Leather Holster for a Scoped Ruger MKIII -- Leather ASMR

- In this leather working video, I craft a holster for a scoped pistol. It's tricky navigating the the scope's mount and rings; and especially on the Ruger with its skinny barrel. But it turned out nice (It came out sort of looking like Han Solo's blaster.) The key was using Kydex inserts as a frame to keep the leather stiff.

He removes the magazine and then clears it three times. This is the way. It will not fail you.
Then he proceeds to make beautiful holster. Great job thanks. 👍
awesome. Thanks for watching!
Please make a video, or series, on mockups to laser file. I have watched every video you've published, some several times and am captivated by your design and execution skills. You, Sir, are a true master.
Thanks for subscribing! Will do.
Amazing work as usual! I would love to see a video on how to go from paper pattern to foam mock-up to laser file. Again, well done!
Thanks for watching! I'll definitely have to put together a video on it. It'll end up being more of a computer app tutorial. That's why I'm hesitant.
Seriously?? Freaking amazing. I've never seen leather scope covers. Absolutely awesome.
Thanks for subscribing! The funny thing is that those were totally an afterthought. Sort of like, "where else can I add some leather?"
A scoped sidearm is a challenge to find a holster, You sir are a craftsman in the truest sense of the word
Thanks for watching!
I'm amazed not only by the leatherwork, but also the visual artistry of the design!
Thanks!!
One could say: It´s not just time and experience. It´s CREATIVITY, PASSION, OBSESSION WITH DETAILS. and then... more experience. Thank you.
A series on mockups to laser files would be awesome...
Will do. Thanks for subscribing!
I have seen you make many beautiful holsters over the years, but I think this one is my favorite. The two tone design with the black and brown is just fantastic.
Thanks for watching!
OK...I have that same Ruger 75th and now I need that Scope and Holster....the DL44 vibes are strong with this one!
It does kinda look like Han's blaster. Wasn't intentional. . . just sorta ended up that way. Thanks for subscribing!
I for one would love to see a dedicated video of your process of going from rough pattern sketch to laser engraving file!!!
I have been contemplating of adding an engraver and seeing how you model things would be invaluable to me.
Thanks
I've used kydex on an alligator knife sheath, but never thought about using it that way. Really great work
Thanks for watching!
Am I the only one who thinks that pistol looks like a Star Wars blaster.
DL44...Han's sidearm of choice
Lol. I mentioned that in the video description. Thanks for subscribing!
The DESIGN is spot on!! The leather-work, intense! I lust for that holster! BUT... fodder purchase is priority right now! And, @71, I doubt ever owning one of these(my coin-jar ain't filling up as quick as it used to!!)
Ha. Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
Oh wow, that is gorgeous. I'd LOVE a laser cutter like that. I have to cut everything by hand and it takes me forever and a half to prototype stuff. This looks like it was easy for you. The mini sanding belt was an amazing idea. I'd love to see more on the laser and how you go about prototyping because that is the scariest part for me. I hate wasting leather. Fantastic holster!
Thanks for leaving a comment! Yes, the best thing about using a laser to cut your leather is precision and repeatability. That welt, while looking basic, it actually a complex piece that would be very difficult to do by hand.... though not impossible.
My favorite holster build yet! Freaking amazing!
Thanks!
Smart use of both modern and traditional technology. Well done.
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely, do a video on transferring patterns to laser files!! I have an xtool d1 pro and would love to figure that out.
Will do! Thanks for subbing!
Beautiful, once again! Both design and execution are wonderful to see.
Thank you so much 😀
amazing work, every project you do is just amazing, You videos have taught me many of your techniques and methods of leather craft.
And hope that through practice I will be able to craft to your level of quality.
Awesome! Thank you very much ... and thanks for subscribing!
“I need a holster for this scoped Ruger MK III.” I may not have tried very hard to find a holster for my original Ruger Mark I, but I remember options being fairly limited. I’m only chuckling because it’s not just the scope that creates a need for a custom rig for that pistol. It’s been a long time since I tried, so options may be better now. Beautiful work as always.
Awesome. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Beautiful Work, Very Inovative. I like your use of Kydex as a side support of the opening for the scope. The color combination is spot on. Thank you for sharing.👍😎
Thank you very much! And thanks for subscribing!
As always, an excellent holster you have made! I watched it two times so far. Thinking outside the box on this one! 👍
Thanks for watching (twice!)
You are a master of your craft! 👍 Simply incredible!
Thank you very much!
Nice job on the holster as always! Yes, please on the video showing how to get your sketch into the Lazar file. I’m especially interested in the stitching hole spacing.
Ok. I'm already in the process of planning a video out.
Very nice design. I love the relatively minimal approach the tooling. In the end, the pistol, scope and holster look like they all sprung from the mind of the same designer.
Thanks for watching!
That is a sharp looking holster. Awesome idea to use Kydex to add rigidity around the scope inlet. My friend has a ruger 22/45 and can’t find a holster for it. This gives me some ideas on how to make a holster for him. - I love of look of the cordovan against the brown. It has a rich look.
Awesome! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I love your work and ALWAYS come back for inspiration and to learn. I’m interested in the laser engraver for work, but........ I truly feel it takes the “handmade” look away from your projects. I respect the process. Repeatability, accuracy and detail are huge. And, this is the future. So I’ll just shut up and continue to be inspired and learn from you.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I do have to conceptualize, draw sketches, and create patterns. It's still a lot of work; just not with a knife cutting shapes out of the leather.
The "Han Solo." Amazing work!
Thanks for watching!
Great work as usual. Love this design. As a leatherworker and a newbie laser owner I would love to see a video about converting patterns to laser files.
Thanks. I'll put a video together. I was hesitant because it would be (by necessity) a computer app tutorial.
Your getting pretty good with that lazor cutter. I like that idea better than a clicker in today's world. The clicker is expensive and the dies are worse. And they only go with 1 project.
Exactly. I've been contacted a couple of times asking if I wanted to review a small, desktop-style clicker press. I'd be interested (it would actually be useful in a few, limited instances). But I don't have any dies . . . except for the basic shape die sets that pop up in my videos from time to time. Lasers allow you to create templates and modify them immediately. No wait time, no cost, no need to store dies and keep them sharpened. They're really the clicker-press killer.
Yet another awesome video.
You're a freaking genius, Road Agent. And by the way, you have the most toys, so you win. 😂😂
Thank you so much 😁
Very sharp!! I especially like the scope covers.
Thanks a lot!
Heck yea i would love a video on making the laser files
Damn nice I believe that would also work on a shoulder holster as well very relaxing to watch you work .
Thanks for watching!
A true functional work of Art!!!
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful! Nice scope rings also!
Thank you!
The first time I saw you use the laser cutter, I said "That is so CHEATING! I want one!!!!"
ha. Thanks for watching!
Awesome holster and this video was edited perfectly. I found it easy to follow all the steps you were taking. I got a laser not too long ago, and i'd be interested on how you import and scale your templates correctly in lightburn. Thanks for the great content!
Thanks for subscribing! I'll definitely move a video on the subject up on my "production schedule".
And now I need a custom belt and suspenders to complete the rig. Beautiful work.
Thanks for watching!
I'd love to see how you make your laser files!
on it!
Fantastic!
Many thanks!
That’s so cool !!!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice work Sir!!
I made a molded kydex/leather pocket holster for an XD. The leather back piece was cut to the same shape as my pockets. This keeps the gun centered in the pocket and the leather doesn’t wear out the pocket. That leather wasn’t stiff enough to retain the pistol so I molded a piece of kydex into a curve and glued it between the existing back leather and another piece the same shape. Now the holster will retain the loaded pistol when held upside down yet it doesn’t hamper the draw.
Good thinking! Do you have pictures?
@@RoadAgentLeather yes I can I’ll try to figure out how to send
Super nice!

Amazing...
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful work always enjoy your videos. Maybe you can do a video on your shop. I would love to see your set. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Ha. I've thought about a "behind the scenes" video. You may be disappointed . . . I'm in a 2-car garage in the middle of suburbia.
You know that even makes it more interesting, because most of the leather community has their little corner work space somewhere in there house. That's what makes you great. We need to see where beautiful work comes from. We don't need a super shop. Thank you for replying. Can't wait for the next video.
Yes, please show us how you convert your patterns to Lightburn files. Thank you for what you do, sir.
Will do. And thanks for subscribing!
Beautiful job.....

Nice!
Yes please
Thanks for watching!
Yes please make that video.
will do!
Yes, please do a video on how to make laser files. I want to use my laser engraver to its max potential.
The verdict is in. Seems like most people are on board with it.
Can you buy any of these from you or where Beautiful work Thank You
Just another fine project as always. My I ask where you get the buckle and keeper
Thanks! They can be purchased from Tandy Leather.
Another amazing holster design! You continue to impress me with your work!
BTW, what kind of scope is on that pistol?
Thanks for subscribing! It's a cheap, off-brand optic I picked up at one of the shows years ago. I can't remember the name that was on the box. Planned on it being a placeholder until I got a nicer one . . . but always have other things to spend money on than a scope for my .22.
@@RoadAgentLeather alrighty. Just wondering as I'm looking for one for my Rossi Brawler
WOW!
Sweet! Thanks for watching!
How did you convert your drawing into a laser cut file? I seriously would love to learn how you did that. I have an Atomstack S10 Pro, diode.
Thanks for watching and subscribing! Will have to put a video together.
Neat, you don’t often see holsters for scoped pistols. Is it standard operating procedure in Road Agent HQ for when a pistol enters the premises it gets a holster made for it? 👍👌
lol. Kinda? I'm always looking for projects to make fresh content for my viewers.
Brilliant as always. My God, the aesthetic….For the trigger guard welt you wetted the leather stack prior to gluing. What benefits are you achieving from that step?
Thanks! I always hydrate the leather a little before gluing. Allows the glue to penetrate more. It also gives me a little more time to position before it starts to set.
@@RoadAgentLeather Excellent, I'll give it a shot at the next opportunity. I'd also never considered using Tokonole to get the flesh side to lay down in that manner. I'll try that too.
Hi, I was wondering what tool you used to stamp that pattern? It looks great!
There's a seller on eBay (they may be on Etsy as well) from Bulgaria that makes the most amazing custom leather stamps. Their seller name is "Tuning Star". Takes a while for shipping, but well worth it.
Thanks man I appreciate it! This holster looks awesome. I’m going to be making one for my Mk IV soon but without a scope lol.
Yes, absolutely would like to know the technique to take the drawing to laser.
I'll get on it! Thanks for watching!
Do you sell the pattern, I have a MK11 as well and have been looking for holster for it.
You make some fantastic leather pieces!
Thank you very much!
