He took mediocre cars that had no business winning and almost won the championship with them. It's no wonder that F1 team bosses named him 'Driver of the Year for 2012' (and 2010) despite Vettel winning the title. Alonso is just that rare mix of intelligence, aggression, confidence, charisma, and talent. His post-F1 career showed that he could switch racing formats seamlessly. He was stunning at LeMans, Daytona (it was like seeing a master at work in terrible rain despite the fact that it was only his second race at Daytona) and he even tried out rally coming in at 13th overall in the grueling Dakar Rally. This man deserved 3, 4, 5 titles to his name. Two just doesn't do his talent justice. So welcome back, Fernando and here's hoping Alpine delivers a car worthy of your talent.
One of the best F1 drivers to ever do it. Love him or hate him, you cannot deny the fact Alonso could extract the most out of any car he drove & his raw pace was simply sublime to watch. I seriously hope Renault can give him a car to compete with the likes of Mercedes & RBR next season.

As everyone has already said, his 2012 season was the best performance I had seen of any driver (regardless if he won the championship or not). Alonso never put a foot wrong all season long.
They won't. He should have never left Ferrari and they should never replaced him with Vettel.
Here after he got P3 at Bahrain, well deserved ❤️

As a Schumacher fanboy that engine failure with 17 laps to go while leading still hurts to this day for me. Such a shame.

This is the reason I started watching F1. Nothing could make me happier than the third world title for Fernando Alonso. Renault/Alpine, please, I beg you, prepare everything wonderfully for 2022. You don't even need to give it the best car, just being two or three tenths below the best car, Fernando's magic will serve to win the championship as he has shown throughout his career. ❤️ Our dreams are valid.
I think I might make a video with Alonso in it
Dew it
Some people grew up with Prost, Senna, Mansell, Schumacher, etc... I grew up with Alonso (mad respect to all drivers of course). So happy to see him back. It's like I'm still a kid watching him race.
A really really beautifull review. Well done. Really emotional!!! Nice music by the way!!
2012.. the single greatest performance of all time by an F1 driver.
true....forever
A career of fine margins sees Fernando Alonso as the 11th greatest Formula 1 driver of all time and easily in the Hall of Fame.
In terms of skill Alonso is the best driver of all time. If only he had a better car at Ferrari and Mclaren. For me, not only my favourite driver ever but also the best. Cant wait to see him next year. Really hope he gets 3 podiums so he can reach the 100 podiums mark.
No he isn't. He was beaten by Trulli and Hamilton.
He actually got lucky in 2005, he's NOWHERE NEAR the best.

Come back dear Alonso. You are a fierce driver who can extract unimaginable things even from a worst car on the grid, which Lewis Hamilton or any other drivers on the current grid can't do.
