    If you have one, a miter saw with a fine tooth blade does a great job cutting the permatrack. A lot quicker and easier, with a cleaner and straighter cut.

      That sounds like it would have worked great! Thanks for the tip!

    Wish I seen these before I did my own. I ran just some basic waterproof strip lights which works great but it's more plain and boring compared to this. I'll for sure install this on a new house build whenever that is.

    great video! In the process of testing out an ESP32 wiring up some lights. Hopefully it doesnt snow too bad before I get them up! I'm in Ontario.

    So I wanna do my roof line. But then I want to do around my windows can I split the data off of the main line at each window. Or do I need to run separate sets of wire for each window? That’s what’s confusing me.

    • @AnotherNerdyCanuck
      @AnotherNerdyCanuck  ปีที่แล้ว

      The data wire must run sequencially and can't be split in a "wye". You could run the datawire to the windows and then back up to the main line to carry on. You would have to set the windows up as segments. Not sure how well this would work, depending on the effects you plan to run?
      Sorry I can't be more help!

      Yes! The quad is installed! Just super busy at work and trying to find time to get the video up. Hopefully before Friday! 😁👍

    Love your set up and want to do the same around my garage. The only issue I have is our home owners association will allow permanent lights on the soffits but not anywhere else. Are the permatrack easy to remove after the season or do you recommend a better solution for that?

    • @AnotherNerdyCanuck
      @AnotherNerdyCanuck  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They would be relatively easy to remove. However it might be even easier if you were to mount them on something the full length of each garage door side?

    Would love to know what WLED effect/setting you're using at 15:15 and 16:00 in your video. If you have any presets to share, that would be great.

    0.16$/kWh - we can only dream of that in europe. It's currently about 0.60$/kWh in Germany. ô.Ô

      Yes, and I have some! If I wasn't upgrading to a Dig-Quad, I would replace the wire nuts! Thanks for the suggestion!

    Sounds like your fuse is too large. What gauge wiring are the lights?

    • @AnotherNerdyCanuck
      @AnotherNerdyCanuck  ปีที่แล้ว

      The lights have a fairly small wire (I'm guessing 18 or 20 AWG). However, the fuse is the total current through the board so this is shared among 5 wires. No single wire carries more than about 4 amps.

    • @MichaelStephenLau
      @MichaelStephenLau ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnotherNerdyCanuck The PSU has internal fusing to protect the line from PSU to the controller. The controller has its own limitations which is why it's noted not to exceed a certain fuse size (10A for 1oz copper and 15A for 2oz copper), but the fuse used is to protect what's downstream of it from burning up. You expect no more than 4A per wire, so maybe use a 5A fuse to ensure a short doesn't burn up your 18-20 AWG wire first.

    • @AnotherNerdyCanuck
      @AnotherNerdyCanuck  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. That is why I am upgrading the controller to a Dig Quad. It has 5 separate 5A fuses right on the controller. I will be swapping it shortly (it just arrived) and will post a video of the upgrade soon.
      Thanks for your comments!

    • @MichaelStephenLau
      @MichaelStephenLau ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnotherNerdyCanuck No problem! I'm just concerned that you may have a hazard on your hands until resolved.
      For your setup, max power through one uno combines amperage beyond its rated max. Reducing the fuse to 15A will protect the uno better, but you still have one major issue remaining. Splitting after the uno still doesn't protect the 18-20 AWG wire that will burn up before the fuse does, if ever shorted. Your distribution of power (~4A each) should be done via a fuse block (like on a quad), so that the wires of each section are protected. You'd also have to consider wire gauging to account for expected max current at different points of your system.
      Until your quad is put in, you may want to drop your fuse down to account for your smallest wire and software limit brightness to avoid failures/fire.

    • @AnotherNerdyCanuck
      @AnotherNerdyCanuck  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate your concern!!
      I only had the 25A fuse in for testing, and immediately replaced it with a 15A, so the board is protected.
      Dig Quad install will be tonight or tomorrow! Thanks, again!
