    Jon is a cool dude to hang with. I did a roadtrip in his 75 firebird with him and he helped me with my 68 firebird too. I have the c4 rotor c5 caliper combo on my 68 firebird. Got a c5 setup on my 67 tempest and we have stock gm disc brakes on our 66 buick... it was only 239 for the buick and fit under a 15 inch wheel.
    Great video btw

    My 66 Impala uses 11" A-Body Chevelle disc brakes and calipers with the original Impala drum spindles and a simple custom bracket to mount the caliper. Only physical mod was to redrill the spindle for the bearing cotter pin. Used a heavy duty 70s half-ton truck master cylinder, a dual action 8" MasterPower booster and a quality wildwood proportioning valve. Went through 4 cheap repo Chinese valves before going with the wildwood. My 66 B-body is the same weight as a 70 Chevelle so there is no worry using the 11 inch discs. Plus it allows me to still use 14" skinnies up front when I go to the drag strip

      Interesting I have a 69 impala and I used spindles and hubs off a c3. Then bought pads rotors and calipers. Gives me 4 piston brakes but they don’t clear 14s or some 15 do and some don’t

    Great info however cross drilled rotors are purely for show and warp much faster and develop heat cracks at the holes. You also reduce stopping surface area which kinda negates the benefits of big brakes. Slotted are fine but would highly suggest no cross drilled

    I like bigger brakes as well but I just really wanted to go old school period correct 15 inch wheels on my 66 Special and 67 cutlass. So had to go with original disks. . Big brake swaps would work with those wheels😞

    Question about the location of the spacer that goes between the disc brake packing plate does it go before the retainer for the bearing or do you need to press the bearing off to install the spacer?

  • @mindsettek22
    @mindsettek22 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is the c4 non hd calipers with the 12” front rotors, if you wanted to you could upgrade to the c4 HD calipers you get a much thicker rotor and a 13” dia rotor and for the back you could get the 89-97 caliper off camaros to match the c4 fronts I believe c4 vettes also used the same rear caliper .

    Is there any guidance you can lend on the brake lines ? Can I just order a kit off inline tube or summit and use them? Would they need different fittings ? Could you maybe do a breakdown on the brake line set up
    I have everything for ls1 conversion but I’m kinda lost as to adapting the lines snd all

    so on the rear, you switched the L caliper with the R caliper an R caliper with the L caliper right? so the bleeder is at the top?? :P i think that what you were sayin but wanted to clarify for others who might not know about the bleeder needing to be at the top.

  • @dan9809

    Would this be compatible for 2" drop? The 2" drop spindles say that they have to be disc brakes (I believe).
    Is your car dropped or is it stick height?
    I saw 2020 camaro ss front brakes for sale and would like to put these on my 70 Lemans

  • @lucasgarza

    Did you custom make the emergency brake bracket 10:25 that attaches to caliper? I know you can't reuse the E-brake bracket from the donor Camaro. Just looking for options for the bracket placement. Nice video!

    • @SPPTVarmy
      @SPPTVarmy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes

    • @lucasgarza
      @lucasgarza 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SPPTVarmy It also looks like you reversed the e-brake drum cylinder so the lever will face away from the caliper. Thats a great idea! I was going to weld a tab to the shock mount to match the direction of the lever. Not anymore. Well done sir and thanks for sharing.

    I thought it was backward i thought the disc spindle were the short ones and the drum spindle were longer due to having the anchor pin for the brake shoe springs to attach to🤔?

    • @novaracer2000
      @novaracer2000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are right, i noticed that after the video came out.if you use the disc spindle you have to add a spacer.

    • @209chevymon
      @209chevymon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya thought so cause i remember reading that somewhere where they said the drum spindle was longer and needed to be grinded down to match the shorter disc spindle due to having the extra length for the anchor pin bolt well anyway thanks Rob for the reply

  • @randleheather5

    12 or 13 ? If you are doing this you better get that part right otherwise because depending on which rotor size you get your wheels might not fit.

    Question so I have a 68 Firebird and I want to convert it to 4 wheel disks it's got the 4 piston front caliper brakes factory all brand new upgraded uh with new calipers So couple of things I wanted to do the Act breaks but the wheels are 15 now they're old style rikens they're pretty cool wheels don't really want to change them because you can't find them in 1617 or bigger is there a conversion kit with the rotors where they would fit with the 15 inch wheels that's one question the other question is the 684 piston caliper front brakes came with a metering valve Which I believe keeps the front desk breaks from lock up does that need to be deleted I found a power break system from a 69 sport Tempest Everything fits it's all on there even the rotors fit except the differences the 69 Tempest has one piston caliper front brakes so though I have the spindles the rotors the brackets complete for that car I didn't go to the 1 piston calipers it still has the factory for pistic helper brakes
