I have the paperwhite 2014, not sure if it's the same paperwhite 2 as is shown here. The main reason why I got the kindle was to save money on books, which is why I haven't purchased any from amazon for it. For me, the kindle cost 10,000 (in India) and good non-fiction books cost an average of 500, plus some books are insanely hard to find, and even if you do, it'll be the imported version costing twice or thrice as much. Buying the kindle took me two months of saving money, but looking back at all the books I've read on it, I think I've covered its cost already.
WORD OF ADVICE, GOODEREADER: Always put the biggest, best product on the right when comparing. I kept getting super confused & didn't hear much of what you said at all. Think AT&T bars. When you read a book (American), you flip to the right to progress. Right = forward, progression, bigger, better. Left = back, past, old, younger, smaller, etc.. I guess this OCD comment just shows how much it was a distraction. I know it's simple, but little things like that could be a game changer for some viewers, LIKE MYSELF.. Maybe it's just me.
Thanks for the review. I do agree about upgrading: I have the Paperwhite and while I think the Voyage is nice, I don't think it's worth $200 when I already have something that works almost as well.
What's pretty interesting is that at different moments of the video the screen clarity kind of fluctuate at some point a particular text looks sharper on the voyage and at the next moment vice versa. I'm curious whether this is due to the camera focus or this something that occurs in real use.
Love the review, Thanks. I broke my basic kindle e-ink (with button) which is now discontinued. So I bought a new basic touch. I was very disappointed with the much worse case quality and the worse cheaper feeling when grabbing the new one compared to the previous e-ink. So I am deciding to upgrade to a Voyage not to be disappointed at all.. the casing seems so much better then the PW2
Love my Kindle Keyboard. In fact, I hate fingerprints and can find word DEFINITIONS using the bottom buttons without having to constantly clean the screen. I would love an alternative with more buttons though at least we have the new page turning buttons. I wonder if the brightness control and page turning will develop PROBLEMS over time though. New hardware features always seems to cause issues...
imo my eyes have more trouble seeing the voyage screen than the paperwhite. I plan on buying a paperwhite 2 very soon and despite all the cool things of a voyage the paperwhite seems better. The words seem easier to read and the pictures are clearer. Plus with the voyage the back sort of shifts out where with the paperwhite its flat making it for me easier to hold. But these 2 are definitely the best of the kindles.
Was torn between these two but decided to buy the PW2 since it's on sale for $99. I did compare them side by side at Best Buy and did find the Voyage screen a bit better and sharper but noticed a two tone color with the screen fully lit which was a disappointment. I just don't think it's worth twice the price of the PW2 honestly. Maybe if it had superior software. I agree with the sensor comment in the video, for $199 with ads give me a 6.8" screen, with an audio jack and expandable SD slot with both Mobi and Epub compatibility and i'll buy it hands down, hell I think they would dominate the world with those specs. E-ink will get cheaper to produce, I mean look at LCD technology, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 nook is only $129 and look at everything you get with that device. I have a feeling Amazon will really take it to another level with their next offering. The Voyage is nice no doubt, and I have no problem spending the money but I just can't justify spending it on something that's marginally better.
Is it worth upgrading from the Paperwhite 1 to the Voyage (or even 2)? My issue is that its hard to see illustrations, maps etc. in books and I wonder if the extra resolution would help. Btw I agree with you that audiobook integration is the most needed feature. I still believe the Kindle Keyboard was the best! Not least because the display sat at the right height when resting it on your chest on bed. The later gens are too low!
facethefaceandmore44 i would say its not necessary. the voyage honestly doesnt give you that much more than the paperwhite does. i say wait for a price reduction
Ordered a Paperwhite 2 a few days back and really hope it was the right decision. I like the new features of the Voyage, but spending €189 vs. the €99 for the PW2 was just too much of a difference. Glad I can send it back within a month due to a special offer so if I don't like it I can still trade it in for a Voyage.
Lu Tu I'm totally happy with the PW2. Good screen, amazing battery life and turning pages by using the touch screen is far less distracting than I thought. Especially now that Amazon basically sells the PW2 for €79, I see no way the Voyage can justify the premium over the already great Paperwhite 2.
What I have found on my new Voyage is that when pulling my old purchases from the cloud (I bought on the Kindle generation 3) the table of contents on my books is not readily available. The swipe bar at the bottom is not as accurate with things like Bibles, and difficult to navigate. One more thing I was wondering is, is there a way to turn off the wireless, or does that happen automatically when you exit the Kindle store? Thanks for the video!
I definitely want to buy one of these ereaders, but I can't choose. I don't want to have an outdated device, yet i want to get more for my money. Which do you think I should buy?
I plan to buy a Voyage. I read mostly financial literature. In financial books are many formulas, graphics and tables. I'm using Calibre to transform PDF files into e-book format for my Kindle Touch. The result : the graphics and tables are so small ( probably pictures ) that I can't read them. Will exists this problem also when I buy a Voyage?
HI There - I notice you did not cover browsing on either of these 2 devices - is browsing possible? I am looking to be able to access an online course - with the materials being available online and I wonder if either of the 2 models are better at doing this. Is this possible on both WIFi and 3G?
I was wondering if it was possible to gain viruses on these devices , would some type of antivirus be necessary since it allows for wifi connection? TIA
Help Guys! I don't see Kindle Paperwhite 2 listed when I type it in on Amazon. They don't list 1 anymore? The one that comes up has an option for wifi and free 3G this knocks the price from sale price $99 up to $189? What's the main difference between choosing one over the other? Is their a difference in color on bottom or top corners of Voyager compared to Paperwhite2? Thanks, Rich.
Great review! I have the paperwhite kindle but as it got updated I can't no longer choose different fonts nor the line spacing or the margins. The option just doesn't show up, and before it got updated it did. Any suggestions how to change that? Thanks!
I think I'll wait for the Voyage 2. My PW2 is good enough for now. By then Amazon should resolve any issues with discolored frontlights, which some folks have complained about with the Voyage.
Hi, I was just wondering how both the Voyage and the Paperwhite are in terms of strength, if it drops or something? I heard you guys mention that it is plastic. Will they crack easily and a case is necessary? Or it won't be too big of a deal if I don't get a case? Thanks!
I had the Voyage on Pre Order but recently Staples had the Paperwhite 2 4GB model on sale for $89.99. I couldn't pass up the sale so I bought the Paperwhite 2 instead and canceled the pre order for the Voyage. So glad that I did because I am enjoying my new Paperwhite 2. Plus it didn't have the Special Offers so that's a added $20.00 savings. The price is usually $139.99 without the Special Offers. I don't know if Staples made some sort of mistake when selling these units or what lol. And I had a Kindle 3(Keyboard) previously. So I still think upgrading to the Paperwhite 2 is worth it rather then the Voyage. There really isn't a lot of improvements other then the pressure page turn buttons.
Marcin Kozyra It was a in store only sale. And it was 2 weeks ago. They'll probably have another sale soon around the holidays and to get rid of the stock for the new Kindles. Keep an eye on the local ads on the site.
Thank you Goodereader for this great comparison I got conflicted. I like the Paperwhite side by side the Voyager for reading text. Why? Because on your text, the Paperwhite had an extra line of text. That means for me I can read faster. So for me, it is a great review on the difference between the devices. The Paperwhite 2 starts at 119 $ and the Voyager at 199 $. Personally, I would need a more hands-on the pick out if I would buy the Paperwhite or the Voyager. Right now, I am leaning for the Paperwhite 2. :-)
I think it had an extra line of text because the white space at the beginning of the chapter was less on the PW2. It looks like both would show the same amount of text per page at the same font and size.
Unless, the Voyage 2 brings back the audio function, I think most PW2 owners are better off sticking to their devices next year as well, LOL! The Voyage 1 seems totally avoidable an upgrade for what it offers over and above the PW2. Seems like the classic case with Kindle Touch. Most KT owners stuck to it, cos the following iterations seemed more like a downgrade with the audio functions omitted. The PW2 seems to be in the similar position today. Its a bargain at its current price. Paying $90 extra for almost the same thing makes no sense.
And who else thinks the back of Voyage looks confused, overdone? The top part with Piano finish is a fingerprint magnet, and looks totally out of place from the rest of the back surface. Doesnt serve any purpose either. I know its a subjective view, but the plain, understated soft touch back of Kindle PW just seems so nice to touch. I often find myself absentmindedly running my fingers over the soft touch surface while reading, and it feels good! xD
***** Mate, my comment was targeted towards the PW2 owners only. I dont think I said anything to make the Voyage look like a bad product ('cept for my subjective view on the back aesthetics.). Just that its not a worthwhile upgrade for a PW2 owner. But if this is your first Kindle then by all means enjoy it. :) You've started with the top of the line Kindle currently, so your experience will surely be amazing. But for PW2 owner, it'll just be an incremental upgrade, so not worth the $90 premium. Thats all I meant to say. Welcome to the Kindle family. :)
I don't like the power button being on the back of the unit. It limits the selection of cases you can buy for it. That's a deal breaker. Otherwise everything else is better.
Goodereader or free im from Costa Rica and i contact kindle support and i said im from outside USA offers doesnt apply to my contry, and they remove for free :)

Goodereader With Calibre its not so bad, I keep everything in epub for my ipad, and mobi for the Kindle. I use the epubs on my iPad as I like the iPad reader better than the Kindle app.
Rosangela Sena You have to use the Send to Kindle email adress. You find this address by logging into your Amazon Account management page on your PC web browser.
I did. My Kindle Paperwhite works fine, but this one does not, and I did not get the notify email that amazon sends to us everytime we send something on the wrong way =Z
you will not be able to highlight PDF's text only when this was made as images rather than text proper. If you can highlight the text on AdobeReader then you will also on Kindle.
Goodereader Just now I was told from Amazon.com itself that Arabic is in the list of languages for both 1- setting the devise in Arabic 2- Reading Arabic books in it Good luck, I love Muslims
youtube likes to play an un-skippable advert in channels like yours. Hate to wait and see that cr..p. Turning the sound off didn't help. Sorry mate, had to close the window and skip the review.

yes sir!
Like the Voyage, once the price drops, I will be buying it!
***** yea i imagine a lot of people are waiting for it to creep below 200$
So just use the swipe instead. 😄
Thanks for the review. I do agree about upgrading: I have the Paperwhite and while I think the Voyage is nice, I don't think it's worth $200 when I already have something that works almost as well.
Logan West yea i think too much production costs went to the vibration features and extra touch panels on the bezel. unnecessary
Goodereader I dont have a kindle yet. would you suggest me to beuy the pw 2 or the voyage? by the way I am a pupil and dont have that much money.
What's pretty interesting is that at different moments of the video the screen clarity kind of fluctuate at some point a particular text looks sharper on the voyage and at the next moment vice versa. I'm curious whether this is due to the camera focus or this something that occurs in real use.

I just bought the newest gen of paperwhite... Love it.
thats great to hear!

mdunawaym you can just turn off wireless from the settings menu. THAT, or you can turn it onto AIRPLANE MODE :D
So turning off the wireless also turns off the 3g? Thanks.
mdunawaym yes, if you have the 3G model
Thanks. :)
Hi, which one is better for pdf files with picture and everything? I want to get one for the first tine but not sure kindle is the right choice
Thanks
I definitely want to buy one of these ereaders, but I can't choose. I don't want to have an outdated device, yet i want to get more for my money. Which do you think I should buy?
Brandon Amor i think if you dont want to go outdated... the voyage is the way to go
but its expensive remember
I plan to buy a Voyage. I read mostly financial literature. In financial books are many formulas, graphics and tables. I'm using Calibre to transform PDF files into e-book format for my Kindle Touch. The result : the graphics and tables are so small ( probably pictures ) that I can't read them. Will exists this problem also when I buy a Voyage?
Ivajlo Naumov yes a small screen is a small screen.
if you are using this for graphics and pictures, a bigger screen is better

Anca McMahon browsing is great on both.
just stay away from videos and you should be all good
yes, wifi and 3G
I was wondering if it was possible to gain viruses on these devices , would some type of antivirus be necessary since it allows for wifi connection? TIA
Claudia Hill there isnt really anything to corrput.
there have been literally no reports of viruses on ereaders
Help Guys! I don't see Kindle Paperwhite 2 listed when I type it in on Amazon. They don't list 1 anymore? chilled.out i would contact amazon directly for info regarding firmware update features
:)
I think I'll wait for the Voyage 2. My PW2 is good enough for now. By then Amazon should resolve any issues with discolored frontlights, which some folks have complained about with the Voyage.
MajorSeventh good call Major. if you dont need all those bells and whistles, maybe skip this one :)
Why does the voyage shows less word per page then the pw2?
it depends on the size of the font and the font style
Hi, I was just wondering how both the Voyage and the Paperwhite are in terms of strength, if it drops or something? I heard you guys mention that it is plastic. Will they crack easily and a case is necessary? Or it won't be too big of a deal if I don't get a case? Thanks!
Namdol Takza we did a drop test on the paperwhite, check it out
we have yet to do one on the voyage, we love it too much lol
LOL! Ok I'll check that one out right now. Thanks :)
Good review! Can you make short video how experimental browser work's on Voyage?
Andrey Kapustin sounds good andrey, we'll get right on that !
I had the Voyage on Pre Order but recently Staples had the Paperwhite 2 4GB model on sale for $89.99. i find xray feature to be a spoiler some times.. any way we can turn them off?
sram145 lol, dont click on it, like ever.
Lol... I just try to use them only when its hard to remember the character though.. Anyway, its just a little trade off ☺
If I am just buying a kindle don't have either kindle which one do you suggest paperwhite or voyage?
It´ll be my first e-reader. Which one should I buyt?
Richard Kiefer check out this video and weigh the options! :)
3:48 Honestly I struggle to see the difference in resolution when watching this fullscreen at 1080p on my laptop!

should i have Kindle? is it better than using the i pad ??
because i use i pad but actually i don't really like it when it comes to the reading :)
Rawan Nasser its up to you
ereaders are better for your eyes
Thank you :) yes i can see the i pad make my eyes feel terrible

Caayotee Yea, I have no idea whats with the black thing, I want it in uniform color.
I doubt audio is making a comeback though...

dont like the light when im reading, looks like im using my galaxy note 2.
For me basic kindle touch for 79$ is the best choice.
Toranaga San good choice !
Goodereader With PW2 can I put collections in the cloud? Which is the faster of the 2?
question how does two do with reading manga and comics?
Michael Samuel Belmonte they do very well.
you can think of the PDF experience as same as the manga experience
I don't like the power button being on the back of the unit. It limits the selection of cases you can buy for it. That's a deal breaker. Otherwise everything else is better.
lostn65 yea people have mixed feelings!
Yes thats its only flaw, and its relatively big, cause its otherwise the most perfect reading device so far.
Does any of the kindle products damage the eyes of a human being the way a normal computer do? Or does it not release any radiation?
abdulziz faaruk or does it release any radiation to begin with*
abdulziz faaruk everything has radiation lol
no, it doesnt release very much, minimal
ah ok thanks :)
can you write note on pdf?
M. A. Kader Rasel yes you can !
You don't have to use the new buttons, and just swipe like the Paper white version
***** exactly !
hey i am from barçelona and i just bought from germany amazon.de kindle pw2. and i want to know how im gonna turn off the special offers from amazon.
Barselona CATALUNA you can email amazon to remove them for a fee
Goodereader or free im from Costa Rica and i contact kindle support and i said im from outside USA offers doesnt apply to my contry, and they remove for free :)
Max Abello Briceño ook, thanks for sharing useful info!
I don't see how an additional ambient light sensor is an improvement over the previous generation.
BalanceHUN it isnt really. shouldve put audio instead of these bells and whistles no one wants
Im in the midst of returning my voyage. It was my first e-reader & I found it to have HORRIBLE performance. The auto-brightness didn't really adjust the brightness when it was dark & kind of counter-intuitive, not to mention it freezing up on me several times in the 3 days that I've had it. Now the size & graphics on it are nice & the dictionary & definition bring up is pretty cool seeing that Ive never used an e-reader before but the performance IS NOT up to par on a tablet. its got a higher price, but Im going with an iPad mini.
bajess thanks so much for weighing in Bajess!
Why didn't they add audio? That's the only thing the paperwhite is missing!
what about battery life?
Santrell Wood the voyage? same as all ereaders, really. Like 2 months ish
Goodereader Thanks. But is that with heavy nightly use or in "Standby Mode"?
Santrell Wood they average it out lol!
everyones is different
thanks for the review, it was really enlightening.
Hi guys! I'm planning to buy the paperwhite 2 and I have one question before really going to buy it. I have many books in EPUB format and I know kindle doesn't support EPUB. But I know I can use calibre to convert EPUB to mobi. But does it work every time? I mean the paragraphing, creating content and everything. I once converted one format to another and read it on my tablet and two chapters combine together ( at the end of one chapter starts another chapter without spacing it to another page) I hope you understand what I mean...
Will this kind of error appear in kindle paperwhite 2?
Thank you so much, your comment is really important!
peter19220 you CAN convert. but its easier to just get a kobo Aura
Goodereader With Calibre its not so bad, I keep everything in epub for my ipad, and mobi for the Kindle. I use the epubs on my iPad as I like the iPad reader better than the Kindle app.
Tak Wolf I wouldn't read on iPad when I have an ereader...
peter19220 I agree, the only reading I do on the iPad is color PDFs.
I tried to send some ebooks to my K.V and it didn't work. I used my email. has anything like this ever happened to you?
Rosangela Sena You have to use the Send to Kindle email adress. You find this address by logging into your Amazon Account management page on your PC web browser.
I did. My Kindle Paperwhite works fine, but this one does not, and I did not get the notify email that amazon sends to us everytime we send something on the wrong way =Z
why not colors?
Is it worth upgrading from the Paperwhite 1, though?
Yes, I think it is.
is voyage worth buying ?
george john its up to you, thats why we do these videos so you can make the decision yourself
I have made up my mind... I am not going to buy voyage.
you will not be able to highlight PDF's text only when this was made as images rather than text proper. If you can highlight the text on AdobeReader then you will also on Kindle.
AlwaysSmilingSK correct
Can i translate any word to Arabic?
Sad Flute i dont believe arabic is on the list
Goodereader Just now I was told from Amazon.com itself that Arabic is in the list of languages for both
1- setting the devise in Arabic
2- Reading Arabic books in it
Good luck, I love Muslims
Does anyone of these have color?
+Lord Tube (Arburger) Yeah I have a kindle paperwhite. It's awesome. Bought a cover on walmart. Com is awesome. Have 5 books on there so far
I like the voyage better
Niko Albertson awesome choice!
Or side loading e-books!
Tak Wolf yea yea !
