I've been offered several jobs in Bali but it will not cover my Aussie mortgage. I'm now renting out the spare rooms in my Oz house. At $200/room a week, 4 rooms will definitely cover my mortgage. I've been a sole parent for over 2 decades. I have 3 more rooms that I can rent out, once I move stuff to the back shed (it's big). But I just got offered a Head Chef position at a new restaurant here in Perth. 2 of my cooks are Balinese and the Head Chef at our sister restaurant is from Jakarta. Maybe, in time, I can bring my fiancè out to Oz, sponsored through my work? He's an amazing cook. Then we can save up for our dream of living on Gili Trawangan and having our own restaurant. We all need goals and hopes 🙏🏻

Bear in mind too, that February 2024 is the Indonesian general election. There will be a new president, which may stir things up regarding visas etc.

I have lived in 5 different countries. (Army bratt & gypsy blood running through my veins).
When I moved for NZ to AU I went with a suitcase and a handbag.
When I moved to Bali during the pandemic I came with 1 lrg and 1 medium suitcase plus a 7kg carry on bag.
Learning how to leave stuff behind is a lesson.. the hardest thing I left in NZ was my waterbed lol.. the hardest thing I left when moving here was my grown kids and my grand kids.. fortunately I will get to go back and visit with them.. 😊

So sorry to hear about your sister mate.
    🙏🏽
You hit the nail on the head about how difficult and complicated it can be to move to Indonesia. It's not all roses and unicorns, it takes hard work, determination and honesty with yourself to make it work.
If you're back in town in a couple of weeks I'd love to buy you a wee glass of something cold and frothy at the HGB, assuming Ron hasn't barred both of us 😁🍻

Good on ya mate, I can see emotion in your eyes and voice. Your a good man and everything will work out for you. Hardest thing is letting go of things that have become attached to you. I feel you as i'm going through that same process right now and want to follow your dream also of living in Bali.

I know how you feel. I emptied a three story house and downsized into 10 medium boxes to ship over from the states.. best thing is too be practical on what to take and learn to let go of what you cannot take.

I traveled to Bali with a mate for the first time in May this year and absolutely loved it.
I discovered you and your videos on Facebook and here on TH-cam not long after arriving back in Australia. Your videos are amazing and give a great insight into Bali and so much more.
I’m curious as to why you have all your things in shipping containers in New Zealand and not back home in Australia? Considering you live in Bali and come home every so often to Aus

It strikes me that many people who look to move to SE Asia because they are ready living in tight financial circumstances, this men’s (to me) that even with the lower cost of living there is little or no safety net in case of medical emergency or similar.
I am surprised you are taking a lot of stuff with you, your explanation notwithstanding.
If you’re going to worry about what everyone back in Australia then maybe heading overseas isn’t something you should consider.
My wife and I will move to SE Asia , however we will leave our assets here, and rent what we need overseas, we give ourselves the ability to leave at the drop of a hat.
I do feel for your angst at leaving family, you’re clearly very close to them, and the sad loss of your sister must have been very emotional for you.
I like your advice about “try before you buy” . Thanks for n interesting video about your journey.

Mate, thankyou for your vieos and my most sincere condolences for your loss. The couple time si have visited Bali and my last visit, got me thinking about retiring there. I have skills i can bring to Bali with my automotive spare parts and mechanical experience. I would like , if you could, for you to do a vlog on importing your car to Bali. I have an inherited LAndrover that i would bring with me. Keep these vieos up mate and when i come up again soon, i'll send you a message to catchup . P.S your wife has a great sence of humour and she seems like a lovely and wonderful person.

So sorry to hear about your sister. Leaving family behind in another city or country is the hardest thing I've found. Trying Bali out for a couple of months is very good advice. Another thing people moving to Bali is even though the exchange rate is good at the moment, it does fluctuate. We've experienced a lot lower than the current exchange rate. Not meaning to be pessimistic just cautionary.

Visa are easy to get. Especially retirement visa. Use a good local visa agent. It is not complicated. The first visa will cost around $1300 to $1500 aus. There are plethora of areas you can stay in other than Sanur (sanur is ok many australains living there if thats what you like) Denpasar, Renon, Tabanan, Sakawati, Gianyar, Candidasa go north to Singarjar. All are good areas. Life would not be difficult in Bali it would be wonderful.

When i moved to Aussie from nz i ended up just giving everything away, because to sell it wasn't worth it id rather give it to friends and family than take a big loss and sell my tools and equipment for next to nothing to people i dont no.

So happy that when I return to Indonesia in a few years, I'll have no connections of any kind linking me back to the USA. No reason to come back.
As to stuff, it's always cheaper to convert what you have to money and repurchase in your country of choice.

  • @elsienorback7689
    @elsienorback7689 ปีที่แล้ว

I think it’s cheaper to sell what you can live without and buy the same thing or something similar over there. Yeah, I know you cannot get what you have from years past. I think it’s more less becoming attached to materialistic things.
