Crown always brings it back. Movement, balance, harmony. When I marched back in the day I was always so impressed by Crown. They are elegant. So what if they don't win? They're crisp, clean and classic. Always. All the way back to 2008, one of my favorite shows to date.

There's shows with really out there concepts that are distract from the music and the formations. Crown keeps it real, classically smooth with well executed fundamentals performed at a high level, with some of the most musically interesting compositions. My point was that they're not a group that relies on thrills or over the top choreography to be interesting. They're fun to watch solely because they play and march so well. I just think in the desire to win and please judges some corps opt to try and be "innovative" which is a whole different style, that sometimes falls flat for the audience. People want to see sharp and unexpected formations, killer brass and tight drum licks. Color guard should meld seamlessly with the rest of the corps, adding extra umph to the formations and musical high points. Idk that's just one woman's opinion though.

My personal list: 1: 2019 2: 2013 3: 2017 4: 2016 5: 2011 And they're all so close, it's near interchangeable. 2013 and 2019 openers could tie each other if I wanted it lel.

This might just be a “me thing” but whenever shows have speech in the show it kind of takes me out of the beauty of the instrumentation. Amazing show still.
don't think you can get better than early to mid 2000's, for most div 1 corps. it seems like adding electronically amplified audio killed drum corps. go back to 05 Crown, or 04 Cavaliers, 02 Blue Devils or Cadets.

I jUsT WaNt To Sit oN mY tRuMpEt, and plAy SomEthIng Like this!_ " and every time I just think "...???????? why was that necessary to the show?" Like In something like Kinetic noise where the voiceover is something cordially related to the show and isn't covering any music up it makes sense, but otherwise it just doesn't vibe with me.
I have to say, energy and volume have little impact compared to precision. This show is lovely and energetic, but, one must ask them self, are the standards of DCI the same as the were 8 years ago? And if they are, do we even come close? I encourage debate please. I want to see other perspectives.
cjv1996 I would say the standards are different, but not necessarily lower. Shows today focus much more on entertaining the audience with general effect elements as opposed to cleanliness elements (which is still heavily present, but is not the only central focus). In my opinion, today’s DCI shows are more palatable to people who are not as in to “fine” arts, while DCI shows in years past focused on appealing to an audience that viewed it in a more... militaristic(?) and detailed way.I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other, but there definitely has been a shift to appeal to a new gen. of marchers and audience members

This show had plenty of precision. That's not what was missing. The show had no stakes or immediacy. What the hell were these people trying to tell us? There's a sacred, hidden geometry underneath everything? Great! Now what? What does that have to do with our lives as we live them or imagine living them? How is the theme tied to the music? What's the takeaway? What emotions are the performers revealing in this show? Are they referring to an historical context? How do the "patterns" they're making overtly transform by the end, and why?
this show is amazing but the brass doesn't sound as warm and round as i am used to hearing from crown. Is it stylistic or just the recording method didnt pick up the contras as much?
Hey any of yall got some advice for me? I like really want to join crown, I think if I started practicing with mallets again I could definitely get in. Money shouldn't be a problem either. The only doubt I got is uprooting the plan I got for me go to university since you lose certain scholarships if you don't go immediately. Any advice?

I have to say, energy and volume have little impact compared to precision. This show is lovely and energetic, but, one must ask them self, are the standards of DCI the same as the were 8 years ago? And if they are, do we even come close? I encourage debate please. I want to see other perspectives.
cjv1996 I would say the standards are different, but not necessarily lower. Shows today focus much more on entertaining the audience with general effect elements as opposed to cleanliness elements (which is still heavily present, but is not the only central focus). In my opinion, today’s DCI shows are more palatable to people who are not as in to “fine” arts, while DCI shows in years past focused on appealing to an audience that viewed it in a more... militaristic(?) and detailed way.I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other, but there definitely has been a shift to appeal to a new gen. of marchers and audience members
@@irlmajorminor2991 this makes total sense. I didn't mean to come off like I was saying this shift is a BAF thing so to speak, but I do think we are in an odd transition period for sure. I'm always excited to see what comes out every year for sure.

This show had plenty of precision. That's not what was missing. The show had no stakes or immediacy. What the hell were these people trying to tell us? There's a sacred, hidden geometry underneath everything? Great! Now what? What does that have to do with our lives as we live them or imagine living them? How is the theme tied to the music? What's the takeaway? What emotions are the performers revealing in this show? Are they referring to an historical context? How do the "patterns" they're making overtly transform by the end, and why?

Hey any of yall got some advice for me? I like really want to join crown, I think if I started practicing with mallets again I could definitely get in. Money shouldn't be a problem either. The only doubt I got is uprooting the plan I got for me go to university since you lose certain scholarships if you don't go immediately. Any advice?
