Considering Principal Photography for DUNE took place in 2019, if Denis sticks to this general schedule it will be roughly 7 years between the shooting of the First & Final films. While not the full 12 years I feel like this is enough of a gap to show Timothee as an age-appropriate Paul (30), especially considering Timothee will be the same age in 2026.
It will be interesting though because it was more 14+ years in the book. Them changing it from 2 ish years to less than 8 months since Alia wasn't born in the 2nd film should be pretty interesting. @@confusionthe2nd51I was gonna say. We’re dealing with the repercussions of the jihad in messiah. The only imagery we get of the jihad first hand is when the death commando is reflecting on the purposelessness and eventual liberation him and many of his peers felt after encountering a vast sea shortly after conquering a planet. Honestly I rlly hope they include it as it’s one of my favourite scenes in the novels.
the challenge is - how to make a boring book into a block buster film. I suspect we will see much more of Jihad war, much more Chani/Zandea then in the book, but I'm ok with that. Paul will walk into desert (preferably at sunset) and the things will be set up for Leto the II. Other then that? bonus.
@@DDR131it’s gonna end just like the book. There is no point in changing it, Messiahs ending is already perfect and will be extremely “cinematic” on the big screen.
I do think DV will leave an ending that could then be picked up by another filmmaker with a new cast years from now for a "Children of Dune" film or even whole other trilogy. I think Part 3 opens with the galaxy wide Jihad and the climax of that war ends Act 1. Then a time-jump to when Paul has been Emperor for 10-15 years for the rest of the film which will pull from Messiah, but also wrap up the Paul/Chani storyline well. Part 2 was a great War film. I'm excited to see something more focused on political intrigue and shifting allegiances.
Great films are great when they take there time I just Hope Jason Momoa Returns as Ghola Duncan Idaho aka Hayt from the Books Alia being at her present age from the visions confirms it kinda.
That's a spoiler bruh. But yeah Jason should be coming back. Duncan is an enduring figure through God Emperor......and the abomination books Hunter and Sandworms of Dune.
That is a story arc that really jumped out to me on my recent re-reading of the book. I think it could be an excellent focus of the movie. True character development there!

Messaiah was not my favourite among the sequels but I always thought it felt the most "cinematic". Very excited to see some stoneburner action. Hopefully the film gets the time it needs for a great adaptation, and isnt rushed to capitalize on the first 2 films.
I think he’s going to lean heavily on the jihad and the internal Fremen struggle between the faction that idolizes him and wants the green paradise and the hardliners that long for the before times and are against Paul. In the book the corinno family exploits this faction along with the Tleilaxu.
Would like to see it stay more faithful to the book this time them leaving out the time jump in the second one really hurt that story especially how Chani was portrayed was shocking more than anything

It’ll be interesting to see what he does with Messiah - there were some things I didn’t like about part two, it left out things it shouldn’t have but this could always be included in Messiah. I just hope it doesn’t become a case of Denis or the the higher ups getting too cocky and 'putting their own spin on the novel' I f***ing hate when they start doing that, that’s when things start to go downhill. But we’ve yet to see what will happen. I’m just trying to be optimistic in a world where blockbusters are just not good anymore
“Conclusion to the Atreides saga? What are you talking about? Children of Dune Shifts the focus to Paul’s children and Alia, and STILL features Paul in the Anti-Hero role of the Preacher. Then the story makes a GIANT shift in God Emperor, Heretics, and Chapter House. Children of Dune is far more interesting than Messiah in my opinion. Still waiting to see if anyone can ever make the leap to putting God Emperor on the screen. A bit too esoteric for most, so I’m not holding too much hope.
I think the first Act will have a lot of big action, but I'm excited for DV's take on the Messiah political machinations. If there was ever a time for more cinematic commentary on politics and power struggle within a "royal court", now would be it!
except for Alia there is absolutely no worries about aging of the characters as they are all deeply addicted to the geriatric spice which confers long life and great health on it's users! That means, as stated in the books, the spice allows it's users to live longer without showing normal aging, so no worries at all if no one has appreciably aged due to their spice afdiction! Do no worries for anyone! In the book it mentions tha by Children of Dune Paul had been aged some what by the desset as his eyes show "sand tracks" or those squint wrinkles at the eye corners that aging and dessert living confur, so that's it, the whole aging problem solved, Herbert made it non issue!
Agreed. I enjoyed it much more. I am actually finding COD a bit more of a challenge to get through - not sure why. I think there is enough rich material in DM to mine for decent film.
There is a lot of spin off material they can cover over Leto II especially during his 3,000 year long reign. This could make for an interesting anthology show.
Nice! Something to look forward to. Such a vacuum of anything to get and feel excited for as a sci-fi/fantasy fan. Say what you will of them now...In the 2000-teens it was a lot of fun and exciting to have marvel, DC, GOT, star wars content to look forward to. I am a fan of going to the movies...kind of a dying breed these days.
I’m probably more excited for this movie than any other project I can think of that’s on the horizon. That said, I really don’t think this project is going to be much of an adaptation of “Messiah”, I think it will likely be much more of Denis’ ideas than Frank’s and will be better thought of as “Part Three” given how different all the pieces are at the ending of Part Two going forward. Messiah is a much weirder story with much weirder characters than the first book and as much as I love Denis’ interpretation of Herbert’s work, he definitely sidestepped a lot of the weirder elements of the first book in the name of grounding the tone of the film in a certain kind of realism (which is fine). I don’t see the guy who shied away from presenting a toddler reverend mother on screen as being the guy giving us mutant fish-men floating in tanks of spice gas and shape shifting tech-gods. Hell, I’m not even sure Momoa is going to make his return as a zombified clone mentat of Duncan Idaho as even that might be too exotic for Denis. Plus, making Chani the avatar for Paul’s conflict and leaving him at the end of Part Two completely changes the setting for a third movie than where the character pieces lay going into Messiah. Again, I’m very excited for this project as I think Denis has enough strong ideas of his own, and I’m totally speculating, but I think Denis will be going off on his own path from here on out with maybe some loose thematic ideas from Messiah (free will/agency and the price of purpose), but that’s about it. I think we’re going to get much more of an original story set in the world of Dune with a lot of the familiar characters we know from this world.
@@thegercast4794 Imo not everything has to be explicitly shown. Those two moments, for instance, are fantastic because of what they don't show, it increases tension exponentially. Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, these are just my thoughts on it.
I personally interpret Villeneuves‘ words a bit differently. In my opinion, he sounds like Dune Messiah won’t necessarily be his next project. Even when he says he will „go back behind the camera sooner than he thought“, he doesn’t specifically refer to Dune. To start shooting 2 years after the previous movie is common for a Hollywood director of his caliber, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t squeeze a small scale project in between.
@@AnthonyRomero-w8uwith someone like Zendaya portraying her there’s no way that’ll happen, unfortunately. Chani became a deeply insufferable character the last act of part two. I just hope they don’t continue to push the stronk independent wahman bullshit any further in messiah 😒🙄
@@gagalover2k10mfs when women have agency in a film. I do agree that what they did with chani will likely have negative consequences in messiah but it wasn’t a needless sacrifice. Through messiah we are shown that the fremen weren’t completely blinded by fervour and compelled by blind faith to Paul. Instead they followed where their fremen companions went. If a majority want to lead a galactic jihad then they will follow. This was shown with chani. I am irritated at how she just up and left at the end but other than that I thought the change was good. If they choose some nameless fremen to be unbending to Paul it wouldn’t be the same. I’m very sorry this movie didn’t pander to you and notions on women.
For Alia there is a big big difference between 12 yrs old and 16. Also Chani riding off into the desert will probably be overlooked as well. But we'll have more worms!!! Yey, Chani must have brought them back with her. I think Denis dug a few plot holes for himself in the first 2 movies which means he didn't really plan on making the 3rd, but here we are.
Well, the time jump of 12 years is perfect for Chalamet, since he will be 30 by the time of shooting, and that's more or less the age of Paul Atreides in Messiah. Let's hope the series gets to be a hit among general audiences, so people are already into the politics of Dune by the time the movie gets released, because the 3rd book is not precisely action packed
I did not like what Villeneuve did to the Chani character. It is opposite to the loyal loving character in the book. I do not look forward to Dune Messiah which will undoubtedly be a lush visual spectacle but not Dune as Herbert wrote the story. Bad judgement on V's part.
Actually, I thought that Chani's change was brilliant. Herbert struggled to make an anti-hero, while still being stuck in using the usual heroic tropes of his time. Nobody, including the 14 and 24 year old me got the actual warning about charismatic leaders that Dune, the book, was supposed to give me. Because Paul acted too heroic, and too much evil-doing was handed off to other characters. To make Paul turn to the dark side, hard uncomfortable choices had to be set up. HE chose to stab the Barron in the throat, FIRST, because "he believes in revenge". HE had to choose between a Fremen life with Chani and POWER. HE chose power, and relished the humiliation of the Emperor. I suspect we've already seen the stabbing Paul's going to get from Chani in return for that betrayal. Chani also gets to do, in the final scene of part 2, what any self-respecting woman would do in that situation, which is LEAVE. Herbert was great at world-building, but I think he lacked the life experience to understand real human interactions at a basic level. He was a thinker, not a feeler. Paul's going to have to work to get Chani back, and it shouldn't be easy at all.
It would more lean towards the love story much more then the political intrigue. I think this movie is going to give us most tragic love story ever. Might this be this generation Titanic but more tragic.
Dude, Cleopatra with Zendaya!? That screams massive bomb. Oh boy. Every Cleopatra film bombs. Also why court controversy? Cleopatra was Greek Macedonian. Hopefully that project gets shelved. Lol
Forget UN-FILMable being the Dune Messiah part. The only parts, are, in my view, are coming afterward; when the parts are dying are father Paul and mother Chani, and its son and daughter are the Leto II and Ghanima, granded by the Lady Jessica. So there!!
Also, they should make the time jump at least 15 years because Alia is supposed to be a teen in the midst of her puberty / hormonal changes which affect the way she behaves and act. And I mean, The Ghola Duncan Idaho kisses her etc etc. There are scenes where she's naked and there is a decent amount of focus on her becoming a woman. It's kinda iffy as it is as a 15 year old, having her be 11/12 would be strange and is further confirmation that they aren't adapting the book at all but are going the fan fiction route
@@sandraoliver-poore7860 My bro they generally start at 12 sometimes earlier. That's not the point. A 12 / 13 year old is still a child, a child in puberty. A 15 year old is a true teen. But more than that, you don't want a 13 year old Alia because as I've said a lot of her story revolves around her being at the cusp of womanhood. And all the emotions etc that come with that. I don't want to spoil anything, A 16/18 year old Alia is preferable to a 12 year old, if you're going to have a remotely accurate adaptation.
It would be great if they showed more results of people taking the spice. They do not show us enough scenes in the films,, to let us know what is so great about this fucking spice lol Other than the witches or what happens to Paul. They do not show us what the benefits are for the common person who takes spice. What about those who can to bend or fold space,, for space travel?. Although I personally have a couple issues with the concept of dune. I did enjoy the two movies. In my personal opinion,, It did not dive deep enough into the sci-fi elements. Also, in the first film back in the 80s,, the emperor look like a real Emperor. He was someone who exude power and control. But that is not true in the last dune film. I felt no sense of power from the emperor (played by Christopher Walkens). In the film in the 80s,, they showed what kind of beings can full-space. And travel throughout the universe. But no such thing in the more recent dune films. Although entertaining,, it was kind of interesting,, but missing something. Don’t get me wrong,, I love the last two dune films. Looking forward to the third. But I hope they go for it. Go for the weird and the strange. That exist even within the books.
I think they'll make a condition of Alias condition tgat she ages to ATJ age which is fine. To gain wider appeal he's filtered stuff out so learned from Bladerunner 2049. That said I do hope he brings factions other than Bene Gesserit into focus
No, it’s not confirmed at all. Denis was very careful not to say anything specific in that interview. Deadline chose to spin his words with a clickbait headline, and this TH-camr has chosen to follow suit.
Nothing against Anya Taylor-Joy, but she's too old. Even with an in universe Sipce explanation the age gap is too great. Anya is in her late twenties, Alia is supposed to be early teens (visually late teens?). An upcoming young actress like Raegan Revord would be much more suitable.
I am a very imformed Dune fanatic. I attempted to give Denis Villeneuves version a chance. However, after choking down my contempt for the abhorrent casting choices, i was finally ready to view the movies. Right before pressing play i was going through TH-cam and watched a rundown of the second one. The moment i observed the garbage scene with that pseudo Feyd Rautha ending the Baron. NICE TRY VILLENEUVE, YOU HACK. You pull a thread out of the entire story. Cheap. My gawd, you put Chalamet as Paul, Mamoa as Gurney Halleck?! GURNEY HALLECK!
I wholeheartedly agree. I would rather they made three really really good films and then stopped it than had further films that weren't as good quality and lots of spin offs. Also if they ever did make a movie of God Emperor of Dune it would have to be incredibly intelligently and carefully done. No way would I trust Disney to do that.
The feminist movie agenda continues with the destruction of another male character. Hence the reason for the new underwhelming Dune Trilogy. Dune the main book was a classic, but we really don't need the meh book Dune Messiah story. So much was left out of Dune part 1 and 2.
Oh great, Villeneuve will butcher Messiah like he did Dune. Annnd, Paul is also in Children of Dune so it looks like he is going to fcuk up that well written book too 🙄🙄🙄
From Children of Dune onward, they need to go the streaming show route and spread it over 8-12 episodes per season. But sooner or later you get to the last book and... it's going to have to be HEAVILY edited and have a decent conclusion that Herbert never wrote.
I really wish Villeneuve just left it at this. I loved everything he made before dune 1. I thought dune 1 was pretty good and even better on the second viewing. Dune 2 was good movie but horrible adapation. And the way it ended absolutely ruins any chance of a good Messiah adaptation.
@@DW-bk5nb First of all, Chani is anti Paul. She is pivotal to the story. This also messes up Irulan's story. The Spacing guild is barely mentioned as a faction, chaom etc are barely ever mentionned. Alia hasn't been born, and they are keeping the 12 year time skip which will make Alia a 12 year old instead of a 15 year old teen like in the books (this is important because there is a big emphasis on her becoming a woman and the changes that come with that etc etc) Dune 2 wasn't faithfull enough for the books to have a good Messiah adaptation, no matter what they do the changes will be huge and I don't want a fanfiction messiah, I want the real one.
@EntertainingRunner-vd3bn then don't adapt but make something new inspired by it. Why call it Dune. I'd watch any movie Villeneuve makes. But if you're making Dune. All I want is to see the book on screen. As accurately as possible. Messiah is a brilliant book. But it won't work when Chani is the anti Paul conspirator. It won't work with a 12 year old Alia considering the end and the Ghola. I'm trying not to spoil things. But the way things were left at the end of Dune 2 makes Messiah so different it's fan fiction and not an adaptation
Another round of terrible acting, weak videogame like cinematics, hours of terrible muzak even an elevator wouldn't want, and total lack of consideration for Herbert's masterpiece ... No THANKS ...
Other then that? bonus.
It will be an epic love story. I don't there is another way to adapt that. But I want them to kill Paul Atreides by the end of the third movie.
God Emperor, Heretics and Chapterhouse HAVE to be mini-series. It's the only way to do them justice IMO.
@@DDR131it’s gonna end just like the book. There is no point in changing it, Messiahs ending is already perfect and will be extremely “cinematic” on the big screen.
Just re-read the book. It's anything but boring. It's a series of conspiracies against Paul with all kinds of interesting action and conversation.
Momoa was a terrible casting choice.
@shannonjacobs3635 OK I'll bite......why?
@@rickbase833lol these trolls love shitposting and never replying 😂 I'm sure they'll come back and say The Rock or Jason Statham should've been cast as Idaho 😂
& quite right too! Glad DV made this decision! Can’t wait to see it .
Would like to see it stay more faithful to the book this time them leaving out the time jump in the second one really hurt that story especially how Chani was portrayed was shocking more than anything
I thank you for having the ballz to say this…I also have a huge problem with the “modern girl boss” crap…The story can’t work without her as a mother
@@JH-ks9oisigh. Another turd moaning about everything being "woke" without even knowing what it actually means. Basically you just hate women. How exactly is Chani a girl boss? She makes it clear she doesn't want to go along with Paul's jihad. She gets completely sidelined at the end of the movie and is left heartbroken. She turns her back on her people and goes off alone into the desert. Oh yeh so girl boss. All alone with nothing. Not her lover. Not her people. No-one. Yeh girl power 😂 what an absolute clown you are 😂🤡
I couldn't find this Confirmed anywhere🤔
Would be great if true..Would also love if he made 'Rendevous with Rama' in between seeing as Dune prophecy sounds like its quite a Thematic jump.
Here's the deadline article: deadline.com/2024/10/denis-villeneuve-dune-3-plans-1236119697/
Oh man!!! 2027 is three years from now. I suppose the other reason Denis is taking his time so that his young cast mature facially.
So, us fans need to keep Dune Prophecy ratings up so we get Dune content until 2027 and Im already invested in how D.V.s gonna do the Alia story arc seeing as she'll only be 12 but Aana Taylor Joy???
Cheers Cortex. #Longlivethefighters
As it was written 🙌⚔🙌
Messiah such a complex text, even while being incredibly short. Slightly worried about it.
Nice
It didn't work out well for the Star Wars prequels. The politics.
except for Alia there is absolutely no worries about aging of the characters as they are all deeply addicted to the geriatric spice which confers long life and great health on it's users!
When I first read the books over 40 years ago , I thought dune messiah was boring . Now, that I’m older , I’ve reread it with different eyes
Agreed. I enjoyed it much more. I am actually finding COD a bit more of a challenge to get through - not sure why. I think there is enough rich material in DM to mine for decent film.
It's still boring. Not worthy of a film without adding to the story.
YES!
Alia really messed things up with the timeline.
I hope we get to see more of Caladan

Justice for Alia!
In Denis Villeneuve I trust
it’ll be interesting to see how DV/writers tackle the character of Chani after she departed in Dune 2’s finale 🤔
Just leave her out of it
@@AnthonyRomero-w8uwith someone like Zendaya portraying her there’s no way that’ll happen, unfortunately. Chani became a deeply insufferable character the last act of part two. I just hope they don’t continue to push the stronk independent wahman bullshit any further in messiah 😒🙄
@@gagalover2k10 agreed and now we have dune prophecy: the acolyte season 2🙄😮💨
@@AnthonyRomero-w8u we can only hope it won’t be like that but int this current climate I wouldn’t be surprised if it did turn out like that 😣😮💨
@@gagalover2k10mfs when women have agency in a film.
The spice extends life, so presumably visible aging will be much slower
❤excellent 👌 👏 😊
Well, the time jump of 12 years is perfect for Chalamet, since he will be 30 by the time of shooting, and that's more or less the age of Paul Atreides in Messiah. Let's hope the series gets to be a hit among general audiences, so people are already into the politics of Dune by the time the movie gets released, because the 3rd book is not precisely action packed
His major problem is getting Pau;l and Channi together.
Just get her done!
Want part 3 and 4 so we have enough time get immersed in this world 😅😅😅
How long in 2026 will we have to wait
I wanted him to make Rendez vous with Rama first
He might do it before he does Children of Dune. That might also get split into two movies.
@@mirceazaharia2094villeneuve is not adapting children of dune. He’s stopping at Messiah.
Same, I was kinda pumped to see that first. Who knows, maybe he can crack that out in 2025.
I read somewhere he will do another film next year.
He should take a look at “ Les rois maudits “ from Druon. Great tv series on 7 chapter
Not "sooner than we think",
He said sooner than HE thought. Because he meant to do something inbetween.
It would more lean towards the love story much more then the political intrigue. I think this movie is going to give us most tragic love story ever. Might this be this generation Titanic but more tragic.
And there goes Villeneuve. Fallen to the Cleopatra, the woman that still destroying man's carrers.
Dude, Cleopatra with Zendaya!?
That screams massive bomb. Oh boy.
Every Cleopatra film bombs.
Also why court controversy? Cleopatra was Greek Macedonian. Hopefully that project gets shelved. Lol
Damn, I just kicked my Dune addiction….
2026 feels so long 😭😭
I heavily doubt it will be out in 2026 maybe late 2027 definitely NOT 2026
Forget UN-FILMable being the Dune Messiah part.
It's kinda iffy as it is as a 15 year old, having her be 11/12 would be strange and is further confirmation that they aren't adapting the book at all but are going the fan fiction route
women go through puberty by age 13 now, men take longer.
The preacher if you know you know
It would be great if they showed more results of people taking the spice.
If they montage the jihad I will be upset
I think they'll make a condition of Alias condition tgat she ages to ATJ age which is fine. To gain wider appeal he's filtered stuff out so learned from Bladerunner 2049.
That said I do hope he brings factions other than Bene Gesserit into focus
Fortunately, the Spice Melange has anti-aging effects to avoid contradictions🌈😍.

No, it’s not confirmed at all. Denis was very careful not to say anything specific in that interview. Deadline chose to spin his words with a clickbait headline, and this TH-camr has chosen to follow suit.
Scytale!
I hope they take a break before the God Emperor.
Lawrence of Arabia in space mate
The "more worms" comment sounds like a troll
Please don’t let Disney get their hands on this.
Blah blah blah blah who’s the mother of Paul’s children blah blah blah Who cares we want another movie blah blah blah

What makes you say messiah can’t be good
@@DW-bk5nb First of all, Chani is anti Paul.
I think peoppe fail to consider that Denis Villanueve is trying to bring home Herbert's points, not necessarily tell the same story.
You want to see the book on screen? It would take 5 movies just for the first book. That's why changes need to be made. People should understand that.
I don't want his next Film to be dune 3 I want it to be Randevous with Rama.
Another round of terrible acting, weak videogame like cinematics, hours of terrible muzak even an elevator wouldn't want, and total lack of consideration for Herbert's masterpiece ... No THANKS ...
