The purpose of this live & interactive series is to cover topics including: jewelry sourcing, jewelry identification tips, and how to research and care for our pieces. We'll also take look at some of my vintage and antique jewelry finds.
This is the thirteenth episode, features an Art Nouveau Jewelry overview with tips on the identification pendants and lavalier necklaces. We'll discuss the evolution in styles, materials and fabrication techniques, as well as the overlaps and commonalities of the Arts and Crafts movement with the Art Nouveau, Belle Epoque and Edwardian periods.
No Sundae Brunch would be complete without our "spot the listing error" segment, and we will wrap things up with a live treasure hunt!

My grandmother gave me her necklace with the dangleseed pearl.She was born in 1904.She said that if you have a seed pearl on it you were single and eligble to marry.if the pearl was missing you were already married.

Are you saying the lavalier is attached to a chain as one piece ?
Hi Marlene, yes - traditionally a lavalier is all one piece, where the pendant is attached to the chain, and not removable. (Many people choose to use this term interchangeably which causes confusion!)

@@marlenemcmillan8891 I understand what you mean now 😄 Multiple factors go into the price of an item, including condition, quality, materials, workmanship, scarcity/rarity and desirability. When I'm buying fine jewelry (particularly gold), I like to consider the item's weight so that I understand what the raw material value is, compared to the asking price. The reason for this is because gold is a commodity, so to closer you buy to the current price per gram, the better value it is for me as a buyer. That said, I am willing to "pay up" for high quality pieces, scarce antiques, and special hard to find pieces. I'll be doing a video to talk about prices in the future :)

Your map of 1900 shows Alaska as USA. So it is not.
Thanks for watching & commenting, good eye! 👏 I can see how this could be confusing; although Alaska was purchased from Russia in 1867, it only became a territory in 1912, and a state in 1959.
I am 99% sure that the Eva W.H. Locket is the same one that was stolen from my grandmothers house in a burglary about 7 years ago. This was in Tallahassee. That Locket belonged to my great great grandmother (my grandmother’s grandmother, Eva Morgan. She was born Eva Sandlin. She died in childbirth in 1874 having my great grandfather. I’m going to try find a picture of her wearing it to confirm this.
