If you're planning on building boxes in OR to send to WA, Bend is a great option to take a zero or double zero. Whole Foods, Safeway, WinCo, Trader Joes, Grocery Outlet, and various small health food stores. You can probably do all of your WA boxes from there with no worries at all. (I am guessing you already know that lol, but just for anyone seeing this)
A huge thank you for all that information. Living with celiac, dreaming of a thru hike and not knowing where to begin my "food planning", that video is a game changer for me. (sorry for my english, I am french canadian)
As a future PCT hiker currently planning my resupply, this video, and spreadsheet have been so helpful- thank you! Now that you've made it through, I'd love to hear your review of this strategy and what you'd do again vs what you'd change!
Great video and thank you so much for sharing the spreadsheet and your references. Appreciated 🙂 I did smile though at your comment in Electrolyte section about “don’t try new foods/electrolytes on the trail”, because whilst I totally agree with this as I’m a runner, I’ll be coming from the UK so ALL the foods you showed are new to me & will be different (from past experience visiting the US)😂 But I’m looking forward to it next year ❤🎉🇺🇸
To complete back to back 30ish miles and film like you have done is awesome. Your whioe PCT series is amazing. Your long Tehachapi to Kennedy Meadows section was inspiring. Thank you Arielle, you rock!
Another fantastic resource on TH-cam for doing a diet-specific resupply is Mary's Outdoor Adventures (Mary Mansfield) - she is vegan and did the whole PCT keeping vegan, and made a really REALLY comprehensive video documenting the town options and where she chose to resupply with boxes, and why.
Hello there, just atch Ms Ash O'Brien s video and she referenced you for more info. This is great. I'll now start watching your PCT adventure and channel. Many thanks
Wow ! What a fantastic job you have done. You will be the first to complete the CDT without damaging your health permanently. I have been following your hike, and you are half way done. There is definitely a difference in your energy levels and mental attitude to other thru hikers at the same number of miles. Now I understand why. Thanks.
So sweet of you to share this... and also make a video showing people how to fill it out. You're a rockstar. Have fun on trail. Looking forward to following...
A week away! Can’t believe it is finally here! This adventure is going to hopefully be an amazing experience. Looking forward to seeing the trail from your perspective! 😊
Arielle, your spreadsheet is amazing; love the detail! It it SUPER valuable! You totally rock! I did a section hike a few weeks ago, WA section J, with a couple of my kids. It, too, was amazing! We met lots of nobo and sobo thru hikers and were totally inspired. At minimum I want to do more sections of the PCT and I'm sure I'll use your incredible spreadsheet! Thanks!
A tip that I collected along the way for items in their original package is to poke a tiny hole (needle), let the air out, and then tape over the hole. Helps pack down smaller. Just don't do it with items that will crush, like chips. Thanks, Arielle, for nerding out with us. I love planning and prepping for adventures!
Awesome organization and food choices. Thank you for sharing your approach. There's so many ways to approach it and as someone that also has dietary restrictions I appreciate the attention you've paid to it. I hope you'll be vlogging from trail! Best wishes for an amazing adventure! 🌻💛
doing the American discovery trail then hitting pct up needed more structure to my set up this vid and spread sheet set up really helps love the setup.
wonderful! Food and spreadsheets- 2 of my favorite things. granola is my favorite trail breakfast. I mix vanilla protien poweder with water for my "milk"
This is awesome! Ive been looking for a video like this! Im doing it next year and I need to eat a bit healthy aswell. Great video, Best regards from Sweden
Great video! Thanks for the info. I live in San Diego , hiking along the PCT during this time is exciting seeing all the PCTers. I’m would love to pull the trigger and quit my job to do the PCT. Best of luck!
Great video. Worth knowing that in most resupply locations in California and trail town restaurants you shouldn’t have much trouble finding gluten free
Thank you so much! And that’s great to know. I’m so grateful for how much easier it’s gotten over the years to find stuff out and about that’s gluten free. Especially baked goods haha I’ll always have a weakness for a good brownie 🤤
Wow! Thank you so much, this video is invaluable to me! We're planning on hiking the PCT in about 2yrs time (we're still saving). I'm definitely saving this video and links. Thank you so much!! I (also) need to learn how to use Excel... #OldPeopleProblems. 😂
This was me using my finance degree for the first time since I graduated like 10 years ago 😂 i knew all those accounting classes would help eventually lol
Did the towns where you planned to buy food meet your expectations/needs? Are there any more where you could have bought food than the ones you initially planned? Didn't see you address this specifically in your Q&As so thought I would ask! I have celiac and am planning a pct thru myself Also, do you regret the number of boxes you sent? Did you like or dislike eating the same food the whole trail?
Love this!!! Few questions… 1. Where did you purchase the bulk dried food ingredients? 2. I actually found you through a doTERRA video, will you post what your oils kit looks like that you are bringing? 3. Why did you decide not to bring the sweet potatoes out of curiousity? Thanks!
1. North bay trading co for the freeze dried stuff 2. Yes! Next weeks video will go over everything that I’m bringing so you will see in that one and then I’ll share throughout the trail how i use everything. Love my oils!! 3. I got real with myself about what I crave when I’m doing big days. I love eating healthy but i needed something that packs more of a caloric punch and sounds yummy when it’s super hot out. It can be hard to think of how different you feel eating from home than out on the trail 🤪
"Estimated ETA" 😬 ATM Machine! 😋 Planning one of the big through-hikes should be transferrable as college credit in Logistics or something. Good on the resume or interview anecdote at least!
Probably too late for this adventure, but for the future you should think about freeze drying your own food. Then you can have everything you want to your own specifications. 👍
100%! It was something i had hoped to do for this trip but with grad school and work I just didn’t end up having time. Next big adventure for sure though! I’m excited to get som inspo out in the trail! ☺️
Just watching this video. Do you have a template or help with the equation in all of the boxes? I’m nerdy and would love to do a resupply template like you’ve done but I’m not a pro at Excel.
I do! I’m not sure if you’ve had a chance to watch the whole video yet but there’s a template in the description and a section in this video where I walk you through filling it out and personalizing it ☺️
Would you be comfortable sharing your approximate budget for all the food/supps in this video that you're putting in boxes? The Athletic Greens alone is a pretty penny lol
I’m not sure exactly but probably about $600 a month (ish) for food overall (including my budget for food in town). Living in Colorado it’s pretty comparable to what I spend at home but definitely could be done more frugally than me haha

Love that your husband is so supportive and helpful in helping you complete your dreams
Aw thank you! So grateful for him 🥰

I have Celiac and am hitting the trail in late April. Thanks for making this video, it's just what I need right now.
This is totally how I think, love the spread sheet concept. This is how I will plan my multi-day hikes. Thank you so much.
Of course!! It helps my brain so much to see it all laid out like this 🤪
Another fantastic resource on TH-cam for doing a diet-specific resupply is Mary's Outdoor Adventures (Mary Mansfield) - she is vegan and did the whole PCT keeping vegan, and made a really REALLY comprehensive video documenting the town options and where she chose to resupply with boxes, and why.
P.S. her "POST PCT" playlist is a gold mine.
I watched her as well, she was and is, amazing. Her cheery "good morning" still rings in my ears when I watch the beginning of peoples videos!

Love this video - great info! I'm a spreadsheet nerd too and will definitely reference this when I start planning my thru-hike in a few years!

Food & organizing - 2 of my favourite things! What a fun project. Happy trails 💕
Thank you 🥰🥰

granola is my favorite trail breakfast. I mix vanilla protien poweder with water for my "milk"
Such a good idea! I have a bunch of vanilla protein at home i could have my hubs include later down trail. Thanks for the tip!!
Super helpful ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Yay I'm so glad! ❤️
Wow!

heyyyy love the videos! just curious how often to park ragers ask for to see your long distance permit o the PCT?
I haven’t been asked to show it yet but I’ve heard they ask in Kennedy meadows
Love that spreadsheet! Is it possible to give a link to it that is shareable - as in that we're able to make a copy of it ourselves?

Hahaha right? I actually have my undergrad degree in finance. Finally putting that to good use after 10 years 😂
I am planting my true hike of PCT in 2024 and Wonder what Electrolytes you used?

Ah so you used the font Arial - I see what you did there
I didn’t even notice that! Must be an unconscious preference haha
