So cool to see a Granite Stater with a channel and a makerschallenge entry! Really enjoyed the video and your project. It probably helps that I've always liked those cradles, but still. Off to check out more of your videos👍👍
To be fair, metal is usually used because it cannot shatter and injure like stone. This project must be considered strictly for show, since using it safely would require personal protection eyewear and gear.
@@GraniteGuy do you remember the so-called toy back in the early seventies that were to marble like balls on the ends of strings and they were called clackers? Yeah, pretty dangerous, too!
Finished result looks great! Cant help but be bummed that the spheres weren't level with eachother, and your form for getting it clacking could use some work 😂 great work, and loved the video. Also love that you donated it!
Just as on every human project, if I had just a little more time improvements would have been forthcoming. I finished this piece on the day of the auction, really skin of my teeth.
Wasn't easy! The tricky part was spacing the holes so the spheres would hang in just the right places. The setup with the books was all about marking those holes.
Thanks! I chose these rocks simply because they were reddish, but they polished up quite beautifully. I kept the rest very simple so the rocks would pop.
Lots of work at every level.. Choosing stones & then making them equally round.. The rods & the stands were fantastic.. Drilling the rods & inserting the caps on the balls was pains-taking.. Stringing the balls to the rods was fascinating.. They don't do perpetual motion.. , they are Awesome..However
Editing the video down to just a few minutes makes it seem a much easier project. I'm glad all the work is still evident. Thank you for the kind words.
My saw is the cheapest tile saw I could find, blade too. But the maximum sized spheres I can make with it are just over 50mm (2"). To make larger spheres, you'll need a saw with a deeper bite--a trim or specialized lapidary saw.

Very cool project! Not an easy one to pull off but you did. Great job! I need to get one of those sphering machines.
Thank you. When sphering, only a tiny percentage of rocks are the right size for my equipment, eliminating the temptation to take them all!
So wonderful, at first I thought you were making Christmas ball/ ornaments
Surprise!😮
I'm glad you got to see how the cradle worked.
Wow! That is so cool Granite Guy, you did an awesome job and raised money for a good cause, well done.
Yes, I wish I could have kept the cradle, but I had already committed it to the society. And I couldn't afford the $230 that it eventually sold for.
Excellant!
Thank you, Mr. Burns.
Awesome challenge!!👍😎👻🌶
Thank you. I'm really going to have to work hard next year to top it. 🤔

Thank you. I'll admit I was skeptical of your castle when you started, but the finished piece was surprising and fun.

I thought so too. Thanks for checking it out.

Thanks. Glad you could check it out. I also have a soft spot for these cradle toys.
rough rounds in bowl were cool
No bowl in this one, though I know how much you love it. The rough spheres are just on the counter in my shop.
Gorgeous piece, top shelf craftsmanship, and bonus points for your excellent taste in music, good sir.
Thanks. The youtube audio library has some winners.
Cool!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
A new subscriber from the UK 😊.....wow, love it ❤
Howdy! Welcome to NEW Hampshire. 😁

Thank you, glad you stopped by. I was hoping more people could get to see how this turned out.
❤❤❤ how creative! I'm a big Newton's Cradle fan and the rocks make it even better!

Beautiful work. ❤
Those rocks sure did pretty up. Those spheres being on display invites close inspection which increases appreciation.

Thanks. Yes, let's get those numbers up. Please enjoy it two hundred more times!
Amazing work ! Looks Fabulous👍
Thanks. I want to visit the upper peninsula for some sphere material. Your hunts are always awesome, perhaps you'd take me rockhounding?

Thank you. I was also pleased with how it came out.
Absolutely beautiful! I love this unique creation! I have a soft spot for Newtons Cradles and to see one made of stone...😍
Thanks. Those red rocks did turn out real pretty.
Very cool to watch, and the end piece is beautiful.
Thanks for checking it out. It was fun to make.

@@GraniteGuy watch that allready👍
U all do grwat stuff with rocks❤️
Wow.
I was going for astonishment!
impressive for sure i would have paid that just cause its so neat, native minerals that we overlook for their beauty
Yes, not too many people would collect those boring rocks just as specimens. But once they're sphered and polished, they really shine.
They really do!!@@@GraniteGuy
That is so cool.
Hopefully cool enough to subscribe? I'm shooting for 1,000 so I can turn off the ads.

you are getting really good filming and music
This project involved 118 video files! Really testing my editing.
@graniteguy It was an amazing video. I was captivated !!!
Super cool. I love this sooo much. Awsome job.
Awsome ❤
Thanks. Glad you came by to check it out.
I loved this cradle too, but it quickly got out of my price range.

Thanks. I was going for 'nice' so 'really nice' is a high compliment!
Pire talent, pure talent.
Thank you. I can also play the flute!
Amazing!!!!!
Wow, a five exclamation point rating! Nice, thanks.
dope build brother
Thanks, man.
Absolutely amazing and very fun video!!! Thank you so very much!!! It turned out awesome😮!!!!
Thanks. I'm starting to like editing the videos almost as much as getting the rocks.
Oiy...Theo is going to have to work hard to beat this.
Theo is very talented, but I don't think he's doing one this year. In any case, it's not a competition, just fun.
@@GraniteGuy I know,I just like kidding him.
Yes, he is - it comes out on Saturday.
@@tedkellison2598 I thought so, I reckon I can wait that long.
wow didnt realize tiy had thse particulaf machine. Ill benifit somehow:))
Yes, I have a small lathe and mill. If you can dream up anything that's no bigger than a teacup, I can make it in my shop.

Cool!! What kind of table saw n blade is it? I have lots of rocks. I would like to make 3" to 4" globes or sphere. Thanks for the video!

Wow, what is that ball making machine called! Very nice!
It is a "Small Sphering Machine" made by Covington of Idaho. Not the most original name, but certainly descriptive.
@@GraniteGuy 👍🏻
Thank you. ✌✌ to you as well.
