One of my favorite memories in life was meeting Phil Lynott as a young writer in the Bay Areas in the early 80's. We went after a show at the Keystone Palo Alto to sit and talk somewhere private. In this case, it was under the north tower of the Golden Gate Bridge. There's a little lighthouse right at the base, where the bay funnels through at breakneck speed, while the foghorns call down though the mist from the towers way over your head. We sat back to back in the cold, drinking coffee with whiskey and he talked music for about 3 hours. He was a man who would have been a bard in the 13th century, a priest in the 10th, a highwayman somewhere in the mix. But he had the gift of breathing life into what he saw. What a legend. I wish he had lived to write more. He was a pied piper.

I always liked that line too from this song. 🎵 I don't consider this a hard banger - it's like easy listening rock to me. I really like the guy's voice and story style and all of it (esp the back and forth sound-balance in the speakers. YES, Andy...kareokee this one. 😎👍 Plus, my brother and his best friend really dug it back in the day & they were cool guys ...and...their major hangout was at a bar called Gino's (not Dino's as in the song tho). So, as usual - how you heard, when you heard it, who you were with or what you were doing, the weather, the scene, the mood...it all matters. It all contributes to the impact. 🌷
Cozy- comfy is the call of the day for Saturday, eh Alex? I don't want to miss this. 😊 Glad you did this one, cheers fellas! 2021.

The five of them would walk into the bar no matter who was tending bar they would put on this song, five bar stools would instantly clear he and his brothers would sit down. BUT, may I say you guys get a lot more out of it after just one listen then I ever did. They sort of just burned into my consciousness after hearing them forever and then sort of really listened to the lyrics. Not sure I would have gotten all this when I first heard these tunes. Man, the high school memories! Several of us were dating guys that traveled for construction and only made it home once a month or so. This song was blaring when they returned home for a weekend. It was perfect!

Since the first time I heard this song while stationed in Korea I've always connected this song with the first day of preseason training...baseball and football.

The album was a slight concept. 'Jailbreak' was about a future world run by an overlord (the overlord is on the cover in the background). Thus the song, "Jailbreak" was from the perspective of "our heroes" breaking away from that. Each song on the album has a little bit of the concept in the character singing to us, telling us a story. Free from the overlord, the boys come back to town... and all that. Remember, this was 1976, a year before 'Star Wars'. Oh, and seriously, check out any track from the live album, 'Live and Dangerous'. It's truly the bomb.

Good choice. It's been awhile since I heard this song, and Thin Lizzy. ONE OF THE MANY GREAT BANDS FROM MY GENERATION. How luck we were.
