5 Locomotives and Multiple Units that I'd like to see in Train Sim World 4

  • I've noticed that most Train Sim World routes are very safe, as it were, when it comes to the route choice and the types of services on offer. For instance, there's quite a few German routes that follow a boring formula; short to medium-length electrified lines with a generic mix of passenger and freight services. It's not much better on the British and American routes, and don't even get me started on the shocking amount of countries (e.g. Australia, New Zealand and Japan) that still haven't got a route of their own in TSW.
    What I mean is, none of these routes have any truly unique operating practices or motive power, and I think that is slowly spoiling the game. This video is focused on five unique motive power types that I want to see as DLC packages in Train Sim World 4:
    EMD F40PH (the original Amtrak variant)
    Melbourne's Comeng EMU
    Southern Pacific AC-12 or 'Cab Forward'
    Class 91 electric locomotive
    Wellington's FP / FT 'Matangi' class EMU
    Although I forgot to bring it up in the video, I would love to see mountain railways with a rack-and-pinion system in TSW. Examples include SkiTube in Australia and Line C of the Lyon Metro in France, even though they're both electrified.

    Honestly, at this point I’m just putting all of my faith into the fanbase. I’ve already seen some pretty good previews of fan made routes (Per example: Cologne - Dusseldorf) and locomotives/multiple units. I’ve given up all of my hope for DTG to be even slightly competent
    Edit: Or 3rd party devs for that matter. The only one I still have faith in is Just Trains

    I don’t even feel like British or German players deserve to even request at this point. They literally get everything. German routes literally have 7-14 locos in a route British have a new route damn near every month, you see any TSW channel 2/3’s are literally begging to just get more US content and all we get is delays and cold shouldered. I agreed with all of your choices on this video

      @@TheTrainspotterFromTauranga I definitely was a bit aggressive with it but it was kinda my point was to be a bit too much because it feels like it’s already so much already. I mean hell UK is an island, 20 more dlcs and they’ll have completed the entire rail network 😂

    The Amtrak F40s primarily ran on long distance services over routes that I don’t think would be that fun to drive on, unless there’s a lot of freight traffic. But you could add one of the short haul routes that they ran. Not sure which one but you could definitely find a good one if you look hard enough. And this one is just wishful thinking but you could also make a backdated version of the Boston to Providence route before the days of electrification and with the old Providence station, back when F40s ran trains between Boston and New Haven.
    As far as other stuff I’d like to see, I really want some sort of Shinkansen route. This is arguably the most iconic network of trains in the entire world, and it’s crazy we don’t have one in TSW yet. Even if you made an unlicensed route, that would still sell really well. Or even a remake of the China high speed network from TS Classic would be a really cool to have. And sticking with Asia, an urban Tokyo commuter route is also massively overdue. There are so many routes to choose from, and if they pick the right one and execute it well, it can easily be a banger.
    And this one will probably never happen, but as a NEC super fan, I want the entirety of it with all the trains that run on it. No exclusions anywhere, give me everything.

    • @potatoman451
      @potatoman451 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Union workshop is creating something Asian.
      The problem with going unbranded is that without a license, dtg might not have access to the train or be able to get sound recordings or ask them how the train works. Also not every operator wants to be in tsw because the train is their property and reputation after all.
      Regarding your comment about the nec, you would be correct. Dc to baltimore wouldn't happen because no marc. Philadelphia wouldn't happen because no septa. I don't know which license the other sections need

    Your F40PH suggestion would be great for Boston sprinter as a 1990s version. New Haven to Boston didn’t get electrification until the late 90s. They could implement them with cajon pass with superliners

    I do hope DTG staff read user input with serious intent to learn from regarding future product development. The customer base is substantial and as train fans - hungry for more product. As one such hungry fan, I would appreciate ongoing improvements / additions to the existing routes along with the development of new routes. For USA routes, the LA - San Diego route rebuilt into TSW4 is a must do. I would also suggest the GTW/CN route from Chicago to Port Huron via Durand in Michigan. Tons of variety and interest there. The U4b 4-8-4 streamlined steam engine with vintage passenger stock would be an outstanding addition! British routes - the London Waterloo to Portsmouth route rebuilt into TSW4 with the Guildford New Line included with thrill me no end. I'm still desperately holding on to see slammer stock in appropriate period correct liveries appear on existing or new routes. DTG: please get aggresive in the licensing department to increase the variety of motive units and rolling stock. The competing sim companies have done quite well regarding this. " Coffee time ! "

    I Personally would just like to see any S-Bahn Berlin Train. I'd really like to see the S5 line from Berlin-Ostkreuz to Srausberg Nord with the diesel only line from Strausberg to Küstrin-Kietz. This line would have to include the DB BR 481/482 for the S-Bahn services and the Talent one and/or Pesa-Link for the Regional services. The S-Bahn services take 47mins for the route and the Regional 1h 15mins for their route.

    The Amtrak F40ph in phase 3 is probably the most iconic American passenger locomotive out there. They could be found on pretty much all non-electrified routes in the 80s and 90s. Some suggestions on ones with frequent service: The Shoreline route (Boston to New Haven via Providence) The Springfield Line (Springfield to New Haven via Hartford) or the Surfline (Los Angeles to San Diego) Surfline in the 90s would be particularly interesting to me as Amtrak F40s and Dash 8s were paired with amfleets and metroliner cab cars. The cab cars moved east when the modern bi-levels took over. Other than that, the F40 could also be a stand alone add on with superliner cars and service layers on freight routes. Cajon Pass, Sand Patch, and Horseshoe Curve all would've seen F40s in the past, or a new route like Marias Pass in the BN era would be appropriate for F40s with superliners.

Ironically the ALP-45DP also runs in CANADA on the Exo Network. If I am being honest I would love for dovetail to get the Southern Pacific's Donner Pass into TSW4. Here is why: Allows for a interesting and famous route, challenging terrain, and unique and famous locomotives such as the Amtrak EMD F40PH, Southern Pacific EMD SD40T-2, and older locomotives such as the cab forward. This route has not been made for a dovetail games product (excluding mods) since it originally came out for train sim classic. I think this is a missed opportunity.

    I would have loved the cross city line to extend to Smethwick Galton Bridge so the class 323 could change ends and enter Soho Depot and also extend to Birmingham International so there is some variation also to add the 350 as it is stupid to only have 323s at Birmingham when it is one of the most diverse stations in the UK operated by West Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway, Cross Country and Avanti west coast served by class 323s, 350s, 170s, 172s, 196s, 220s, 221s, 390s, 730s and soon 805s and 807s.

Two yards, 30% of the entire track mileage being non electrified freight tracks, four sets of gp38-2’s and yet, not once do you get to use them despite them repackaging and reselling the route three friggen times. Every US route has 5-25 industries you don’t even get to touch and antelope valley was a big middle finger with the NPC sd40 literally switching industries yet all we got was four 2 part through runs, 6/8 of them literally at night and the routes lighting is so poor you can’t see jack

    You're forgetting the fact that licenses are required. Dtg can't create anything without a license and if they proceeded without, they have legal consequences. Not every single train operator or country wants to be in tsw.
    Also expecting dtg to create the entire world by themselves is highly unrealistic. They don't have the budget or time or employees. Dtg isn't a triple a studio with millions of dollars of budget. 3rd parties have to fill the gap.
    Regarding your comment about more steam locos, not even the current small uk steam locos work properly because the simulation is poor so even if dtg did create other locos, it wouldn't work well and you would still be upset

    • @TheTrainspotterFromTauranga
      @TheTrainspotterFromTauranga  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No, I didn't forget about licenses. And I never expected DTG to literally create the entire world (nor did I intend to give off the impression that that's what I wanted). My point was that it's getting tiresome seeing the same two or three countries in TSW every time, regardless of whether or not they sell well, but I don't expect the motive power mentioned in this video to ever actually come to the game.
      As for steam locomotives, I'd rather see the simulation improved before DTG or a 3rd-party tries adding more steamers to the game, but I don't expect them to be competent enough to do that.

      @@jonathonsantos8306right but they still can't go outside the big 3 if they don't have any other licenses. The only other license dtg has outside of the big 3 is austria, switzerland (that is rivets speciality so dtg won't do), france (sncf might have only allow high speed trains) and scotland. Then you have the same problem again that they are only in another big 3. That's really it. They also aren't going to go unbranded and having no license means dtg can't get reference. How hard is it to understand no license = can't do.
      Plus they also have to create and simulate all the real things
      Dtg can't just pick a random country Morocco, Japan and India for example and just make it. That's not how licensing works.
