If you haven't worked it out already, a good security camera out the front together with Frigate in home assistant is able to track how many people are present at any one time. It does person/dog/cat/car etc etc etc. A google coral TPU is good if you have more than one camera, but a raspberry pi 4 can handle 1 camera.
You could also put a wifi/bluetooth sensor in the front yard that detects peoples phones, most people have a device on them that emits a MAC address, home assistant will plot it all too.
Finally, if you want your raspberry pis to run better, put them in a case with cooling. The Flirc ones are great becasue they are silent!!!

Great setup! One suggestion: maybe look into some of the video over IP standards (Dante AV, NDI, etc)? That way you can have a beefy computer in the house run the video+audio instead of being constrained by the RasPi, and feed it over the network line you already have run out there

So, here's my logic...I plan on switching from an AC light show to a mapping show for two reasons, one, I'll no longer need to be hanging lights from Sept 15th to Thanksgiving night and secondly, at some point, I'm going to fall out of a tree or off a ladder. I too bought the Optima1080 but it is just not bright enough even with the 4,000 lumens. So, I appreciate you speaking about your 8,000-lumen projector. I'll stick around and check out your playlists. Thanks again!

Could probably use 2 small laser diodes on the front corners of your roof pointing towards some sensors inside the projector box to let you know if its aligned or not. You could even use that data to tell the projector to move the image left/right automatically using the broadlink IR remote control you have in there. HAOS is more than capable of that.

Don’t let his efforts scare you. This is WAY overkill for a typical house projection. He has taken every step and gone next level with it.
I’m not saying this as a bad thing. I WISH I had this much time and money to sink into my projections. Just saying it can be done with significantly less time, effort, and money. It won’t be as good as this but trust me, it will look good and people will love it.

Show looks GREAT! Just adding some thoughts. For this year, Have you considered upgrading to the new Raspberry Pi 5 ? for the video portion at least? Also I would recommend adding a heatsink and fan on those raspberry Pis. It will keep them much cooler and may even improve your performance of the pi 4s. Tried posting links to the Pi 5 and the Pi 5 Active cooler, but I assume links must be disabled. you can find both with a quick google for raspberry PI 5

For Viewer Tracking why not set up a WiFi Hotspot, once the user connects to the hotspot it then loads a captive portal site that they can use to pick a show and trigger the show to start. You can project the WiFi and captive info on the roof. Maybe even just a QR code they could scan on their phone to do all of this

How does the projection mapping work when you want a section to be dark, or you just don't want to project on to a certain part of the house? For example, I noticed that you had your path lit up, but the grass either side was dark. There wasn't an obvious "black screen" being projected onto the grass, it's as if there was no light at all hitting that.. How do you manage that?
I've always assumed that you need to confine the edges of the projection to parts of the house that you do want to receive light, because there isn't a great way to block light entirely..

    • @BreakItYourself
      @BreakItYourself  ปีที่แล้ว

If you watch the full projection show video, you can see what video file is going to the projector. Essentially, anywhere I don't want a projection is just black. Some projectors will still light that area a little but generally, when contrasted with what you want to project it's not noticeable. th-cam.com/video/-4etb6nnQ_A/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=BreakItYourself

I found a software called Facade Signage that is quite intuitive and easy to use. It’s about $40 a month but it literally takes minutes to trace the house. From that point you can load the image of video files your u created or downloaded for free right onto the house. It’s not for people who want to create their own animations. It’s for people who don’t have that kind of time but still want to projection map.
I also use a 8k lumen projector because I live in a NYC suburb. Too much ambient light. My problem is the front of my property slips down and I have a ton of bushes. So it’s really not the best house.

If it wasn't for having to do all that work on a box for the projector i would have done this by now.

This is great! Thank you for this behind the scenes look! I would like to do some basic projection mapping on my house. I've already got a projector setup pointed at my door with it's own box and everything, but I don't know how to get started mapping out the different elements. How do you suggest I go about that? My show is primarily a light show running with xLights, but with projection mapped elements.

I think you should look for tutorials on DiVinci resolve. I use after effects and found this tutorial to be the best:

What resolution did you end up going with? I am looking at using FPP so I can sync pixels with my mapping, but not sure if I want to give up the 4k resolution. I have only tested FPP with 1080p and 4k (definitely a no go). Also what codec are you doing your video files? Thanks

H265, and I'm getting 3418x1802. LOL, I tried at least 50 exports last year, trying different settings, and that's what works for me. However, I discovered this year during Halloween that if I keep the RP4 directly in the path of the incoming cool air from the house, I can get even higher resolution, haha, but due to time, I haven't tried going higher for Christmas. So next year I'll either try higher or attempt to get my hands on an RP5

Why do you need gas strutts when you have Branch?

haha right? Unfortunately, I was up on the ladder, and my head was on the other side of the branch, so the branch didn't save me.
