Superb 👍. All we need now is a box that can take multiple hdmi 2.1 VRR supported inputs and 1 out to screen that we can read input from, so lights can be controlled for all connected devices.
A Hyperion ambulance setup can do multiple inputs and works with Netflix and streaming services Etc. It requires a few extra parts and a few extra steps but it looks awesome when you're done. I use mine on regular broadcast tv, streaming services, with my playstation, my computer, and my retropie emulator box.

OMG!!! That is amazing. Thank you for highlighting this product. My mind is already racing with ideas that I can use Signal RGB with. I'm not sure how you do it, but you keep providing great content on every video. Thank you!!
Signal RGB is great! Been using it for sometime to control the RGB on my son's and I setups. Works great to sync the Leds strips controlled by WLED in his room to his gaming computer.
Chris, I have a few questions before I pull the trigger on this. 1. What did you use to power the lights around the projector? Assuming the standard 5amp isn't enough 2. Would I be allowed to plug my projector to my receiver and have the output be the PC? 3. This will not work with the Nvidia shield pro correct? 4. separate project, Does WLED support 150ft of LEDS? I want this around my garage corners, What would you do to power that much if so? your videos definitely earned you a subscribe!
This is on my list to do when I move overseas. Going to be fun watching movies and throwing parties with these LEDS in this setup. Truly cool stuff! With this kind of customizability, I bet this would work really well for quick and dirty EDM show setups and last minute raves.
Awesome video Chris! Is there a way to use this without a PC and have it run through a receiver to use with video games/ movies through streaming devices?
I made the same screen backlight for only $25, and the kit includes both the ribbon and the receiver for the computer. It's funny what he's offering you!
This is amazing! I absolutely love this and can't wait for my wife to allow me to start a project. What's the music you used in the final results? I do hope they come with a solution that let's you use the bottom end of the floor to ceiling lights.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Ohh you can definitely use the entire length of the floor to Ceiling lights but I chose to turn them off as to focus just on the lights that would line up with the screen. Hope that makes sense!
Looks amazing but might be a good idea to turn down the brightness of the LEDs to match the projector. As is, the LEDs are completely overpowering the screen rather than complementing it.
This is not going to be for that (although I think PS5 has some type of way you can virtually run your PS5 on your PC, in that case it would probably work. With this method you're connecting your pc to the tv or projector via one of the two methods described in the video and running your media off the pc. But now that SignalRGB has built the tool, I dont see why at some point they wouldn't be able to make this available via a smart tv app, ps5 app, androidtv, appletv, amazonfire, roku, etc. Its only a matter of time before someone figures it out!
You would need a video output from your TV, which isn't very common since most people don’t use their TV as a source for video output. As a result, there probably aren’t any solution for it. But who knows?
@JamaaLKellbass useless, cause the hue box doesn't have tv cable entrance. In my country we don't need cable boxes, we use the coaxial cable directly into the tv.. I think the only solution is the Govee sync lights... but thx
I'm looking for something to run like that too but also with my desktop gaming setup so far i found for what you're looking for govee tv backlight is probs your best choice and it's not crazy expensive like phillips hue
If you're thinking of getting it working with content directly from the TV you'll need an external video capture source. Something like a webcam trained on the TV as input for the software. Would still need a PC tho. There are off the shelf solutions but no where near as customiseable
a micro pc could be perfect for your setup. They have some really incredible palm sized pc's for $300 or so dollars. It would be very easy to hide, mixed with a wireless keyboard track pad combo. You would have the perfect setup without the need for wireless HDMI or a pc/laptop being such an eye sore. Thank you for all the incredible videos you make Chris!!!
I groaned when you said SignalLED because I've have so much trouble with it- but really the trouble I've had is not SignalLEDs fault, its manufacturers that don't follow their own standards very well, and make hardware that doesn't work right when SignalLED tries to talk to it. I think the secret to using SignalLED is to find online proof of any hardware actually working before you buy it. :O
Thanks for watching! Have you tried the WLED integration?! Nice thing is since its using WLED to talk to the lights, its not dependent on any specific hardware. There are so many companies that make addressable leds and I could use any of them and they should all work the same as long as they are running wled!
I am a big fan of your videos! I have watched, each and every video. Keep going mate! Love the setup but I feel that it's a bit too accurate which sometimes cancels out the immersion.
Thanks so much for the support buddy! Distance will be your friend. Having the lights further away from the wall will help blend the lights if this type of style is a little too jumpy.
Chris, you're a legend man! I honestly can't thank you enough! I've been meaning to build one of those fancy setups using one of the products sold solely for that kind of setup however I reverted back from doing so considering spend priorities and necessities and whatnot, however this gives me exactly what I'd like to have completely for free except with the limitation of devices to have the setup run on being a pc software rather than hardware that can be connected to other HDMI devices like a gaming console. I'm still very happy to have that setup for pc only and am quite surprised if I'm being honest to have such precise configuration and accurate results with just software! I thought it's possible but didn't expect it to be available that soon yet alone for free! Thanks so much, Chris. You really are one of my top go-to guys when it comes to ambient lighting and décor ❤ Keep up the great work! 👏👏
I had not heard of Signal supprisingly i love your projetcts Chris keep up the good work and your a great reference for WLED Thanks for the info as Always my Friend Have A great Day !
This is soooo cool! Super excited to try this out on my computer setup. But is there a way to get this to work with WLED lights that are surrounding my smart TV? Any way to have a tv input signal into signalrgb?
Thanks so much for watching! Not that i'm aware of. The only downside is that at least in my understanding, the signal does have to come from the pc. I wonder if loading signal rgb to something like this amzn.to/4b1iwQW and using that as your streaming device would work? But I also dont see why at some point signalrgb wouldn't be able to make this available via androidtv, appletv, amazonfire, roku, etc via an app which would then be able to work like you are wanting it to!
@@ChrisMaherDIY yea I think something like that would work but then you’re completely losing out on smart tv and integrations with other smart home stuff (Google home and home assistant). It’s an option. Definitely better if SignalRGB makes an app for smart TVs tho… Even if you then have to use a laptop or a desktop to set it up.
I'll put it on the video to do list. Its actually really neat. I don't think any hardcore gamers would be happy with it, but I've streamed content from my pc downstairs to a projector upstairs and both picture and sound were amazing. My wife and kids couldn't even tell the movie was not being streamed from the Nvidia shield like normally.
@@ChrisMaherDIY I look forward to this video too as I'm a bit confused about this. My content, whether it's TV or android box, gets sent through an AVR and then to the projector.
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. This is not going to be an option if you're wanting to use your built in tv apps. (Govee Camera System is your only option in that case: amzn.to/3UL76ez ) With this method you're connecting your pc to the tv or projector via one of the two methods described in the video and running your media off the pc. But now that SignalRGB has built the tool, I dont see why at some point they wouldn't be able to make this available via a smart tv app, androidtv, appletv, amazonfire, roku, etc.
This looks so cool! I bought everything and just as I'm setting it up, I realize that Signal RGB software is HEAVY on my laptop which is no slouch but still gets hot and fans are working hard and noisy... And I havent even configured my LED's to it yet.
Amazing project and video, I was not looking forward to paying for a Philips hue ambilight system. I had no idea there was there was such robust hobbyist solutions like this. Gonna start planning my next PC desktop build!
Chris outstanding work! I found myself doing the same around the apartment. Let's just say my friends think it's amazing! Love your work. Thanks for the New application to play with!
This is by far the best video I have seen on this platform!!!!. I still have a question, though: The TV and LED strip need to be on the same network, of course, but how does the LED strip controller know when the TV is turned on? Is there a way to link them, or does this have to be done manually? Thank you very much!
i think the lights being attached to the wall around the screen makes it a bit worse as it ends up having hotspots on the wall instead of a gradient, or maybe its just more noticeable on camera. A little tweaking with the reactivity settings will do wonders
Thanks for watching! I debated with moving the alr screen out from the wall a couple inches to put the lights behind, but doing it the way I did allowed for the accuracy to really be shown during the mapping process which I really wanted to make known. Its definitely a unique look that I imagine some people will like and some wont but I will want to at some point try the more traditional behind the tv option as well!
Man, this was so informative and motivating I accidentally unliked trying to like it twice! What a fantastic resource, and that’s how I see this - far more deserving of the title resource! More than mere content - fantastic stuff, thank you!
oooooooo Chris this is SO AWESOME!!! and it works with Hue too! thank you, thank you, thank you for making this video! this IS my next lighting project!
Very clean install, that looks like a pro job and the result is awesome. Question: is it possible to slow down the rate at which the LEDs change color? In some cases, it looks like a slow change in an image with a lot of contrasting colors results in rapid “twinkling” of the LEDs and I imagine it’s rather distracting when watching some actual content.
I actually had to exclaim out loud how that is A m a z i n g😮 ( I loved that I could tell from your voice that you felt the same excitement 😅 ) awesome channel one of my new favorite finds
So why does the baseboard LEDs have more LEDs per foot? Would there be an issue if I used those on the back of my TV? Also, is SignalRGB able to be controlled from my phone once it's setup on my HTPC? Thanks and thank you for this great video.
Make a deeper dive 💪🏽 also a govee sync would be cool maybe sync the ceiling lights. The ceiling ones look epic when playing a dark lightening storm on the screen.
Dude this is awesome!!! I wish YT would quit changing my subscription stuff. I got this notification 5 days late. Anyways.... thank you for all you do. You have saved me a lot of headaches!!!
My dude! This is kind of amazing. It's like "How do I get lights to react to my projector?! Govee cameras?! NOPE!" Super smart "Why didn't I think of this for screen mirror" I want to do this with my dj streaming somehow
This is amazing! Does the final setup always need hooked up to a computer? And then does media always need to be streamed through the computer for the program to map the LEDs?
Brother...stellar as always! I hope you realize what this means for your gaming setup as well. SignalRGB Pro allows for game integrations as you to play certain games...annnnnd since your desk and everything is WLED as well? You are truly an inspiration my friend.
Thanks so much! Yes 100% I debated doing this video focused on my gaming setup or the projector/tv rout. I ended up going the projector/tv but want to at some point do a follow up with my gaming space!
SignalRGB is the best program ever created... I swear. I love being able to sync my entire setup’s RGB all together. The best part is that they have compatibility for Govee, Phillips, and many other brands so you can sync up your entire room or simply create your own projects. I made my PC ambilight with an esp32 and some LEDS behind my monitor, and it works like a charm in SignalRGB. Oh, don’t forget their Audio Visualizers… it converts your entire room into a light show with the sound coming from your PC’s audio too lol.
Thanks for this awesome video. I'm really close to doing this myself but I'm confused about how the controller receives the hdmi input. Are you using hdmi to connect the PC that is running SignalRGB and your projector?
Hi Chris, this is for pc setup. It’s looks awesome, but what if I watch tv from my server and have no hdmi signal? I guess it’s not easy to make ambilight in my case?
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. This is not going to be an option if you're wanting to use your built in tv apps. @@ChrisMaherDIY Thanks for responding. I'm currently using the SK6812s with HyperHDR on my LG TV and was wondering if this would be better. It looks really cool, hopefully it can be used at some point like Hyperion/HyperHDR. 😀
@@ChrisMaherDIYDoes it work with Netflix / Prime / DisntPlus? Because if so there is some black magic going on and if it is not working, it never will. Those streaming services use DRM like WideVine to prevent any software from grabbing the pixels of the Application and HDCP to prevent grabbing the pixels from the HDMI cable
Hey man. Great setup. I recently converted to WLED for my TV backlight after watching this video. I was using ambibox with USB connection before. It works great but the only issue is I now notice a slight delay in color matching. It's only noticeable when a light or dark scene quick switches to a a dark or light scene respectively. I assume it's wifi delay. Did you experience this at all?
Your setup is absolutely amazing and the program seems a great solution but it sadly wouldn't work for me because I use an AV-receiver between pc, console, iptv box and media player. I guess i have to make a new version with HyperHDR
I personally use ambibox with serial output for my PC on an ultrawide monitor and it works perfectly with very little latency There is also the udp option but my router makes the latency horrible
Thanks so much!! Hope you've been good. Love your videos! I don't think it has native support but you could very easily create segments for all the strips, position them where you would like and create your own matrix like that!
Great video! And SignalRGB looks insanely powerful. With that being said, at the end there were some scenes where it looked like it was interpreting black levels wrong and producing a blue colour, whereas in other scenes it seemed just fine. I also think it would have looked better without the two far side pieces, it breaks the illusion on the screen too much. Fine for general ambient lighting, but for watching TV/movies, I'd turn those off.
Thanks for watching! Definitely a lot more I could have gone into. The standard mode I mentioned was my second favorite allowed you to essentially tweak black levels so the scenes that to the eye appear dark but actually have a slight color can be interpreted as black therefore having the lights go off instead of displaying the color that the eye may not pick up on. You can also adjust the saturation to have the colors more exaggerated or more dull in the standard mode. And the great thing about this is you can literally design the entire setup and customize it to what you think looks best and your taste.

Love this video. I can't wait to add this to my home. I have a question though. How did you send the signal from the projector to the WLED app?
I was wondering the same and how I could achieve this with built-in apps on the tv like netflix
THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!! You're the absolute man sir!
Okay, this is amazing. I can see why you are so excited about this. Wow! Thanks for being a blessing to us.
Thanks so much!! Glad you liked the video. Your too kind!
Signal RGB is great! Been using it for sometime to control the RGB on my son's and I setups. Works great to sync the Leds strips controlled by WLED in his room to his gaming computer.
You make this look easy! As I'm already a SignalRGB user, I might have to try some custom lights now.
Chris, I have a few questions before I pull the trigger on this.
1. What did you use to power the lights around the projector? Assuming the standard 5amp isn't enough
This is soo awesome. What is the best solution if you want it to follow your appleTV signal?
my dude. all of this... wow. subbed. thank you, this has inspired me beyond measure!
Same!
i can't wait to try this in my new home
Wow Chris, this is amazing! I think this is your most impressive project yet. Spectacular
Thanks so much!! Definitely one of my favorite ones!
Awesome video Chris! Is there a way to use this without a PC and have it run through a receiver to use with video games/ movies through streaming devices?
I second that question.
I think you need a raspberry pi and hyperion along with a capture card to do this without a pc
@@whistlerbike7785wot about a mini pc?
Govie makes one
I made the same screen backlight for only $25, and the kit includes both the ribbon and the receiver for the computer. It's funny what he's offering you!
Hi Chris, how are you?
I hope you are all well.
This looks like the best to date by far for this application.
Take care 🙏
This is amazing! I absolutely love this and can't wait for my wife to allow me to start a project.
What's the music you used in the final results?
I do hope they come with a solution that let's you use the bottom end of the floor to ceiling lights.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Ohh you can definitely use the entire length of the floor to Ceiling lights but I chose to turn them off as to focus just on the lights that would line up with the screen. Hope that makes sense!
i love the aesthetics you create
Thanks so much for watching!! Appreciate the support!
Looks amazing but might be a good idea to turn down the brightness of the LEDs to match the projector. As is, the LEDs are completely overpowering the screen rather than complementing it.
Very cool. I'm tempted to try it.
Does this work well with the PS5, VRR, and 120Hz? From what I understand Lytmi doesn't.
I'm totally mind-blown right now, this is a game-changer. Thank you.
This is the most insane setup I've ever seen. Incredible man!
thats awesome, after watching this video i will totally do somethink like that after seeing the easy setup. Love your content.
Thanks buddy! Its so much fun to set up and play around with! Thanks for the comment!
Love it
You would need a video output from your TV, which isn't very common since most people don’t use their TV as a source for video output. As a result, there probably aren’t any solution for it. But who knows?
you must use hue hdmi sync box then
@JamaaLKellbass useless, cause the hue box doesn't have tv cable entrance.
Chris, well done. Any alternatives to signal RGB if I didn't want to run through my PC?
If you're thinking of getting it working with content directly from the TV you'll need an external video capture source. Something like a webcam trained on the TV as input for the software. Would still need a PC tho. There are off the shelf solutions but no where near as customiseable
@@dylanevans5644 that's the answer I needed. Thanks
This seems worth doing.
I have hyperion and it works. This looks better, way better. I think Hyperion has black bar detection where this does not.
a micro pc could be perfect for your setup.
Wow this is amazingly incredible! Goosebumps. I'm starting a list of things i need for this!
Great stuff Chris! Every time I see a video like this I just start getting ideas - keep it up!
Appreciate it! Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching buddy!
Nice! Will give it a try. I use HyperHDR today and its sick!
another new tool to explore. Thank you for sharing! Always love seeing what you create next!
Thanks so much buddy!! Glad you liked the video! Its a fun hobby for sure :)
Oh man I want to see how this integrates with Govee now! I wonder if there is a way to make my Govee more accurate and use more lights.
I love giant TVs/ projectors in tiny spaces, it's such a vibe.
Followed this and made built the same setup in my media room. It feels awesome. Thanks Chris
This is epic!!! I'm curious about the total cost of this project please.
How would you set this up if you wanted to use it with an NVidia shield or PS5? SignalRGB only works for PC outputs, right?
I would love to see a full video on the wireless HDMI transmitter, awesome content keep it up :)
Is there a way all this can be done on a smart tv or a smart set-top box and won't require a PC. If there is pls make a video for it. Love your videos
But now that SignalRGB has built the tool, I dont see why at some point they wouldn't be able to make this available via a smart tv app, androidtv, appletv, amazonfire, roku, etc.
this changes everything! Thumbs up for working with govee!
Awesome!! Excited to try it.
Where can i get the calibration picture/ Wallpaper?
Thx
Looks veeeery nice, I'd keep watching random effects for whole day instead of movies XD
This looks so cool! I bought everything and just as I'm setting it up, I realize that Signal RGB software is HEAVY on my laptop which is no slouch but still gets hot and fans are working hard and noisy... And I havent even configured my LED's to it yet.
Great video, excellent detail. Now I'm obsessed with figuring out a way to make this work with my floor-rising screen.
Amazing project and video, I was not looking forward to paying for a Philips hue ambilight system. I had no idea there was there was such robust hobbyist solutions like this. Gonna start planning my next PC desktop build!
Bruh, definitely your the best rgb guy, love ya hermano
Thanks so much for the support buddy! Appreciate it!
Chris outstanding work! I found myself doing the same around the apartment. Let's just say my friends think it's amazing! Love your work. Thanks for the
New application to play with!
curious if you've tried acrylic welding the baseboards to remove the seam?
Amazing work! Great tutorial, tks for taking the time to do this
Man, this was so informative and motivating I accidentally unliked trying to like it twice!
One of the best videos I've seen on TH-cam and trust me, I watch a lot of TH-cam!
Didn't know this channel before. Instant sub. Very high quality and cool stuff! Thank you very much and have a good day!
Thanks so much buddy! Appreciate the support!
Dude this is awesome!!!
I wish YT would quit changing my subscription stuff. I got this notification 5 days late. Anyways.... thank you for all you do. You have saved me a lot of headaches!!!
That final results music is beautiful... the lights are pretty awesome too ;)
🤯. This is epic for a PC set up. I’ve been looking into a Hyperion/WLED set up for my TV but can’t quite pull the trigger.
Finally an easy way to set this up!
Excellent visuals!
This is dope. What would be really sweet is if there were a way to integrate DMX type fixtures for automatic party lights
My dude! This is kind of amazing. It's like "How do I get lights to react to my projector?! Govee cameras?! NOPE!" Super smart "Why didn't I think of this for screen mirror"
I want to do this with my dj streaming somehow
This is amazing! Does the final setup always need hooked up to a computer? And then does media always need to be streamed through the computer for the program to map the LEDs?
This beats every brand out there amazing
Thank you for sharing this awesome techniques and tools, I just want to know how to get smoother and lag free performance from wled?
I'm buckled in. MY BODY IS READY CHRIS.
Wow that is amazing, this is my favourite led set up yet. I so need to learn how to do this and try get a setup like that. It looks so awesome.
Holly balls this is awesome. I have been looking for a good way to do a PC ambilight for years
Thanks so much for watching! It really is incredible! I still cant believe there are literally zero videos on youtube about this!!
Oh, don’t forget their Audio Visualizers… it converts your entire room into a light show with the sound coming from your PC’s audio too lol.
awesomeeeee!!!!
yes, more tutorials about this, and linking it to give, please!
Totally blown away :D amazing work... I'd LOVE to see this setup with KDA Pop Stars played on it!
Amazing! Thanks for the video. I'll have to build this.
Thanks for the video! Does this only work with content played from a connected PC?
Hi, I use an AVR too. How can we get this to work?
I personally use ambibox with serial output for my PC on an ultrawide monitor and it works perfectly with very little latency
There is also the udp option but my router makes the latency horrible
This is amazing! Do you kniw if Signal RGB will work with a WLED 2D matrix? I'll have to check it out.
Thanks so much!! Hope you've been good. Love your videos! I don't think it has native support but you could very easily create segments for all the strips, position them where you would like and create your own matrix like that!
Easy to learn explanation, great achievable results, and overall an amazing video! Subscribed
