We googled spearfishi g at Gem and saw your video and realized that you two were the guys camped next to us! Small world / and we loved your video! Hope you are having the best weekend at Gem Lakes!
@Romano Mantel Which Lake do you guys reccomend for a buddy and I to fish from a Canoe? Any tips on anything? havent been up north SK for trout fishing before. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
I might need to make a trip over to SK! Here in MB all trout except lakers are off limits. I stick to walleye and crappie mostly but just ordered a new suit to start my season at ice out for lakers! Great videos man, got my sub.
Thanks mate! SK is a great place to spearfish!!! I actually thought that spearfishing in MB was complete illegal… good to hear that at least there are some fish you can shoot. Hope to make a new video over May long weekend! Gonna meet up with my buddy to get some fish!
@@romanomantel7548 that is true for people that are uneducated on fish handling. Seen many fish caught every year live until old age. But yes some don’t make it.
I’m not a fan. Being a fly fisher I practice catch and release. Spear fishing you can’t. I like the footage and appreciate the skill. But unsure of the impact on the fishery.
Spearfishing is a HUGE sport all around the world. It’s just like hunting. You can’t release a deer that you go hunting for either. You shoot to eat. And the whole “catch and release” argument doesn’t hold up in my opinion, as it’s a known fact that about 30% of fish die of the trauma and stress caused to the fish after they released. And given that these lakes are stocked every year with new fish, I’m sure there is no impact at all on the fishery.
@@romanomantel7548 - I’m not disagreeing with the 30% survival rate of catch and release. Does depend upon handling and skill of the angler. Treble vs single hook, barbed vs un-barbed and more. Still 30% is much better than 100%. I’m not against hunting or spearfishing. Just not 100% convinced on the current regulations in Saskatchewan in general being good for the fishery/natural resource. I did browse over suggested changes in regards to angling and spear fishing but the rationale I don’t remember the details well enough to comment.

Only just been there once. That back in October! Would love to go back!
so cool. Here in Nova Scotia it’s illegal to spearfish. Can’t even purchase a speargun

Please dont shoot any brown trout. Kill all the splake
Why? Are browns endangered?
@@romanomantel7548 not many grow big in these small lakes. We enjoy catching them again and again. So much that they get named.
@@tightline29 not to start a debate but catch and release is not the best for them fish either… I heard 25% don’t make it after they’re released.

@@tightline29 I don’t actually think we got any browns! I mostly got Splakes and Tiger. Good to know about the browns though. Thanks mate!
