But you should be able to set a temperature in the air conditioning system and it should then make sure that it is that temperature in the car. If the car is modern. Does it have an automatic function?
I think it's more that 60kWh nett? The ZE40 was 43nett and said 40 too. And every kWh counts to get the km out. Curious to see the real capacity. It seems pretty efficient at least.
Efficient? maybe somewhere in the middle. Not bad, not good. But enough efficient. My ioniq 2017 uses much less, And I know that the 54KWH niro and kona do have a much better range at 100 km/h. And until now I've not seen a commercial car which is using less as an ioniq. (model 2017-now).
I have a problem in understanding this Wh measurement for example at min 16:56. How is this read in human language? If you go a km the car would consume 217W if it would take an hour to do it? Who does 1km per hour?
@@BatteryLife Yeah, they try to avoid a confusion and create another. It's like you ask me how much did I traveled yesterday in my boat and I answer: 60knotshour... They should have sick with the joules.
On Volkswagen you don't have to steer or turn the steering wheel when driving with travel assist. It has capacitive steering wheel - a light touch is enough.
Maybe Id.3 will give more efficiency, is an older model and is more optimized and depurated. But in terms of desight, interior, overall quality, Megane looks best. Even Cupra Born is more appealing than VW and better choice for me.
I also checked that the odometer shows less km. Unfortunately for me, I estimated 53/54 kWh. I have done a few trips from 100% to 2% and even 0% during which I have done 315km at an average of 16.7kWh/100km. It means having 53 kWh available. Other users and other testers have also noticed this, but everything seems ok on the car you tested. Very strange
A very, very nice car, inside and out! Unfortunately not an option for me because I have a single garage, typically german, relatively narrow. Unfortunately, the loading flap position at the front right is the most unfavorable one could wish for in a single garage. So the Megane unfortunately falls out of the circle of possible EVs for me. Pity! 🤷🏼♂

Hi, thanks the review! I am curious about the 90km/h range and consumption test (in eco mode), and the city riding. Btw: what about the energy prices recharging EVs? (Is the 22kw AC worth it?)
@@FernandoMiguel AC on the road. This opportunity still comparative, better for the battery, and maybe cheaper. If that Renault Megane E-Tech could ride around 14-15kWh/100km, than with only one stop (coffee, toilet, reading messages, short relax, eating) it can go 150 km further (so 400km + 150km = 550km), which is not bad!
DC is actually better, no need for inverter. The impact on battery life is repeating full charges at very high current. If you don't charge to 100 nor use ultra fast chargers, impact on battery will be small. You get no benefits from charging AC, unless you have more stalls of that available
@@FernandoMiguel I don't think so, the fast DC charging could be much more worse, than the AC charging, and with this base range (more than 400km in eco) with a short stop you can get + 1/3 distance (~ 600 km). While the price can be lower.
Tesla has recently changed their autosteer to use the cabin camera. That has significantly reduced the need to pull on the wheel. It is a fairly new addition on some models so you may not have tried it. In practice it is much more usable.

Great video - thanks. Perhaps you should have driven with the climate control on all the time to keep the consumption the same the whole trip - but I guess that's the only thing that could influence the trip.
Danke! But could we have efficiency expressed in miles per kwh, please? My Renault Zoe does 4.8 miles/kwh for local non- motorway trips in the summer, but this drops to 3.1 on the motorway travelling at 70mph. (51kwh battery).
Very Poor range from a combustion owner perspective 170 miles range in perfect condition s however in reality you won't get 120 miles 1-no one drives to 0% 2- most people won't charge to 100% it takes almost 2 hours even in. Fast charger 3- hardly no heater nor Ac on 4- add cold weather and charge cost substantially increased because here in UK it costs £47 around 55 euros for a full charge using public charger now imagine only getting 120 to 150 miles that's terrible 😳 that's bankruptcy 🤦🤦
I'd also like to see % of charge left and battery temperature displayed. And a button to initiate battery conditioning, whether heating or cooling, to maximize charging efficiency when DCFC is needed.
Im waiting for this car tome come in my company for drivin. In my opinion too big wheels are on that E-Megane and draining battery 20% more than should be... We are ask Renault for smaller wheels and we will receive 18" version, that is the lowest they producing for that model of car. Right now im driving Hyundai Kona Electric and i cannot skeep 250 km city driving even last couple of days and weather condition are between 25-30° perfect for battery. In my opinion car is too agressive even in ECO "slowest" mode. Also we have a year old Renault Zoe who have same engine, power and battery capacity like Kona and is able to skeep 320+km city driving range easy, sometimes show me 400km but reallity about 300-350 depends of driving. Hyundai is not close to that... If you turn ON air condition you lost 50km of driving, in Zoe is not konected to battery and you can drive eich your climate all day without losing range. 👏🏻 Yes, Kona is almost 300kg havier, 17" wheels, but Zoe is also 1.500kg like some normal wagoon car 😀 and 16" wheel size. Hope this car will skeep around 400km, that is what we need. We have one Kona 150kw power (210 hp) and range on that car is easy 400+km, around 450 without problem, but other two Kona's are not even to 280 close. In winter in my experience we lost about 70-90km range, depends of temperature.
The EV technology has improved by leaps and bounds over the past few years. It's amazing that the best in class EV cars of last year are now beaten by the latest arrivals. Tesla Model 3 is so old school and boring now.
Iron nitride magnets can drastically improve the entire EV market for every make and model with smaller lighter motors without sacrificing power. Iron nitride magnets do not use rare earth metals which means no bad PR from environmental impacts and no bad PR from national security issues and they cost less than neodymium to boot. Do some research Niron Magnetics is making them let's get a revolution in EVs kicked off.
Much quieter inside than Kona. Less power than Kona felt. Great quality and better looks than Kona. Very, very safe and very good looking car. But there should have been 63 kwh instead of just 60. And why is there less "punch" than in a Kona?
Mmm - I think the range sounds pretty poor for a new 60kwh car - not even that big. I would have expected 390-400km no? Normally on these runs there is some deep diagnosis and criticism of the sat nav and screen usability generally, I think this car got let off lightly.....
Only car under 70.000 euro that can drive 400km at 130km/hour is the Tesla Model 3 Long Range. Even the Ford Mustang Mach E Long Range which has 610 km WLTP drops off a lot from 110km/hour to 130 km/hour mark. EDIT: 110km/hour is a different story. Many can go 400+ then.
@@BatteryLife Agreed - Thats why these reviews at 130km are so damaging for EV building reputation. There is insufficient comment regarding the vehicles real range capability. Its not that your test at 130 should not be done of course, but proper recognition should be made that the car would or could achieve so much more if driven at more economic speed (like 90 for instance, the previously internationally recognised best compromise speed)
Man, it was 126 kmh. Do you drive 300 km in 2 h 30 min? No, you dont. Driven with 100 average, which is the real speed in germany in long trips, you will get over 300.....
@@GHOOGLEMALE Thing is, here in Denmark you can drive 130km/hr on the highway, which is why it's very very relevant to us. My wife has 96km to her work place, and has about 90% of that route on 130km/hr roads. So when she gets home, and we want to visit family which lives about an hour away, we want a car that can do 400km at 130km/hour. That is exactly why we chose the Model 3 Long Range over 3-4 other cars. We will choose another car as car #2 in a few years when our diesel renault dies, and have other needs for that car. There are plenty of reviews/test showing 90km/hr etc, so seeing 130km/hr tests is very nice for some of us.

5) Could you practically test if you can turn on heating, heated seats/steering wheel while connected to AC & DC charger (current issue with Zoe, even the latest ZE50).
Thanks in advance for your help! Cannot wait for upcoming videos about this car.
1. No
2. No
3. I don't know. This car did not let me install apps
@@BatteryLife Thanks! If you are willing to test for me 5), I’d be very grateful. Maybe you did not notice that there were 5 questions (“see more”).
But you should be able to set a temperature in the air conditioning system and it should then make sure that it is that temperature in the car. If the car is modern. Does it have an automatic function?
Yes, you can set it, but I did not want AC.
Hi Chris, I presume there is wireless charging and wireless Android Auto on board, so wondering why you have your phone plugged in?
Phone does not support wireless charging
Thanks Chris, great reviews, demos mot due in Ireland till Sept. Very interested but depends on pricing.
I have a problem in understanding this Wh measurement for example at min 16:56.
How is this read in human language?
If you go a km the car would consume 217W if it would take an hour to do it? Who does 1km per hour?
Wh is energy, W is power. The car consumed 217 Wh for 1 km. Which is the same than 21,7 kWh for 100km
The Megane one is capacitive...
The Google map view is spectacular indeed.
Looks like vw id3 has more competition
A 110 km/h will be more realistic for most of European countries speed limits. But is not a bad result less than 22 kwh/100 km for that speed.
Actually most European countries have 130 km/h highway speed limit.
Great video Chris! Thanks. it looks less spacious that ID.3
In my opinion ID.3 is way better for the price.
Imagine what a self driving would have made of your drive into the charger at the end of the video, and you probably didnt notice the madness
Good video. Thank you.
Can't wait to see which is better, the ID3 or the Megane! 👌
Maybe Id.3 will give more efficiency, is an older model and is more optimized and depurated. But in terms of desight, interior, overall quality, Megane looks best. Even Cupra Born is more appealing than VW and better choice for me.
@@DILINGER0 Cupra Born just became 2150 EUR more expensive (but got a heatpump).
Why is the centre screen so much bigger than we have in the Uk?
Greet video! Very interesting car
Great video! 👏👏👏
So is it even more efficient if you slap 18" wheels on??? :O
A bit maybe
So it does not have addaptive cruise control?
Doesn't your ID.3 have Capacitive Steering wheel? There you dont have to move the Steer wheel at all, just touch it gently :)
Yes. I believe his ID3 doesn’t have TravelAssist.
Can't wait for the Alpine 5 Eletric.
Charge speed test please
A very, very nice car, inside and out! Unfortunately not an option for me because I have a single garage, typically german, relatively narrow. Unfortunately, the loading flap position at the front right is the most unfavorable one could wish for in a single garage. So the Megane unfortunately falls out of the circle of possible EVs for me. Pity! 🤷🏼♂
I don't get why it's such a problem ? And it's better on the street when you charge when parallel parked.
Great review the net cappacity is a mistery!!! even the car dealers dont agree....
2year warrenty on car atm upgrade for free to 5years
battery warrenty what the los can be at the end nothing to be found...
If renault brings out a 80 version im game
👍 It is best in the city, 90km and 120km
No, it was still great on the highway.
Estate / grand tour version of this car is needed
And a "No-SUV-Version" please.
Whats the real ground clearance for this? choosing between id.3 and Megane -eTech and clearance is one of the most important criteria for me. Thanks.
Sorry, no idea.
@@BatteryLife maybe you still have megane abd could test? Maybe you will make a video with id.3 next to megane?
13,7 cm
does it have heat pump??
Hi, thanks the review! I am curious about the 90km/h range and consumption test (in eco mode), and the city riding. Btw: what about the energy prices recharging EVs? (Is the 22kw AC worth it?)
AC at home?
Cause if it's highway, DC charging is best
While the price can be lower.
any heat pump on this car?
Don't remember, sorry
Yes they ALL have a heat pump.
Tesla has recently changed their autosteer to use the cabin camera. That has significantly reduced the need to pull on the wheel. It is a fairly new addition on some models so you may not have tried it. In practice it is much more usable.
Last time Tesla was a Model Y in May
@@BatteryLife it was changed in 2022.20.6 and 2022.20.7 which are the latest "regular" updates for non FSD. I belive they started deploying these the last two weeks roughly.
It makes perfect sense needing to botch the steering wheel. If you sleep/dead and hold your hands on the steering wheel it would recognize as everything ok. Cam vision to tell head position (sleeping/dead) is much better.
I'm confused. The 40kwh should give you 300km. You got that on a 60kwh?
Wltp is not highway speed!
@@BatteryLife wltp is an average of different types of speeds right? 60 kWh Is supposed to give you a range of 450+ on the highway alone at that speed it should be closer to 370. Where am I getting confused? I'm looking at buying a 40kw one, will do mostly highway at 105kmph. What should I be expecting? 200??
495 km at 90 km/h
Great video - thanks. Perhaps you should have driven with the climate control on all the time to keep the consumption the same the whole trip - but I guess that's the only thing that could influence the trip.
In the UK these are £36K - it will have to be astonishing to beat the MG 4 and the like which are £8K less
In the Uk we’ve been shortchanged in terms of options too, no big screen and no heat pump.
The Iconic model has a Heat Pump as standard
Love it but im afraid it has too small trunk for me with two kids
Yes - the winning combination would be if Renault would made estate version of it.
Perfect!
Danke! But could we have efficiency expressed in miles per kwh, please? My Renault Zoe does 4.8 miles/kwh for local non- motorway trips in the summer, but this drops to 3.1 on the motorway travelling at 70mph. (51kwh battery).
For once a proper real world test!
this is with heatpump?
yes
what about 40 kWh model then? Usless?
not uselss - depends on how you use a car - mainly city driving ? then it may be fine , most journeys are under 30 miles
"Charge port here on the right left" 🤣
I know 🤦
Very Poor range from a combustion owner perspective 170 miles range in perfect condition s however in reality you won't get 120 miles
1-no one drives to 0%
2- most people won't charge to 100% it takes almost 2 hours even in. Fast charger
3- hardly no heater nor Ac on
4- add cold weather and charge cost substantially increased because here in UK it costs £47 around 55 euros for a full charge using public charger now imagine only getting 120 to 150 miles that's terrible 😳 that's bankruptcy 🤦🤦
So it doesn’t have orange car play
Sure, it has Apple Car Play and Android Auto, both wireless.
If you can choose in your car between displaying km/kWh or kWh/100 km, which one does everybody prefer and why?
Definitely miles or km/kwh. Because it makes more sense, especially in US where we use miles per gallon.
If i could choose i would let it show in % per 100km like my smartphone does whit apps
I'd also like to see % of charge left and battery temperature displayed. And a button to initiate battery conditioning, whether heating or cooling, to maximize charging efficiency when DCFC is needed.
Wh/km
Can i watch netflix on it? Maybe while i m charging it?
Did not see that in the appstore
170 miles is poor for a car that costs £36.000 the new MG 4 costs £29.000 and it reaches 250 or 260 miles on a full charge, disappointed in Renault.
Mg4 does that on paper. Let's see in a real test.
Yes, Kona is almost 300kg havier, 17" wheels, but Zoe is also 1.500kg like some normal wagoon car 😀 and 16" wheel size.
One of the reason I would choose the Megane E Tech is for its 20" wheels XD... It looks superb!!!
💯💯💯💯
170 miles is really poor in perfect conditions, they advertise at 280
The EV technology has improved by leaps and bounds over the past few years. It's amazing that the best in class EV cars of last year are now beaten by the latest arrivals. Tesla Model 3 is so old school and boring now.
@Stanley Knife Not in Europe where chargers are extensive and in most highways.
👍👍👍👍👍
Much quieter inside than Kona. Less power than Kona felt. Great quality and better looks than Kona. Very, very safe and very good looking car.
But there should have been 63 kwh instead of just 60. And why is there less "punch" than in a Kona?
Mmm - I think the range sounds pretty poor for a new 60kwh car - not even that big. I would have expected 390-400km no? Normally on these runs there is some deep diagnosis and criticism of the sat nav and screen usability generally, I think this car got let off lightly.....
At that speed even a Model Y can "only" drive 370 km. I am ok with that result at these conditions

The laws of Physics are also valid for this car! The amount of energy necessary to move this 2+ ton vehicle is many times that of a much lighter IC-vehicle which needs a lot less power than this behemoth. As long as EV are that heavy, filled with absolutely unneccessary gadgets and way too expensive, An IC car will be my choice.
If you talk about physics, what about the efficiency? From generation to the road what is way more efficient 😉
right EVs are Waaaaaaaaaaaay more efficient than an ICE car
buy never a front wheel drive car
Renault....no thanks....
It is built on the same platform and drivetrain as the Nissan Ariya
Renault has one of the best efficiency consumptions along with Tesla.
By far better than ID3
Thanks for the video Chris! How does the Mégane's auto-steer / lane centering compare with Kona electric? Better, worse, or roughly the same? Those are the two cars I'm deciding between right now! Thanks.
I am talking about it in the video. For several minutes!

My company have 3 Kona' one im driving afther a year wich ZOE. My Kona have same engine like ZOE but is 300kg havier, and ZOE have about 50-80km more range these days when temepratures eas around 30°
I dont know on winter but i know ZOE lost about 50km range. Now when im drivig Kona last 10 days i see in setting it has some battery option for winter but says that decreasing range, didnt test yet.
Also Kona air condition is connected sadly to battery and you will lost 50km when is turned ON, on ZOE is individual.
Both cars are low build quality but ZOE have much better interior quallity stuff than Kona.
Also we have one Kona wich better engine and 220hp power, and that Kona have much more range. I was drive that car for 2 days, about 350+ km and im back to my job wich 25% battery left.
How you can test a battery without using the air conditioning? And also in warm weather 😂 and u should use in eco mode to see result
