FordTechMakuloco just wanted to thank you again for all your great videos, and getting back to me last year. With your help and that of your videos, I fixed my dad's 2000- F150's transmission and changed the timing chain. Had a bit of a Snafu at first when I used the long screw for the right chain guide on both guides, when I put the cover back on I noticed the bolt wasn't flush on the left, so pulled the cover off and found that I had forgotten to pull the pin on one of the tensioners. Anyhow, one year later my dad's truck has nearly the same power as when it was new, and is running great. My next project will be to service the rear differential. Again thanks for all the videos and take care.
FordTechMakuloco Have you done a swap from 4r75w to 6r80 on a f150 04 5.4 triton?
How can I get a hold of you..??
What’s your number, I have a few questions, lol 😂
I’m think of swapping my 4.6 2v for a 5.4 2v,
Can I use the same comp. and engine harness from the 4.6 to run the 5.4..??
It’s on a 2004 f150 not heritage model..
will the transmission bolt on to the 5.4 ..??
@@josearellano3268 You can get more reliability and a lot more HP \TQ from a Coyote Swap. The 4.6L is pretty Bullitt proof the 5.4L isn't.
Hey Brian, do you have a video on a 2004 Ford Expedition front heater core removal? 🙏 thanks.
Honestly a large majority of ford dealerships and their technicians would benefit from this video, you should probably be getting paid by ford to properly train and provide service procedures to their techs!
He gets paid by youtube already , he benifits the world not ford techs
Ford trains it's techs better than any other manufacturer. Fact
@@marcuswolf184 I don't know where the dealerships are getting their mechanics now then. I've been to three different ones and they couldn't fix the problem on my truck. Didn't used to be this way. Always had good luck with Ford mechanics 20 years ago.
@@marcuswolf184 traines 😅
I’m here watching already lmfao
I’ve watched hundreds of automotive DIY videos and appreciate all of them. Overall this is probably the highest quality I’ve seen. Great lighting, great audio, he hits on all the important things, doesn’t repeat himself, nothing irritating. This video should be the model.
I just changed mine on my 2014 ford expedition. 83k miles. Fault code P0720! Went in to limp mode. Miles to empty went blank and my Tire Pressure Monitoring light came on. Output shaft sensor was the problem. Parks ford of Wesley chapel wanted to replace transmission for 5k! They did not even consider changing the lead frame when I explained to the service manager that ford recalled over 1 million cars and trucks for the same problems. All ford did is perform a software load on 2013 and newer cars and trucks to eliminate the possibility of downshifting into first gear if the output shaft sensor fails. However they still kept putting in the same faulty lead frame in newer cars and trucks. Thanks for your great videos. Big Help! I think the total cost was about 275 bucks with fluid and gasket as well as a new connector. Runs like a champ!
Awesome and congrats of getting it done. I have a 2014 Expy too, but the trans still is trouble-free at 130k miles (knock on wood!). Did the dealer confirm that all 2013+ are already factory flashed not to downshift to 1st gear?
@@SevenSixTwo2012 They wont tell you that its reflashed but its been updated. They will also tell you that your fluid is discolored and burnt which is not true! They want to sell you a transmission bottom line! Mercon Lv oil will discolor quickly due to the additive package in the fluid. This is normal, and even Ford has a service bulletin out that explains this. Beware of dealer service. Its a dirty game to them!
@@georgekrall175 Allright, thank you for the information. I changed the fluid & filter last summer myself, it was quite an ordeal. No drain plug + no refill tube makes this job pretty crappy...
Yes I've been going through the same thing with Ford decided that I'm going to do it myself. ford flashing the PCM didn't do a thing to fix the down shift problem
You, by far, have the most comprehensive and thorough, how to, videos on TH-cam.
Well done, Sir
Your videos are an absolute game changer ! My transition place wanted to charge me 1,500 to replace my lead frame. After watching your video i changed t my self for just under $300. You are a savior my friend !
This video is gold. It just saved me from having to pay somebody to diagnose my F-150 and fix it. I really appreciate that you made this and made it so clear and easy to follow. Thanks!
THANK YOU!!! My 2013 F-150 just went out about 2 weeks ago. I bought all the parts and tools that I'd need and watched this video about 6 or 7 times. I took a few notes and wrote down step-by-step instructions just in case my phone wouldn't load this video if I needed it to. Just like all your other videos, this one was absolutely spot on and gave me the confidence to tackle this job by myself. I didn't even have to refer back to the video once during the entire process. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!
Just in case anyone out there is contemplating this job, I was able to do it and I consider myself a "slighter better than the average DIY mechanic.....at best." Also a few notes that may help the next guy:
-The front and rear bolts of the trans pan required a 1/4 drive socket wrench because the cooler lines and exhaust pipe are in the way. I couldn't use an impact gun. When I reinstalled them, I basically guessed the torque setting because my torque wrench wouldn't fit.
-I only had (3) transfer tubes vise (4) on my 2013. The two to the right (green and blue) were actually stuck to the valve body. The other one was still in the far left hole.
-For the life of me, I cant remember ensuring the manual shaft and manual valve were lined up. I think I did it. I've driven the vehicle 40 miles since and everything seems perfect. But I just can remember actually lining the two up. I was got sidetracked torquing the valve body bolts.
-Trans fluid starting spilling out after 5.5 quarts. Next time, I'll measure after the 4th quart and adjust as needed.
I cant thank you enough for all the videos you make!!!
Nice!
Where were you able to find a replacement lead frame?
@@codysturgill3695 I found an after market lead frame at Transtar in San Antonio. If you call them they will ship via UPS. I believe they guy I talked to was Scott. It was a perfect fit.
@@FordTechMakuloco Hello, I would like to know where I can buy the transmission module and that the manufacturer is Ford? The link that you leave as a link says that it is not available for the money. Many thanks in advance.
Thank you, @jonleonguerrero8077, your comment was helpful also! I’m considering doing all this as preventative maintenance on a’15 F150 Platinum
Great video! I've been wrenching for over 45 years and you are one talented technician and a good teacher! Thank You for the hard work you put in editing these videos AFTER you put in a long day at the shop.....well done!
You have taught me so much about Fords from real recommended service intervals to what Fords to avoid, THANK YOU! 🤙🇺🇸
This dude has a video for EVERY issue I’ve ran into with my F150. HUGE thanks for your videos and sharing your knowledge at a level I can understand.
Thanks so much! Shop quoted me 2k. I used your affiliate links along side this video. $500 and 3 hours later we’re back and running properly. 👍
Love this guy's youtube channel - I learn so much from him!!
My 2013 F150 Supercrew popped up a P0770 code and the yellow wrench on the dash came on. When I'd put the truck in gear it would SLAM into 3rd and stay there - not shifting to any other gear. Fortunately I was close to home and drove it slowly into my garage. I researched this code and found nothing specific. I did find in my research these lead frames do frequently fail. Stealer wanted $800 for a new valve body since they no longer sell the individual parts. Decided to remove the valve body and take a chance by cleaning up the lead frame and all the solenoids. separated the lead frame from the valve body, took out each solenoid and cleaned each one best I could, one by one. While I had each solenoid out, I tried to clean the contacts with a razor blade. I also cleaned the contacts in the lead frame using the razor blade trying to scratch off any reside from the pins that would cause resistance. I carefully attached the lead frame to the VB and stuffed the VB back into the trans. Added 9 quarts of fluid and fired up the motor. THANKFULLY the yellow wrench went away and the error code disappeared. I saved myself quite a bit of $$ by simply cleaning the lead frame connectors' and the solenoids without replacing any parts. Truck drives and shifts normally. Again, thanks to this channel for demonstrating how to R&R the lead frame.
This man has been a live saver not only with my 5.0 6r80 but also my 3 vavle triton. Thanks for everything you do!
This video was very helpful, thank you. I would like to mention that my 2017 F150 did not have a spring on the thermal bypass valve. The valve also looked different than the one in the video, so I assume there was some sort of update made at some point. I don't know how common that is, but I spent a good half hour searching around to see if I had maybe dropped it. I finally did an internet search and found someone who mentioned not having a spring in theirs, so I calmed down and went on with the job. Anyway, thanks again for your informative and well made videos.
Thank You so Much!
@@FordTechMakuloco Honestly, I'm surprised that more people don't send you a few bucks when one of your videos helps them save a bunch of money by giving them the info and confidence to do their services themselves. I read a lot of comments from people saying the videos helped them out so much, it would be nice if they would take the time and send a tip to acknowledge that all your experience didn't come for free. I realize that content creation can be a lucrative business by itself, but I feel that when you're actually helping people by giving your years of knowledge away for free and literally saving them thousands of dollars, that deserves more than just a like and subscription. Just my two cents.
I'm part owner in a shop and the local transmission shop closed and the owner retired. We have been getting all the business and in some ways it's been a trial by fire. Customers can't wait 6 weeks to get into the dealership. I'm fixing a reman that has a P0720 code and this helped greatly. I just wanted to see what might come flying out at me when I took the valve body off and where it would go back into.
Thank you,
Brian,
My sincere thanks for putting together all of these videos. It has made essential service to my 2017 F-150 5.0L 4X4 easy and done with confidence. This service is the last one on the list after I replaced spark plugs, front differential fluid, transfer case fluid, rear differential fluid, and new Motorcraft yellow coolant. The truck has never run better and I've actually gained 4+ MPG for highway driving.
My transmission started acting up (slamming gears and wouldn't shift into 6th) and was throwing multiple codes at around 50k miles; the main one being a P0720 for the output speed shaft sensor. Given the TSB related to that code for 2011-2013 6R80's, I am confident that my issue is related to the molded lead frame. I was able to order the molded lead frame, foam strip seal for the solenoids, transmission filter, bulkhead sleeve, and pump pass through seal from my local Ford Dealer for $330 out the door. Definitely worth it and will save many headaches in the future. I actually had a different dealer tell me there was no serviceable filter on my truck, so I knew I had to do this myself.
A HUGE THANK YOU from your neighbor in the great state of Missouri.
Just finished this repair. Video was spot on. The fluid level check and adjustment was the worst part. Thank Loco for your help. Long live the channel!!
I'm not sure if this is what I need to do myself or not. But mine will sometimes have a loud bang and a jolt like I'm getting rear ended by a small economy car. It has happened when I'm going up a hill at 30mph. And it happens when I try to gun it and get it to go into passing gear to pass someone. It's a loud audible BANG and I feel the whole truck jolt. Mine never got fixed for the recall until today. It's a 2013 3.5 v6 ecoboost and the dealership sent someone out to my home today to perform the recall. And it didn't change anything. I have 138k on the odometer. Was yours doing this loud bang shift type thing as well?
Looking at doing this myself wondering what the difficulty level of this is I’m nervous about messing with the trans
Just pulled the 0722 code on my 13. Im thinking of doing it myself. Does the trans need to be flashed to the pcm after? Any pointers you can give me.
@enzodunn2577 that sounds like you need to lube your slip yoke
i've never got into any transmission work ever, i just replaced the mold lead frame today with no issue, thanks to your video and taking my time i completed the job with no issues so far so thanks for the awesome video, it helped me alot.
You're a lifesaver Makuloco! Just completed this job in my garage this weekend. Defiantly a pain using only jack-stands but I can finally feel safe and confident in my Truck now. These videos mean a lot to me. Also fixed the coolant Y-Pipe Issue and programmed my new TPMS sensors with your videos.
Thank you for this video. My 2017 ran into the same issue less than 6 months after buying it used with 50k miles. This is waaay more help than any dealer I've spoken to.
Did everything work out?
@@tonyroy8173Ended up selling the truck due to the needed parts being on back order. The dealerships were no help.

Thank you for another Ford lesson. I do a bulk of the Ford work at the shop I work at & you are a huge part of my jobs being done right the first time. So many lessons that I otherwise would have fumbled my way through. You are awesome! 👍👍
Great video as always Brian! My 2012 F150 was failing so I tackled this project over the weekend. 163K miles. Couple tips for others. The OEM lead frame was available from my local dealer but stock is limited. They wanted my VIN to order another one from Ford. No reprogramming required. All the online stores don't have them available. The bulkhead adapter was stuck, I pulled it out with a pliers, so make sure you get a new one. Took about 9 quarts to refill. Took about 4 or 5 hours but I was really taking my time with torque sequence and letting everything drain good.
Success thanks to this video.
2011 F150 5.0 w/ 209K
I had an intermitten no crank no start. This issue developed as an occasional delayed start when turning the key. Noted that the dash gear select indicator light would not illuminate in failure state (P would not be orange) Eventually, progressed to where I could put the key in and turn 5-500 times before the indicator would illuminate and allow for a regular start.
Ordered the OEM Lead frame, coastal sleeve, pump pass through and fluid from a dealership. I had a fluid change and trans filter replaced less than 10 mos ago otherwise would have changed the filter too. Although the trans pan gasket could be reused, I had to pick up an aftermarket at assembly time due to damage noted at the flexible point on the old gasket.
This video was great to eliminate any surprises. One deviation I had was 2 of my transfer tubes were secured in the trans and 2 were secured in the valve body. No big deal as none of them were loose, just an unexpected configuration. I put the front end on jack stands for better access. This still allowed me to fill the trans when finished, I did take them out for the final fluid check though. Glad I printed the torque specs and tightening sequence as that was very handy to have during assembly.
Grateful to have found this video. FordTechMakuloco, thanks a ton for creating and sharing this. As others have said, you are a good communicator and effectively convey necessary info. With gratitude, Dennis.
I'm experiencing some similar issues and I'm wondering if this will help me. The truck occasionally won't crank. The P doesn't light up in the cluster and it just gets stuck in accessory. And the gear numbers and D occasionally flicker as I drive. The dealership is stumped and replaced my gear shifter in the center console thinking that would do it.
Just did this to my 2017 5.0 thanks to this video. Shifting smooth as butter!! The bulkhead sleeve was the hardest part for me at least
Can I ask some of the things you were experiencing before replacing the lead frame?
My 2011 F150 tried to kill me on the highway while towing a trailer. I noticed the speedometer moving around and then go to 0mph. The trans tried to shift into first gear multiple times. It banged and slammed like you wouldn’t believe. This was all before the recall. It got towed to Ford and they replaced the molded lead frame. The recall is abosolute garbage. It’s a bandaid like Brian stated. The trans won’t try to kill you, but you can still get stranded. It’s just a programming update so it won’t shift into first gear, but I believe it will just go into limp mode. Good job Ford! Doing this as a preemptive repair is a good idea.
So the recalls they dont do this? Going to be buying a 2013 tomorrow and it has had the 2 recalls done. So they designed this new one but dont put them in? I dont get it.
@@jackhenry6268(Recall) Software Update=$ Installing new molded lead frames=$$$
Get it now.
Granted they do install a new molded lead frame if you get a code for it up to a certain mileage and certain years.
New trucks should have updated molded lead frames. Not sure with years though.
Thanks for the detailed video. Going through this fix on my 2013 navigator. Navigator made it 205,000 on the original lead frame. No mechanics would take on the repair and no ford shop in town so I’m following your video and it’s going smooth so far
This video helped me resolve and repair my Dad's broken pump pass through seal in his 2009 F150 5.4. More videos than I can count of yours have helped me to save a lot of money on Ford repairs and I am extremely grateful. Thank you for all the time you take to make your videos. God bless!
Just changed mine out. Had limp mode on and off for about a week. Video saved me fr. Thank you
Thank you so much. I was trying to get my dealer to do this recall because my 11' was acting weird but of course they were saying it did not apply to my truck. Thanks to you and the work you kindly share with us I have been able to at least change fluid but thanks for this latest video I can do this update myself. Thank you again!
Thanks for the great Video, I replace my Lead Frame today in a Ford Territory (Australian) all went well , the tricky bit was having the bypass valve stay up long enough to get the valve body into place.
You really make it look easy. I don't own a Ford Truck, but with your videos I feel like I can do it all. Nice work! You really love what you do.
This helped me immensely. I have a 2014 F150 STX, speed sensor issues, odd driving, no codes (yet) but all sorts of weird shifting. Followed this video , bought the parts, drives 100% now. Thank you.
I love watching your videos man. You're such an outstanding mechanic. I wish mechanics today were 1/4 as knowledgeable and mindful as you are. If you lived near me you would be my tech for life. Great job and great educational videos! God bless!
Thank you very much for the video, was my go to for this project. My electrical connection to the case sleeve was full of muck and the twist tab broke instantly when I tried to turn it..... So I took the sleeve and the connection out as one by gently prying out..... was a close call, had visions of replacing the darn connector itself... Truck shifts smooth as butter now and hopefully it solves the zero speed indicator and stuck in 5th gear i got on the highway ! 2013 F-150 with 6r80 95k miles......
I replaced my lead frame a month ago. When I filled the transmission, it did not move. I thought it may have been a defective part. Finally found another one and installed it yesterday. Still didn’t move after filling the trans. I did exactly what you did in the video which is excellent by the way. Then it hit me, the pan seemed to need a little push to get it up against the trans. Could the pickup tube be flat against the bottom of the pan not allowing fluid to get through the tranny? The answer is yes !!! Pulled the pan and laid the filter in it to check the clearance and sure enough the pickup tube was too long. Cut half an inch off the pickup tube and wala !!! Transmission is working like it should!!! I used to be a Ford tech years ago. Started wit Ed Mullinax Ford in 1979 and became an automotive instructor in 1994. I’ll be retiring in 2023 but not from fixing my own vehicles if I can help it. Thanks for all of your great videos !!! God bless you and have a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year !!!
You must of installed an FT-171 filter on accident.
I had a similar issue and have been scratching my head. I'll try the same thing. Hopefully it works!
@@zachhill96 did you figure it out? I recently installed this and my car will just rev it doesn’t move.
Just took my 2012 into the dealership for the second time. Again they just tried to flash the ECM and gave me a runaround again. Of course the molded lead frame is on back order. Like 6 months. So I will have to wait 6 months to do it myself with your guidance. Thank you sir.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have a bad Transmission Range Sensor and this video gave me all the confidence in the world that I can do this myself and save a lot of $$. Stealership is wanting $600 for just labor. Subscribed.
They asked 1700to 1850 to do this job! To crazy behind my wallet!!
My trucks throwing codes for intermittent transmission range sensor. It will randomly shift erratic and the guages will go crazy where the gear selector is. Does this sound like your issues? What did you replace to fix it?
Mine is throwing code P0741. Transmission shift solenoid.
Saved me a fortune!! One of the best how to videos I have seen, thanks
Congrats! 👍. Attempting this tomorrow, should I disconnect the negative battery cable first?
Seems like these lead frames are going out everywhere. All the ford dealers near me are out of stock. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Yeah I'm in the same boat, been looking around to buy that part 😤
Outstanding video. Ford had a recall on these in March 2019. My supervisor’s daughter brought in her 2012 or 2013 F-150 for the repair and that lasted for about 9 months. Then it wouldn’t shift out of 1st and the speedometer was showing 0 mph. I did a transmission fluid and filter change in early December 2019 and everything was fine; however, this issue recently reappeared a couple of weeks ago. A friend of mine suggested the lead frame or frame lead whichever it’s called and I immediately looked to see if you did a video on it and thankfully you have. I’m an old school mechanic but your videos makes it easier for us old timers to stay up to speed.
Yeah there was a couple recalls in 2016 and 2019.
Ford Engineers: "We've got a new 6R80 transmission that doesn't use friction bands or servos!"
Accounting Mgmt: "So simpler construction? Great - less cost and more profit for us! Any issues?"
Ford Engineers: "Well, the vehicle may drop out of 6th gear at 60 mph to 1st gear, destroying the trans and possibility over-revving the engine, destroying it too."
Accounting Mgmt: "No problem - we can blame the consumer for not performing regular fluid changes like we did with the DCT trans - NEXT!"
BTW - great video Brian! Clear and concise - you made it look easy enough for any shade-tree mechanic to perform. Cheers!
It’s ZF trans By VW
Life Saver!
Ford bailed out on my requests for fair treatment! I never got the letter and had been having the issue for over a year and a half! None of the mechanics could figure it out, then I viewed your video! BAM, fixed it myself, no thanks to Ford!
I had to do a service to one of these recently..as our shop has a machine with a powered vacuum hose...I removed the 19MM plug for the fill hole and just sucked out all the fluid before dropping the pan...real clean job at that point!
Best tip yet
THATS A GREAT IDEA PLUS YOU WOULD EXACTLY HOW MUCH FLUID TO PUT BACK IN
This is a very informative video. I ordered all of the parts recommended. Everything arrived on schedule without issues, except the main part, the molded lead frame. I waited 27 days for this part and the seller cancelled on delivery day with no explanation. I found a reputable company that has the original Motorcraft part that ships in 3 days. Hopefully I can get my money back!
Absolutely awesome the quality of content is unbeatable on this channel 👍.
You are the best. Watch your videos all the time. Brothers truck decided to give up right before vacation. Swapped out the lead frame and was back in good shape. Thank you, k
My buddy owns a transmission shop he’s a top notch builder. It’s interesting about solenoid shifted transmissions and how reliant they are on other sensors for proper operation. Even large trucks have this style of shifted transmission and anything you ad on that requires action while moving, for example sanders or plows, such as on dump trucks, requires seamless electronic signals to operate properly. Ford is a popular chassis for many things like fire trucks, again example mini pumpers or brush rigs, Ford proprietary electronics are a tough system for aftermarket electronic systems to work with water pumps and other equipment need to communicate with the PCM and transmission sensors. manufacturers are challenged with making electronics that work with Fords.
Hello, is your friend's transmission shop in Florida?
I personally want to thank you for this video and all the information and support that you have provided. I ordered all the parts and my son and I replaced my lead frame and the other parts you have suggested to do. It was a breeze to do because of you. I ordered through you on Amazon. Thank you so much
Thank you sooo much for making this and all of your videos. You are truly talented and create some of the best content I've seen on youtube! I don't know how you do these types of repairs AND do such a great job filming and explaining everything that you are doing.
I am so glad you made this video. I have a 2013 F-150 and was about to change my trans fluid and filter. I have been avoiding the recall deal with them reprogramming the software because I read about the issues with the mold lead frame thing and knew that the reprogramming was a bandaid fix. I have had zero problems with my trans ( knock on wood) but would like to do everything you just did in this video as preventative maintenance.
Where are you located and what would you charge for the service that you just did in the video? Seriously I will drive to you to get it done by YOU. I do not trust the dealership in the least bit, and I don't think I want to do this laying on my back in the driveway.
Again, thanks for all your videos, I have learned so much. Been watching for a while.
Please let me know about the service.
Thanks! your video helped a ton and is very detailed. We just did this repair in about 2 and half hours. 2015 Ford F-150 V8
Nice!
@@FordTechMakuloco I’m about to do this but before I did I called a couple shops and some told me I have to program the new valve body and lead frame going in, is that right
Did you have to do any programming to the new valve body and lead frame
No programming on the lead frame.
@@CALCOBRA94what about new valve body?
Your videos are some of the very best on TH-cam and this one doesn't disappoint. Thanks for the extra effort you put in to making such high quality videos.
dude this video is top notch. this has certainly given me the confidence to do it on my own without half-assing it as i usually do!
This is the kind of job where a lift is your best friend!
followed this video for 2012 Mustang 6V 6R80 and Mustang is now running great. No more random RPM revs or hard shifting. Awesome video - thanks
This is the only thing that has failed in my 2012 Expedition in 108K miles. Ford fixed it under warranty via a recall; great service at the dealer near my house!
Robert Cope were do you live? Where I live you would be better off taking your car to Walmart.
@@kylekirchner1163 I'm in Houston. I was surprised, as well, but the experience at the dealer was fantastic, particularly given that I had never set foot in the place before in my life. Who knows if the quality of the work was great, but the truck hasn't missed a beat since getting it back.
I've never worked on a car before, but watching your videos makes me confident that I could do these repairs.
I love watching this dude he's thorough no bullshit gets to the point and so far if you follow him word for word you'll be fine...knows what he's talking about.... always good videos... just wish he'd stated the cost for the parts usually....or I may of just missed it
My only hope now is that the Ford mechanic is as knowledgeable and though as this video. There is plenty that can be missed or not checked during reassembly. Great, descriptive video.
I'm very able, but if not, I'd drive all the way from CA to have YOU service my Mustang ;-)
Like others have said, this is the MOST detailed and complete repair video i have EVER seen. Excellent work!! I am hearing this is now is an official recall, though being a second owner of my 2014 STX, I will likely never get the letter for the recall, and will have to hassle them endlessly to get it done. My truck is actually at a dealer right now, so I may request that they do the recall while it's there. It went in for a/c not fully functioning, engine overheating, and auxillary fan not coming on.
And after reading up on it, they're only doing a software patch, and not the actual repair.. That's just awesome....
Hi, where to find the recall info? Is it for 2011 f150s?
you make that draining look easy, my driveway looks like a massacre happened
🤣🤣🤣
Wow!! What a great video!! You gave my daughter and I the confidence to fix her transmission and save 1500 bucks. You’re awesome!! Thank you!!!
You beat Scotty Kilmer to the punch on this. All he can say is “Get a Toyota”.
Both Scotty and this guy are great to watch.
@@pmartinagejr Sorry but you can't put Scotty in the same league as FTM...Kilmer is just not as instructive and thorough.
pmartinagejr Scotty is not a master/specialist like FTM. He is a ‘jack of all’ kinda guy.
Scotty Kilmer needs to be removed from You Tube nothing but BS spews from his pie hole.
@@xoxo2008oxox l absolutely agree. Mukalo is a Master Mechanic and has great instructional videos. Scotty is more of an opinion guy but is certainly entertaining
Excellent video. Just changed out the molded lead frame on my 2013 F-150 follow this. Spot on! Thank you for what you do!
Another home run, on this trans service repair.
I think this is what’s going to be needed to fix my shifting issues. Sometimes my truck gets hung in first gear and sometimes it’ll get hung in third gear. Thanks. There is a Ford specialty shop near my house and I think I’m gonna take it there.
THANKS for the great video, My 6R80 harshly shifts from 1 - 2, and also 2 back to 1 i dont think my 2011 trans was ever upgraded... would replacing my lead frame as you did help mine, thanks again
@Spiro Flying @FordTechMakuloko I would like to know this as well as I have the same issue!
great video. Just completed my daughters 2012 Mustang and this video was perfect. It addressed everything that a person needs to know to successfully do this job. Thanks!
Brian, you always make it look easy. The sign of a real pro!
?: Why do manufacturers avoid a drain plug on the transmission pan?
Sealed for life.
It ensures it hits its target life of 60K miles in this vehicle (warranty duration) and then explodes shortly thereafter. Same with differentials and many other components.
@@Squat5000 100% correct because there is no other way to swap out the trans fluid.
Thanks a million for this video! Saved me a lot of cash! Haven't put a bunch of miles on it yet but so far, no P0720 or limp mode. Thanks again!
How can you tell if this repair has been done to my f150 ?
Thank you for this video!!! Just replaced my lead frame last night and your video was perfect. You saved me so much time and money.
This is a great video! Thank you for all the amazing videos you provide. I just purchased a 2015 Expedition. It has 100k miles on it. I am planning on dropping the pan for the filter and fluid change. Are you saying this service should be done as a standard on every 6R80 transmission if it has not been done? I have not gone this far into a transmission before so it would be my first time. If I am dropping the pan I might as well do this if it is recommended.
I owned a 2011 expedition el and ordered all the parts associated to the issue, I am now calling Ford if it's needed but I will replace it just for the heck of it.
You're awesome. Going to do this repair soon. Got a no start on the truck a few days a go and was reading forums on what it could be. This sounds like the culprit.
If im getting a 2-3 jerk but only on 2-3 would that be a shitty solenoid? it doesn't jerk if i'm stepping on it and getting the rpms up in the 2.5-3k range or higher, but will jerk hard at slower accelerations and deceleration but not always. filter and fluid was replaced few thousand miles ago to fix a leak. it was all oem ZF fluid and filter. could the leak have damaged a single solenoid but none of the others?
Hi Fishfind3000 ,I have the same problem on 2nd to 3rd gearchange, only on that one ,the other gears change smoothly . Same as you with no issue when under hard acceleration. Thought it was solenoids A and D ,and recently changed them with no benefit at all. Will pull it apart again and replace solenoids B and C to see if any improvement .Will let you know results . Martin
Any results? My truck is throwing code P0741. Transmission shift solenoid…
If you do exactly what this guy says you should have no problem doing this yourself. My speed sensor went out in the lead frame on my 2013 F 150 at 207,000 miles. I did exactly exactly what he said and replaced the bulkhead sleeve the foam piece and bypass block while replacing the lead frame and had no troubles after getting it back together. I was a little worried about putting new transmission fluid in because I've seen videos that says if the transmission has a lot of miles on it don't change the fluid but I wasn't going to put the old fluid back in and my transmission works fine. I did have very minimal shavings in the pan but nothing serious. For the lead frame bulkhead sleeve the foam piece and bypass block and transmission fluid it run around $350.00. Took me a little over 2 hours but I was taking my time to make sure I didn't miss anything. I got the foam piece at the ford dealership and he said he couldn't find one for a 2013. I told him to look under a 2015 and that's where he found it. I did this 6 months ago and it still works fine.
This design looks very similar to the ZF 6HP19 in my BMW. There must have been some collaboration with ZF?
yup
Very well presented! The close-ups of the work area, the procedure details, and the technical information were of great help to perform this operation seamlessly. By the way, I have a paralyzed right arm and this video gave me all the necessary knowledge to complete this repair. Thank you and keep on posting.
And this is supposed to be a better idea. What does it take these days with all of our technology to get a simple, tough, long life mechanical component. Its ridiculous !!! Develop a simple brute of a transmission without all the silly gimmicky stuff and leave it alone. Why change it every few years, its just a transmission. Why do we as consumers have to keep paying for their stupid, impractical, incredibly poor designs ???
THE NEW TRANSMISSIONS ARE WAY MORE EFFICIENT THAN THE OLD BAND OPERATED TRANS, THE NEW SOLENOID OPERATED TRANSMISSIONS VERY CLEAN FLUID . FOLLOW BRIANS RECOMMENDED CHANGE INTERVALS AND YOUR TRANSMISSION WILL LAST LONGER
Uhhh money that's why
So they get better fuel economy and shift smoother.
Top-notch video! Thanks for posting. I will be doing this very service on my truck as soon as the weather turns nice. Thanks to this video, I think the job will be super easy.
Master of master fantastic video.
Great video. 30 years as a mechanic, first time I had to deal with this issue on a 2013 Ford F150. You are spot on! Replaced lead frame and the truck back on the road. Thanks for the information!
where did you find the part? dealers are out of stock
@@fluevano1204 we waited for 4 weeks for it. I think my work ended up buying it from another dealer. A stock order came in and they had 1 extra.
Had anyone had issues after all the fluid change I'm at 155k and currently getting fixed. Just curious if I need to worry about anything after
Did you have to program the module when replacing?
@@mattmorgan5370 I did not.
All this is easier if you turn the vehicle upside down.
Customer wanted the french fries left under the seats though or else he...
😂 Can you please make a video showing me how to do that safely? 😊
Thank you for the video. I just knocked it out yesterday. Man without a lift you really work out them neck muscles
Too many electronics in vehicles. When they work, they work, but when they don’t, a program cannot dismiss a simple fault to keep you from having a catastrophic accident.
Thank you for the video, done mine in about 3 hrs longer for it to drain and put fluid back in it than it does to change to change the lead frame
This looks like the 6 speed ZF's used in bmw/Audi's.
It's based off the ZF design yes.
I bet they work together on them or zf builds them with fords designs or vis versa.
18:20 that yellow part with 2 squares is a part that was replaced on my zf 6hp19 when I did a trans flush and replaced all the seals as well as that connector seal. that one was leaking on mine. there is a strong resemblance to zf
@@FishFind3000 They licence the design and intellectual property. Then they can build it and save a few pennies :). I think some Fords had the real ZF in some cars.
alb12345672 makes sense
100% recommend this video!!!! Just finished up on my 2017 F250 6.2L that has a 6R100 nearly identical except for mine, has a heat shield over the main harness connector and I have a dipstick tube. Great video and step by step work through. Thanks a ton!
Dear God...talk about poor designs that could lead to a tragedy.this electronic stuff has gone way too far.
Not much common sense in automotive engineering anymore.
@@oldschool9746 hasn't been in decades.
all driven by the need to meet fleet emissions and fuel mileage standards. the standards have outpaced the technology
Thats alot of hype the pcm has a strategy to keep it from going into 1st. It uses wheel speed sensors and will throw an oss code. It may go into first at low speed but it will never go into 1st at 60mph.
I followed this video and performed the repair myself. $300 in parts sure is better than $1,400.00 at Ford. 250 miles driven so far. All is good.
I was just quoted $1900
Thank you for this detailed guide. I probably wouldn’t have attempted this repair without it. Your video work is very good too. Thanks!!
I own a 2013 ford F150 5.0. Followed this video to the T and it solved my problems. Thank you so much.
This video is perfect! Thank you for taking the time to create such a detailed instructional video. I followed and the trucks runs great now! 😀
