    Hard to believe that I just watched you put fins over barnacles. Expected more from you. Glad it worked with a dirty bottom and barnacles.

    • @Clarks-Adventure
      @Clarks-Adventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Shearing action on the fins cleaned the barnacles off very well. Just their footprint left.
      Better than a scraper. Besides I didn't have a scraper with me.

    As a boat owner just a quick look at all that growth on the O.B leg (suspect that the bottom of the dingy would need attention too) just a couple of hours with a high-pressure hose, brush and scraper to removing that and give improved performance.

    When you install one of these, the correct trim becomes more important. We have a single piece style with a more aggressive shape on a 15Hp Mercury and it makes a world of difference. Your friend might want to consider raising his motor after it's cleaned to combat the excessive growth. Thanks for the upload.

    I got the same tail for my 16' V Alumicraft w/ 25hp Johnson 2 Stroke. It'll do 32mph now, the hole shot is super fast & most importantly that front end lays down & I can control the boat much better.
    Before I could get 2 hours loaded down on 6gal of fuel, I'm getting almost 3hrs now. Boy she flies now! They claim 30% more fuel & better stability & I believe it.
    I ran one on my new 18' Years ago & it made a huge difference also. Every boat I get, I install that Tail

    I run a 12 fiberglass hull w/15hp merc 4 stroke... weight is everything more so the placement... If a ran a extension handle on my tiller it fixed my planning issue. And ran 29mph gps. Then I ordered these exact fins, and yes it jumps on a plane but I lost 3 mph!. Personally I'd rather move my seat 6" forward than loose 3mph. But I am the guy that chases every pony and mph

    Nice add on.. Just fitted a different design on my mariner 6hp. Only thing I want to say is that you can improve the performance. Move the fins till they line up the start of prop. That is the correct position. They will sit farther out the back but that will give yet more leverage to keep the front down.

    • @boatsandoutboards9070
      @boatsandoutboards9070 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the 6hp and 2 people onboard, did the fins make any difference in planing speed?

    Lower prop pitch helps your hole shot gets on plane faster. May try four blade prop. Will reduce speed a bit but also helps achieve faster plane and also keeps on plane at slower speeds. The fun will cause more drag and reduce overall speed.

    • @Clarks-Adventure
      @Clarks-Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've done both. You are mostly right. Fin doesn't seem to cause more noticable "net" drag on boats that need it. Makes handling better and is cheaper then a lower pitched prop.

    • @MiQBohlin
      @MiQBohlin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had some serious festoons of kelp around a 9.9 Yamaha some weeks ago. Didn’t cut of even on high revs, neither on reverse… Had to lift an reach by hand all the way back in gale force and low tide. I like these fins and probably going to bring a pair, but there are moments where you can get entangled I’m sure. Not a big deal in tropical waters, but in higher latitudes you have to think through every situation that might appear.

    • @Clarks-Adventure
      @Clarks-Adventure  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah that sounds like a time when it would at least be harder to clear the prop with one installed. I sailed out of kelp when I left the waters of California. That stuff can be strong!
      If your boat doesn't need this help there would be no reason to install one. When I used boats I built and designed myself I didn't use one. No need as the hull solved this issue with it's form.
