@@DieHardFishing yep! He’ll spit out the bait and dive back in once he sees the gaff. But don’t make a hole! You may have to toss him back on your own!
I just use a jig with a 3 inch rectangle piece of squid double hook it, I jig it a good amount and it’s usually when reeling in when they strike and I also get lots of good rockfish, ( that’s what I mostly go for)
I love your channel. Have you considered carrying some lip grippers? They are nice for smaller fish and no risk of harm that the gaff presents. I have hauled in 10-15 lb lings with the lip grippers with no issues.
See you using a stringer to hold ur fish, which is fair enough in a kayak however some yrs ago I was fishing off the coast in a 16’ boat 🚤 & had a string bag of reef fish & mackerel. Been hanging there most of that morning. I stood up to walk around the boat, stretch the legs when I saw a big f’n “SUBMARINE” cruise along the side of the boat in the swell & had the realisation I was looking at a 15ft Tiger sizing up our fish 😳. Yelled out n mate dragged the bag back into the boat. I don’t know, but if he had got our bag that shark would have given us a good bloody shake up. 😳😳🎣🎣🦈🦈 I reckon try a short handled gaff for the kayak.
Was fishing stuff like this back in 2018. Funny when you keep something relatively quiet and then someone figures it out too. Those do look just like a baby black. 🤘🏻
I'd like to know how many kayaks do you have, because I've seen at least 4 different ones. Have you tried any of the Sea Eagle inflatables? My chose is there 14ft. Paddleski for its versatility it can be paddled, you can put an electric trolling motor, or if you want to motor faster you can put a 5hp gas on it.
I sliced some concrete 3/4 metal stakes into 4" pieces, 45 degree cuts and drill both ends and paint florescent green. Big hook with a chunk of bait on it, amazingly effective.
Lose those silly light wire bass hooks and put some big heavy saltwater hooks on em. Might even use siwash and a swivel dropper. Also, look at the Storm shad lures. VERY nice baits. Edit: If you aren't sure on size and don't want to gaff it, do NOT put it in the gill plate, gaff through the lower lip as gently as you can. You can also make a lip gaff with a large barbless hook. (10/0 at least)
I understand your use of the gaff, but... why not use a net to land the fish? I tried the gaff for shark and cobra and it just passed them off right before I dropped 'embetween my knees on the yak. Switched to cradle net strapped to side of yak. Easy to measure if release was necessary.
You need to explain the technique of dragging them up to the surface without setting the hook. Man, when I feel a fish on I cross its eyes with a hook set.
I agree, I live in Shell Beach , we have a lot of lingcod.. Anything that simulates a SQUID, specifically, something white and has that squid swimming action; catches lingcod by the dozens. I never used an old sock, but if you put slits in one end, like tentacles it would work.
Try a bucca bull Shad in the 6-8 in or bigger. (Others are better, but are too expensive for the salt) I know that they’re great for bass and they have a super tight and fast action. Also change your hooks and split rings out to owners , hyper wire split rings and any of the trebles are good
Good video mister Hard. My self I don't use Artificial never have never will . I use live herring only. Illegal in Wa state to use treble hooks & gaff & no barbs on the hook ether & the lingcod between 26" to 36" are keepers . check out I have one or two video's of lingcod.
I would try it deeper where the big ones are. Looking like you're fishing pretty shallow...maybe 30-40ft. Up north I kill much bigger ones this time of year deeper 80+ ft
Try to add a trailer hook to the live bait, just put a rubber band near the tail and put the trailer hooked through that so the live bait stays alive longer.
Ha! I realized I recently played poker with your buddy in the other kayak. Looked familiar at the poker table but didn’t realize he was a fisherman; he did have that Asian sunburn glow. And in your video he looked familiar and didn’t realize he was a poker player.
Have you ever considered using a left handed reel. I noticed that you put your rod under your right arm and reel with your right hand. Looks uncomfortable. I used to do that alot too. Then I switched to left handed reels. For me it's easy to use my right hand to hold the rod and reel with my left and I'm right handed
@@DieHardFishing try large plastic worms with a typical Texas rig, or any type that could of plastic lure that resembles a small squid, and lingcod will tear them up.
@Homeless Forstr I totally agree; they will attack and consume/eat anything within reach; even at times things larger than their mouths. If any advertising or selling gear helps paying Adam's bills I will never, ever complain about those who look for a better more successful fishing adventure.
Adam, a question or two: Every time you hook up and get the fish close I see you strip line?? Any special reason or just a habit? You use a Treb as the stinger yet I see you quite often don't get a good hook up? Have you ever figured out why?? Just wondering.
Ive bought every lure they make for lings & I mean every lure. You want to know what lure catches the most lings? Bait. Live or fresh dead bait period.
Have you ever tried Pro-Cure scents? They have a lot different scents. I wonder if one of them would entice those hitchhiking lingcod to slam the artificials.
Just an observation, you do know how to set a hook right, you seem to be trying to slow reel and fines the fish up so they don’t even know they are hooked. I understand J and O hooks and other types where you don’t need to have a massive yank to set the hook, but you don’t act at all, just start slow reeling in, can’t even see your rod bend you have zero pressure on the line. That’s why that one just let go of the bait and swam away, if you had set the hook, they don’t let go of that.

How are you getting it deep enough for ling at the bottom? Doesnt that bait run 5-10 ft or are you using a planer or something?
Just a question, do we have to have a landing net when fishing from a floating device on ocean?
Shh...it's only the law.
Stupid question....does hanging your catch off of the kayak ever attract sharks?
Seals mostly,But not a shark yet
😂😂😂
The funny ones are the young harbor seals. They look at you with those big eyes that seem to say, “You really gonna eat all of those fish?”
What type of battery do you use for the trolling motor?
Absolutely would like to see that lure get another go at it. It looks pretty fishy; will likely do well.
Fingers crossed!

What line test and rod length were you using? Thanks
You need to explain the technique of dragging them up to the surface without setting the hook. Man, when I feel a fish on I cross its eyes with a hook set.
You took me back to when I was 6 years old with that statement! I used to set the hook so hard, the fish would rocket out of the water!
Is it legal to use treble hook for rockfishing in CA? I always thought you can only use two single or one double hook!
You can use two hooks on your line for rock fish or ling cod……Each hook counts as one hook, if it is a single hook, double hook or treble hook.
Stick with that lure. I think you hookups will be better. Good job.
Anyone else hearing sound interference in the vid or is it just my set up ? But dope ling man !
No, I definitely heard it. A crackling sound.
I got a package of Wildeye Swim Shad by Storm and have been catching rockfish like crazy
Wildeye much better baits than these, IMHO.
isnt it illegal to use gamefish for bait?
Take this from someone that's caught over a thousand lingcod you can throw an old sock with a hook in it and catch them.

Why don't you put the hook in the tail of the bait like a big treble hook?
Do you use any specific rig when you troll? Or you just tie on the lure
Edit: nvm just saw you had a weight on it
Try to add a trailer hook to the live bait, just put a rubber band near the tail and put the trailer hooked through that so the live bait stays alive longer.

swap trebles out for circle hooks
