Thanks for sharing this very detailed. One thing i want say is, i have 2006 S430 and the oil filter wrench was 76mm not 74.5mm. Maybe that is for S500? In any case great guide and thanks for sharing. I did my oil change today and i was done in about 1 hour.
Good and interesting Video. But here in Germany you can change oil for 89 Euros fixprice totaly with Filter (MANN) at a countrywide garage in 20 minutes. you can rest in the car during the change and see the work via camera.
Guten Tag - That is about how much in Dollars it costs to change the oil and filter by Mercedes here in the U.S. as well ($100 to $125). Many who can afford these expensive Benzes brand new probably won't even look at this video. However, this is for home garage mechanics who either enjoy doing the work themselves or wish/need to save a few bucks. It costs almost half as much to do it yourself (Oil $50 + filter $8, taxes $3 = $61). Also keep in mind that many shops in the U.S. don't allow customers to watch...and there are many dishonest or incompetent mechanics who may use paper filters, cheaper oils, not even change filters or all of the oil, or not torque the plug... Regardless, thanks for the comment. You are fortunate to be able to watch the work. You do save time relative to a home mechanic, of course....although with practice it can be done in 30 minutes or so (not elapsed since it is best to let the oil drain as much as possible). To be thorough, there is also the slight timing consideration in driving to/fro a shop....
89$ by MB? That is awesome. Here in Germany you have to pay min. 250 Euros or so. MB has the highest rates for labor and they sell the oil for over 20-25 Euros per litre and even if you find an internet dealer and buy it yourself it costs 10 euros/l. Btw: a typical "Service A" is about 1000 Euros for W220, but only there isn't anything broken.
Thanks, L.S. - no, some will remain in the pan depending on the lift angle of the pan's front as you are thinking. Even if leveled, there will still remain some in various engine cavities. It is not so much to warrant the extra effort to raise the rear of the car though - especially if you stick to a 9k to 10k miles change regime. I just drive the front over ramps.
@@masood-tv Thank you for clearing that up. I have a very old jack that I no longer trust while I am under the car so I'm probably gonna get ramps like yours. They look much safer and seem to give sufficient clearance to work under the car. Thanks again!
Hi Ali - well, the short answer depends on whom you bought it from, whether or not it was taken care of by the previous owner and how many miles has it been driven already. If it is not a very high mileage car - and if it has been well maintained, the answer is yes. The M113 engines are some of the best Mercedes has ever made. The 722.6 and 722.9 transmissions last a long time with some maintenance. These cars are extremely reliable, easy and cheap to maintain for DIYers. They are also super fun and comfortable to drive as you already know :)
Most cars are "reliable" if taken care of. I guess it depends on your tolerance level of reliability. I've had only a few issues with mine, but it's never left me stranded. The more features, electronics, computers you have, the greater the chance of failure. Most W220s are reasonably reliable, but like any cars, there are certain known deficiencies. Google's your friend.
Those of us that are skilled at auto mechanics don't break the tops off the dipstick. Then blame the manufacturer for making it out of "Life Saver Candy".
Hi Larry, the dipstick handle in the video is broken. I didn't break it and am not blaming anyone. Thanks for the comment though. If I understand correctly, you are saying don't blame others for what you break. I totally agree!
Many plastics get super brittle from age and heat. I don't care who or how skilled you are, eventually it will break as the plastic virtually disintegrates.
I found mine was broken on the w220 I bought recently. The plastic level at the over end was showing signs of cracking too so I replaced the whole thing.
James, I see Amsoil 5W40 listed in MB's recommended oils; however, I have never used it. I mostly use Full Synthetic Mobil 1 0w40 which is very cheap at Walmarts in the U.S.A.
Stupid place for the drain plug. It should be at the rear of the pan so most of the oil drains if you're on front ramps or jacks only, like most DIYers use.
You're most welcome, Victor.

Thank you, ValezBiH, and thanks for the filter wrench size info.
Great video awesome quality
Thanks a lot.

Does all the oil drain ok with the car being higher in the front? Thanks for all your videos!

Nice video.
De nada. Thank you, Marcos.
I just bought a 2004 s430 do you think these cars are reliable if taken care of

ali warraich yes very
I have 2006 S430. Car has been very reliable for me. Never had any issues with respect to engine, transmission.
Yes.

Hello mate,u think I can use the pump to change the engine oil?
I don't see why not. I have never since these cars have drain plugs...
Thank you
how often do i need to change the oil
Do it every 10K to 15K miles.
Always use a fleece filter on these Mercedes 112 v6 and the 113 v8 the paper filters suck. Use Hengst fleece filters
I second Arthur's recommendation. Thank you, Arthur.
What’s so bad about the paper filters?
Hi Kwoods - doesn't last as long and deteriorates faster.
Masood oh that makes sense. Of course I just got done with installing a paper filter 😅
Thanks for the video btw. It’s the only one I found helpful on TH-cam
Сколько литров масла в системе ? Мобил 1 лучше оригинала ?
Hi, 8 liters if filter is changed also.
Full synthetic Mobile 1 0W40 is the best.
Fast forward to 9:54 minutes for further details please on refilling.
Спасибо !!!
Thank you.

I hate the continous fade out of images. It makes me have an headache
Sorry about that, I will take care making future videos to avoid those transitions.

Anyone using amsoil

@billbenzick1656 yup, that is good too.
What a terrible paint job that car has
Filthy engine bay too.
