- In todays video I run CCI's BLAZER BULK 525 through my Custom CZ457. This rifle is sporting the Lilja 21" barrel and Timney 12oz trigger. I also run this ammo though my stock barreled action Tikka T1x in a PDC CUSTOMS chassis. All shooting was done from 50 yards on my private range. Does the Lilja Barreled CZ shoot the Blazer better than the stock Tikka? Watch and find out!

@@user-my5gj4me6q I wouldn’t say top shelf, more like mid shelf. I don’t usually spend more than $15 for 50 rounds. There’s way more expensive stuff than that.
Thanks for doing this Don. Don't know why I spend money on high end gun parts and am so cheap on ammo but that's the way I be. If I spring for $10 bucks a box for ammo I treat it like it was the last ammo available on the planet.

I shot a few solid groups with the Lilja but it’s once in awhile. Nothing consistent, but that’s what I expected Honestly.
Wish and american company would make 22 lr ammo as good as lapua sk or eley...
Oh man, me too. Im in the middle of doing some research on why American .22lr ammunition sucks. From what I can tell so far it has a lot to do with the powder. Euro uses a flake and we use a more inconsistent rod style. But I’ve just scratched the surface.

I've always had decent results with most bulk ammunition, my go to for bulk now is Aguila Super Extra 40g. Pretty reliable and usually you can find it on sale. Thanks again for another informative video.
That’s my favorite for cheap semi-accurate ammo.
Still getting great accuracy from CZ 455 standard rifle, SK Rifle Match. Tested my new Garmin chrono and this ammo returned ave. 1066fps and std dev of 9.5 from 20 shots. Most importantly, one ragged hole at 50 yards. At today's exchange rate I'm paying $7 per box in UK. I think that's better value...
I’d gladly pay $7 per box for SK pretty much anything. Problem is finding it when you need it. I get decent results from almost all SK ammunition. But I like the Long Range for distance shooting, matches and anything I need consistency. I haven’t shot American bulk ammunition in a rifle in years. But a lot of folks were asking for it.

@RimfireSS You've started with what I think is some of the best bulk ammo. You'll be hard-pressed to beat this performance with bulk packs. I have one pistol that prefers Aguila Super Extra 36 gr HP, but everything else I own prefers CCI Blazer. Federal Automatch and Winchester white box are probably numbers two and three, depending on the lot of Automatch you get.
I've never seen a bulk pack of CCI SV, but it is cheap enough and performs on par with Blazer. The same can be said about CCI Subsonic.
I'd like to see what your rigs do with some of the worst stuff, like Winchester Super-X or Federal Blue Box. I've seen the blue box shoot well out of an M&P 15-22, but it has been nothing but trash in my rifles.
@@sapago4166 probably not gonna get to crazy with the crap ammo. Not sure it would hurt my barrel but not sure I want to take the chance. Lol
for the cost...i stopped using 22lh Blazers and just moved into CCI AR-Tactical and 40gr round nose Mini Mags...where i buy ammo, the cost is nominal and the performance is much much better.
CCI Blazer is my go-to ammo for my Sig P 322 semi auto pistol. It doesn't lead the barrel and functions fine. And is cheap and can be bought locally. I once thought Federal HV Match was the best bulk high velocity made then it disappeared from the shelves. The absolute worst bulk hv I have tried is Winchester in a plain white box Wal Mart sells. They have the audacity to label it as target ammunition.
Yeah Winchester labels several different manufacturers with that crap ammo. Lol it works ok in my revolver.

Odd thing I saw was an older case of 50 round boxes of blaser where one of the boxes grouped extremely well in one rifle. I sighted it in for it to use them up. The other boxes in the case did very poorly in the rifle that shot one box good. I tested the rifle with the sk+ it always shot well with and the rifle had no problems with that ammo.
Yeah I tried a 40 grain box and it was crap, shot some out of a bulk 1050 pack and it was crap. It was older ammunition though. This is the problem with Bulk Ammunition. It is not consistent box to box at all.
If you can find some Federal range pack (800) 1200 fps in a purple swirled looking box, it's worth a try. I have seen this stiff shoot fantastic in more than one 22rf

Hello don, I shoot federal auto match in my cz 455, weighed & sorted by rim thickness takes a while but groups are a lot better around half inch, but those pesky flyers 👎
Yeah I’m not weighing anything. Lol what I pull out of the box is what’s getting shot. I’m sure some sorting may get better results. But that’s more than I’m willing to do.

I have a similar experience, I used to buy all the ammo of the same lot I could afford usually 5-10k and I also weighed and measured rim thickness and could typically get atleast one or 2 of my 22s to like them. I have a Clark custom and a Volquartsen 10/22, I also have a CZ 455 evo, and a 452 that had a custom fitted Lilja barrel that was full bore custom and a 1952 Winchester with a 36x Leupold. I can usually find one of them that will shoot it well if I put the time in. Sometimes I would still buy Eley or Lapua when I could find it, because sometimes cheap ammo is almost as good and sometimes it is just ok.
Try the OG CCI Blazer 40gr LRN (load 00021) sometime to compare to the adopted-from-Federal 10022 load in your vid. 2x10 shots, then 7x5 shots. It would be interesting to see what it does once in the 50rnd+ accuracy window like high end ammo, if there is any for the CCI #21 Blazer load.

I live where SK is manufactured and it is difficult to get, plus here in Germany it costs between $80 and $90 per brick. But my CZ 457 MTR loves the stuff. The problem with the cheaper US ammo is the quality control. I once stripped down some cheap ammo, and there was up to four tenths of a grain difference in the powder charge.
Yeah it’s crap. Lol it’s too bad too. We have the factory’s to turn out the numbers but apparently they don’t keep a very close watch on the machines to keep them in tolerance.
Try the Aguila standard velocity! 1130 FPS ! It works pretty good for me!

My factory 10/22 shoots federal auto match pretty consistently at .75 inch groups but my savage fvsr wont even shoot it in a 1 in group. Funny how particular 22s can be.
Ain’t that the truth, definitely the most frustrating aspect of the sport.
Still very new to the precision rimfire game, but in my very limited experience it seems that rimfire ammo is one of those things where you get what you pay for. Bulk ammo shoots like caca, with rare exception. Budget ammo like CCI SV shoots almost, as in man that'd be a great group, but for that one flyer. But it consistently has one or two flyers. So, it's good enough for plinking, but it's not going to be competitive in most types of competition. So, then you step up a price point or two, and then it becomes a question of how much accuracy do you need, or want, to be competitive. For me, shooting rimfire silhouette at 150 and 200 meters, it takes +/- $12 a box ammo to be competitive. My rifle likes SK Standard + at 50 yards, but it falls apart after 100 yards. But if I step up to SK Long Range Match then misses are pretty much on me for either form or a bad wind call. Anything more is wasted, anything less isn't consistent enough to keep me in the top 3. At least, that's what I'm finding so far. More experienced folks may have different results.
I just did the video because people were asking for it, I only shoot bulk in handguns usually.

Try 40 grain Blazer, it’s always a notch better, 40 grain Mini mags too

Speaking of "bulk" ever try the SK Magazine? not really your typical "bulk" ammo.. but i bought a can just to see and was surprised, it shot awesome out on my MTR! right up there with rifle match, standard plus. i know its the stuff that doesn't make the cut to be put in standard plus boxes, maybe i just got lucky...
I’ve heard that stuff is pretty good. Unfortunately not on the shelf anywhere around here. I’ll see if I can order some.
I was shooting a 100-yard informal match and one shot with center X dropped way down about 3 inches . Looked at my chrono and it showed 987 fps compared to 1080. Guess you can get fliers with any ammo, cheap or expensive

I've never tried any of that 38grn, I've only stocked the older 40gn for my rimfire pistols. I don't use it in rifles as it's a bit too dirty. Bulk usually for 10/22 or the lever rifles is CCi SV of which just was priced right and performed a bit better overall and cleaner. A majority of my rifles never get see anything other than SK Redbox and up depending on if it's practice or a Match. Your results looked decent for that I wonder how consistent they are over a 10 box different lot #s. If they showed similar size that would be something to look into, if not then the rifle deserves better.
Yeah I don’t normally shoot this in a rifle at all, well except my Henry shooting steel. I’ll shoot it in my handguns. I’m doing this video at request of a lot of subscribers. I quit shooting bulk 10 plus years ago when I discovered Norma Tac22. It shot so much better at just a cent or two more I never looked back. Now if something were to happen and we couldn’t get that imported ammunition we would have no choice but to use this stuff or something similar.
@@RimfireSS Exactly. When Eley imported their sport line her in the US a few years back and then stopped I bought 12 cases of it 8 sub sonic 4 super sonic. They won't be importing anytime soon again but I'm set for yrs. I also ordered SK + by the case back when T man was in office and it was still cheap and have years of it for practice.
Thank you for the testing. I shoot what I can find cheap for plinking. But for target I like the SK standard plus,, when I can find it. And also the CCI standard ,, I find it very easy to get.
I have some SK high velocity that shoots very good if you want the fast stuff. And it’s reasonably priced.
Your 17" GM should do better. Mine is great. It's a blued version. Guessing yours is stainless.
I am going at the end of the year to the lapua factory and test my guns and buy ammo tested fore my guns

Try the Aguila Super Extra 40 gr. American ammo got worse during and after the plandemic and European is more expensive and harder to find.
I bought some of that at Cabelas the other day. It will be in the test.
The blazer 40grn isn't too bad the bulk blazer 38grn sucks
I shot some 40 grain also in the 50 round boxes but it shot horribly. I guess it’s typical inconsistent CCi.
I've tried this with a Winchester Wildcat. Everything is good for shooting beer cans but nothing will group tight, not even the Eley. I'm sure it's the rifle. Now I have a few thousand plinking rounds.
I’m not expecting much out of this series, but a lot of guys have been asking for it so it will save me money on ammo for awhile. I’m going to do other videos for those who don’t care about bulk ammo
@@RimfireSS I look forward to seeing your test material. It would be interesting to see how rimfire ammo is mass produced, and what makes it come out of the barrel so crazy - vs Eley (the only one I've ordered) that stays semi-consistant.

40 grain shot like poop for me, the 38 is what I shot in the video. Crazy how different this bulk ammo shoots box to box.

You should try Aguila super extra sv, i have a lot that goes over the chrono with an ES of 20 and SD of 5.5, now the shame is i haven gotten to shoot it without wind so i cant confirm if it groups well.

I was surprised with the numbers, I'm curious how it will shoot in my new Kidd build ( used your code) I finally gave up on my summit, it shot great one day and like a shotgun the other day with the same ammo. Now it's just a little lightweight plunker.

I got a classic slip fit receiver and tang. I have a two stage, bolt and charging handle assembly as well as a Kidd bolt. So now I'll have an all Kidd build. Supergrade might be next year

I used to shoot a lot of bulk ammo and would order 5-10k at a time of the same lot and pretty well but I weighed them individually and sorted by weight and rim thickness. I had better luck with auto match and would do the same thing with cci std and aguilla looking for a cheaper way to shoot because I shot a lot. If you have the time and are meticulous you can make it shoot better but it's alot of hassle.

@@fomerbu I tried the Winchester 333 which I think is the same stuff and it was fairly accurate when I could get it to feed into the chamber. Most rounds wouldn’t even chamber.
Never found any bulk ammo worth buying.
I think it depends what your doing with it. Like when I’m shooting steel at 20 yards bulk ammo works just fine.
Hit and miss sometimes, how do you like the ndr mag, got my two last week and can barely get the last two rounds in the dang thing 😩

No, it’s a comp I found online. It weighs nothing and is made out of Some kind of Nylon. I’ll look for the link. It was made for the Tikka T1x and it was cheap. More for looks than anything.
