That's all very well, but as Gabor Mate himself says, if your carrying a lot of childhood trauma you need the help of a practitioner/therapist - you can't do it on your own. It doesn't matter if its Gabor Mate's Compassionate Inquiry, Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing, Richard Schwartz's Internal Family Systems, or any other similar trauma-informed therapy, the more trauma you carry, the more sessions you are going to need, and the more expensive it will be, and unfortunately most people who are suffering from depression, addictions etc don't have that sort of money, so are these therapies really a viable solution?
All of these therapies focus on the mind... the only viable solution is going beyond the mind or the ego transcending the psychology. Even Buddha who was fully enlightened continued to practice self inquiry, mindfulness, or meditation. Simply because as long as we live the ego mind will try to trick us into giving our energy to the the mind rather than consciousness. As someone who deals with trauma I can confirm that a practice is necessary of understanding the egos psychological tendencies. This is so the mind is seen through and able to dissolve the psychological barrier which is all the ego or the mind is. It takes practice and a life long commitment but it reduces suffering which is psychological again of the mind or thought. Pain will always be there as long as our lifetime but how we choose to deal with it to be reactive to triggers or the trauma. Or to respond to the suffering of that wound with understanding. That is that love is understanding as they say. And all we need is love.
The profound realization of Buddha is to discover, we as ordinary suffering beings have long possessed wrong ideas of being a Self. As long as the self exists, the feelings in terms of all kinds of suffering are bound to manifest! There’re meditative methods in variety, are providing access for us to experience the Self as an illusory conceptualized subject. As long as we are no longer to hold on to this I, me, mine, the attachment reduced, the aversion reduced. The way how we perceive our moment by moment life can be uplifting to a whole new scope of Being, in stead of Doing. When we possess and maintain ourselves in the state of Awareness, we are unlabeled to any identities that we have accumulated in the past experiences or future projections. 🪷🪷🪷😇🙏
I started reading that book, but got put off when Bessel describes the experiment where they repeatedly gave dogs electric shocks whilst they were locked in cages, and then opened the cages, and gave them a further shock when they tried to escape - what sort of a traumatized mind would even think up such an experiment? Bessel said he wasn't involved in the experiment, but was eagerly awaiting the results!
Just to let yall know humans experience the same trauma reactions. We get stuck. Our brains get stuck in survival mode/ shock. We suffer tremendously for those that have encountered this. Its real. It happens. This happens to humans. Its not just a book or a clinician getting off. Thank god many people dont understand and pray they never experience such suffering. Bessel is more than just a researcher. He has seen this happen to us. Tramua isnt just painful memories. Its a rough book for a rough case. My next move was buying a taser in attempt to get me unstuck. Better than a gun. Be thankful for the things you dont understand. Im unstuck and on a road of recovery.

I do think he should reference Carl Rogers and his person centerd theory. Empathy congruence unconditional positive regard to build the therapeutic relationship. Mirroring being one of the main techniques in his listening skills.
He does Carl Rogers' work and uses other psychologists' work of yesteryear. GM is NO original. Therefore, he shouldn't get nearly as much praise as he does.
Spread this video with this important introduction, please. But I am troubled why the phony is so broken from the middle part onwards.. So Sorry to see that.
Thank you so much for this interview! If I can make a peaceful, loving suggestion... I would ask that you turn down the background music, please.... I found it to be drowning out dr Gabor's soft voice and very distracting. It's beautiful music 🎵, but if it was softer, it wouldn't distract from Dr Gabor or your voices and intent. 🙏

I suggest dr. Bessel van der kolk's book The Body keeps the score, in which he has many selfhelp tips to try heal trauma.
