  • We bent the exhaust valves, do to heat, and my own mistakes. Let's make sure it doesn't happen again and upgrade our exhaust valves with some SuperTech sodium filled exhaust valves.
    I also dive into some serious matters about what's going on in our lives. From Shannon's liver disease, to the kids mom needing a heart transplant.

    I know my last comment was "cant wait to see some numbers" but family and selfcare comes first without a doubt. The cruze will still be there no matter how long it's sitting so take the time for the things that can't or shouldn't wait. I'm pretty sure we all, everyone who's following you on this journey so far would agree on that so don't worry about YT too much. Greatest wishes for you, your family and loved ones from across the pond!

    Nooooooooo. Woke up here, in Australia, Monday morning to a new TH-cam notification. And it's certainly not the video I was expecting. Can see the struggles you're going through, and that's just the small insight we get publically. Family and your health comes first. Projects should be fun, as you said an outlet. It's a lesson learned. If I've learned anything about you it's that you don't give up. Getting a larger home isn't a bad idea given the situation at hand.
    Condensing over head cost on the business is a great idea for cost per unit sold for profit.

    Pardon my question it's mostly out of ignorance but since heat is the issue what about an intercooler? If you lower intake temperature you will lower the exhaust temp. At the same time you optimize ignition an increase power output. I know you are basically blazing a new trail here. It's gotta be a bit frustrating and expensive in both time and money. Anyway I wish you all the best. And I will keep tuning in rooting for you!

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I have a really large intercooler. I just don't think the stock valves are up to the task of how much heat they see, paired with the guides needing a refresh. I'll report back once I get it off and to the machine shop.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The exhaust valves experience the most heat, regardless of location. So my thoughts are they're getting too much and we're designed for that amount of heat. Causing them to expand and seize.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All 8 were bent. I'm a little stumped. I'm guessing it's either an oiling issue, the valves getting hot and tuliping...? Not sure because I've check clearances. It's just like they'll stick open and get bent. None of them had dropped. The pistons have just bent them over. So nothing catastrophic. Well, aside from having to pull the head and correct the issue. The intake side was just fine, but the intake valves are chasing the piston down, vs the piston chasing the exhaust up.

    I'm starting to think these Z18XER engines cannot handle boost. I've never seen someone with such bad luck :(

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  ปีที่แล้ว

      It handles boost just fine. I just keep finding all the weak points, which have been minor set backs. Just more time than anything. First I had overlooked the PCV system. Never boosted anything. Decided to go bigger. With the bigger cams, I personally played with the VVT. So that was my bad. The cheap engine, put a cheap timing belt on that flew apart at 8200 rpm. Should've got a quality belt. Would more than likely still be on the road. These past 2 times, I suspect it's my cheap timing tool. The original one I had that fit snug, couldn't find the second piece. Bought another and it had a lot of play, so the exhaust cam was defiantly advanced. Looking into the tension too. It was from a cheap kit.
      Once I get it back together. I'll take my time with it. Give it some proper break-in miles and then see what'll do.

    Honestly 8000 rpm is spinning the stock crank and valve train way too hard.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was the cheap timing belt after all. Switch to a Gates from Autozone, no issues. It was stretching and eating the belts I've tried. I don't think spinning it that high is much of an issue seeing as it's an OHV flat tappet cam setup with buckets. Similar to the setup of a 2JZ. I also have springs to handle it.
      Here's the same engine, but the 1.6 variant. th-cam.com/video/0lc8WUrt0Dg/w-d-xo.html
