When you listen to it again you'll pick up on the different guitar tones and styles.

The twin lead guitarists are Dave Murray and Adrain Smith, that's the reason for the double solo. Like another commenter mentioned, it's a case of two lead guitarists swapping leads, not one guy deciding to take a second solo.

    • @johnhughes3214
      @johnhughes3214 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This does sound like Vincent Price, but it is actually British actor Barry Clayton. They tried to get Price to do the recoding, but he wanted too much money: 25,000 pounds or about 35,000 US dollars. Price did record the much longer spoken passage for Michael Jackson's Thriller, also recorded in 1982, for only 20,000 dollars, passing on an option for a percentage of album sales instead.

Steve Harris (bassist) wrote the song based on a nightmare he’d had.
In Flight of Icarus, Bruce holds a note towards the end for about 15 seconds. Pretty amazing.
This is a supremely talented band with a very deep catalog. Powerslave, Aces High, Killers, Prowler, Phantom of the Opera, Public Enema Number One, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Clairvoyant, and Fear of the Dark are some of the highlights.
