One thing i love about this route is how good the Acela sounds. Acela has a very distinct sound when it passes you and dovetail nailed that woosh (and the horn).
I'm from Boston, and I agree that having ONLY the commuter rail is annoying. PS, yes the engines face south and the cab car north. Also, we have updated engines now.
The MBB's were often used as they have toilets on them. Now they are almost gone except one or maybe 2 per consist. I agree the Kawasaki bi-level cars would be more realistic now, almost all NEC MBTA trains have at least 8 or 9 bi-level coaches. It's also unrealistic that NEC MBTA trains stop at Hyde Park, only Franklin/Forge Park trains do (with rare exceptions during rush hours). I don't agree with disabling cab signals though, that's a requirement under the FRA, even if you are late (and what MBTA train usually isn't? lol). I DO agree that a longer route, more engines and rolling stock and a variety of options (like the Franklin and Needham branches you mention) would be wonderful, I expect DTG didn't want to release a "Hey, drive a Needham Branch train (I have ridden it many times) and pay us $25 to do so!" and see almost no sales. An extension to Wickford Jct. or New Haven would be most welcome and enjoyed.
Probably temporary given the new Orange Line cars. There are no OL cars on the route because they either broke down, caught fire or fell onto a highway (all of which have happened, sadly).
Something I found weird about the ACS 64 is the inclusion of unit 601 and 627 which were both involved in accident's. Unit 601 is completely scrapped and unit 627 is heavily damaged but in storage at a siding. Also another mistake is that unit 600 does not have the name David L Gunn in front of it and unit 642 is not painted in the veterans livery.
I didn't even think of those wrecked locomotives. And regarding 642, I wonder if there were some sort of licensing restrictions preventing the inclusion of her livery (they also left out 602 and 606's special liveries). I won't be surprised if DTG leave out 42 and 90208 if they ever add P42DCs or NPCUs in the game.
Still waiting for more mbta rolling stock. The fairmount Needham and Franklin/Forge Park 495 could of been added. The HSP46 GP40MC MP36PH-3C Kawasaki 1700s And the Hyaundi Rotems 1800s would be nice
12:00 Max speed for the MBTA coaches is 79 MPH irl. Though the locos are rated to go faster if not connected to the 79mph coaches. That’s why you were able to reach 100+ in the F40 and not the CTC-3
Ay a review of the route from my corner of the world. Pretty much agree with everything you said. I wish they implemented the max service speed system they introduced in TSW 3 here, as MBTA trains have a max service speed of 80mph and it’s unrealistic to go higher. They actually did a really good job with the sounds. The ACS-64 is almost perfect, and the F40 is pretty good as well. The sounds were actually done with the help of The Audio Shack, who used to make sound packs for American add-ons in TS Classic. While some sounds aren’t that great, they could’ve been much worse if Dovetail did the sounds themselves. The ACS-64 back in the original NEC New York route was abysmal. So glad they redid the sounds for this add-on.
From what I can tell it's a 2019 timetable. As for an extension, it would be kind of hard. *Maybe* Kingston, but it doesn't seem worth it for a mere 14 Amtrak services (none of which are Acela so you won't get the ample 150mph) and a few MBTA services to Wickford. If you cut it off at Wickford it would render a third of the route with extremely high speeds unusable for Amtrak. With that said, they could add some MBTA branches including the Fairmount Line, Franklin / Foxborough Lines, and Needham Line. But hey if we'd get all that why not send it down to New Haven too?
Keep up good work with DTG reviews! We can agree on almost every thing you are mentioning. As usual, this route is example of "bare minimum work" they are making for DLC. Poor variety, poor surroundings, but basic things as platform coliding with train!! There will be never enough constructive criticism for TSW.
I personally think you are asking for too much out of dovetail. They aren't going to model a whole emu, most exterior and interior and timetable just to act as ai only. Having more than 1 piece of brand new rolling stock is not feasible. The acs64 had to be rebuilt and a whole new locomotive (f40ph-3c) and trainset and cab car had to be built. The signaling also had to receive a big overhaul. Remind you that they have deadlines as well and they can't spend forever on a product. You can't have freight running on the route because they would have to be rebuilt to include atc/acses which is just too much. Essentially rebuilding the layered in trains. Building a route is a long process. It's not just 60 odd miles to just build. You have to build the whole scenery and track and takes a really long time to build. If you think any of this is easy, then you can build it yourself.
I don't expect the devs to spend infinity amounts of time making a product, I just think they should spend more time on them to make sure they're as good as they can possibly be on release. As for ai-only EMUs, I'm not sure what you're referring to since I didn't bring up EMUs at all in this video. I understand that it takes a long time to build these things, but that doesn't meant I can't criticise the route when I see fit. Referring to what you said about me building this sort of thing myself, I've heard the 'you do better' argument before and it doesn't work because not everyone knows how to make DLC for this game. And it doesn't give critical immunity to the people who do know how to make DLC, regardless of how hard the development is.
Yes this illustrates perfectly how the MBTA commuter rail must electrify and have more frequent service. Effectively creating a rapid transit system for the greater Boston metro region. Having spent time in London and Paris Ive seen how much better public transit can be..... ............OH just realized this is all "Sim" I am much more interested in reality but see the usefulness of simulations to figure things out. BUT.......REALITY gets my vote any day!!! :)
I still have the original NEC (aka the far superior NEC) from TSW2020. Even though it’s around four years old, it still holds up with modern standards in my opinion.
With The SEPTA trains they apart from The ACS-64-hauled sets they use The Silverliner MK IV and MK V variants from what i've seen in Retired Railfan Horn Guy's TH-cam clips.
Dovetail has a good relationship with Amtrak. And does nothing with it in game. Sad. If I were the person in charge of that at Amtrak and say NY to Trenton I would force them to fix it.
They still haven’t added Amtrak to all the US routes that it runs on and it’s beyond frustrating. A third party is working on the p42 and oakville route has had its passenger scenarios worked on but the devs claim it’s still too buggy to release. They just treat players like shit
And speaking of non walkable corridors the DB BR 103 has an invisible wall in the corridors which is stupid because it's literally just 2 steps away. Did DTG not have the budget to make the corridor walkable
Just purchased this yesterday and once again another dlc with a locomotive on the route that you can’t use. The csx geep38’s are in both yards, the static freight cars are in industry sidings and yet, ZERO SCENARIOS OR TIMETABLE. It’s like the devs just go “oh we met the deadline oh well we just won’t complete it and charge people full price anyways”
Regarding the inaccurate PIS you mentioned, this was mentioned in the first Boston preview stream where Matt said this line “people don’t take videos of these for like a few minutes and upload them to TH-cam.” As a result, they didn’t find a reference for the actual PIS screen. But they should have worked more with the community to get the reference for the actual PIS screens.
What's funny is that they literally created a thread in the forums to get accurate pis but kept using inaccurate british pis on American routes to this day. Why are DTG so lazy?
@@Atrail_Mckinley4786 I don’t think DTG knows how to behave on the timings they use to create route and locos. They always rush things and are not bothering to take their time. They should learn a lesson from MSFS or Bus Sim 21 developers, who take their time more efficiently.
@@DC4260Productions I get that. It's one of those things that either clicks with your or it don't. Although I will readily admit Cajon Pass badly needs a P42 with superliners. I mean the route has multiple stations and they are actually in the well done areas of the map.
And yet the gp38 is on the map and yet there are zero scenario or timetable oops for it. These devs treat us like shit. Half Ass everytbing and blame “bugs” rather then there laziness and obsession with making money on a target release date rather then put out completed and full products

Considering elements of this date back to Train Sim World 2020 you'd expect those parts to have been updated and improved from that along with those from the TSW 2 release. The TSW 2 version has exactly the same bugs and issues and the lack of AI traffic really breaks the immersion. Should never have had the rush hour tag attached to it. Jeez Louise, even the concrete textures at 11:02 look to have been lifted straight out of Train Sim Classic. Lazy.
Ai traffic is plenty at Boston South mostly for mbta going off to other lines outside of the boundaries of the route. Frequency is quite poor for mbta which is about 1 train per hour from Boston to Providence one way. Amtrak is realistic as well. There aren't a lot of trainsets for the acs64 and acela so nothing more can be added. The timetable is realistic

The timetable is realistic. Amtrak does not have a lot of trains, including the acela and mbta frequency is quite poor. There's nothing else that can be done about adding more. Most mbta ai only services go off route.
