1.) The breather valve on the differential gets clogged up and blows your axle seals
2.) Lower Ball Joint Failures which can be catastrophic
3.) Parking Brake will seize up after not being used and corroded for awhile.
4.) Valve Cover Gaskets leaking and ruining alternator!
5.) Sunroof leaks (if equipped) they are known for molding up the interior. So make sure to pour water on them and make sure they don’t leak if you’re buying one.
6.) Original Radiator going out and creating strawberry milkshake of death. Since trans cooler is integrated within radiator.
These cars are usually overall bulletproof though, just make sure you check all these minor things they listed and make sure you don’t over pay and take care of it. If you take care of these things they’ll last forever
Bought a 96 for $2500! Only had 257K miles! Just breaking in!
Spoiler alert! The only problem is paying well over book value for one of these legend of an automobile.
Just got a 2002 with 208k miles for $2500
Already love it
Rear axle seals will go bad if you don't check/replace the breather valve, valve cover gasket replacement with half moon seal, radiator replacement to avoid the transmission oil mix with coolant, get oem brake pads with good quality rotors, transmission shifter bushings replacement, oil cooler gasket and washer replacement, lower ball joint very important to replace... simple maintenance and its a great suv to work on since its very easy lots of videos of how to do everything on it
Great video, well done!
Does issue #2, about the abnormal shifting, apply to a manual transmission? I think it doesn't, but I just want to make sure. Thanks!
Great video, thank you!
For recalls do I have to purchase it from them ( dealership )or any deal will do it ? For example I bought my 96 from someone not a dealer could I still get my frame fix through Toyotas recall ?
Good video! Thanks
Do the 2019 Toyota Tundra Limited 5.7L flex fuels have any problems that you know of? Or that I should be watching for or doing extra maintenance to make sure it doesn't become a problem?
Is it advicable to get this as a first car for someone still learning to drive???
Ball joints
I have a 1999 4Runner V-6. There is a mild clicking sound when on the highway that gets faster with the speed of the vehicle. When I get home and the car is still in drive I hear some louder clicking but only ocassionally. When I shift into park the clicking goes away. Is this the parking pawl spring malfunctioning? Is it safe to drive as it is? I am sure it would be an expensive repair. Have other 4Runeer ran into this problem? Could it be something else. Vehicle has 240,000 miles and a new timing belt was insalled two years ago.
The overdrive does not seem to engage on my 1998 4Runner. RPM's are are over 3500 @ 55 mpg. Also there is vibration in the front end until 50 mpg. Vibration will stop @ 50 mpg. Any hints? Thanks
Toyota only recalled US made frames if rusted. The 4 runner was Japan made, not covered. From what I've heard.
Wife's car is a '99 with 200k on the 3.4 v6. As Andrew stated, the parking break will seize up if you don't use it. The only other real issue is that the floor shifter has plastic spacers In the mechanism that disintegrate over time so the floor shifter is pretty wobbly. Still works fine though.
You can still get a new frame after all these years?
My 2000 V6 2X with 373k still going strong!
It’s crazy how it’s changed over the years
Hello friend, greetings from Venezuela, I have a 1998 4runner 4x4 5vz, I changed the timing kit and it stays accelerated at 1100rpm, what could I do?
Thanks ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My brother , where is the immobiliser in 4runner 1999 ?
My engine light is not on and no codes are showing, I've cleaned the Mass airflow sensor, but it still does not have acceleration after taking off at about a 1/4 of a mile if that much. However if I put it in nuetral and rev it a time or two and back to drive it will go like it should. What do you think is the problem?
So I have 2003 Toyota 4Runner V8 and I having a hard time changing the gear, what causes that problem.
I have an issue with my 1999 forerunner where I will press on the gas pedal quickly and then brake suddenly and the car will turn off. Any ideas??
I just had problem #2 replaced months ago on my 2001 and the sad part is no body sells it. I live in Houston tx and there are tons of junk yards and they wouldn't sell it either. One place is willing to sell it for $500.
My mechanic did everything to clean it and nothing it's the litle electronic sensor that fried. (Ebay rescued me).
Frame rot calling the dealership and they don't help. What is the other option? Other way around it ??
Parking brake cable on the rear axle will seize if not used daily also.
Replacing the missing spare tire would be a good idea...
Sir
I want to know what can fail break
Toyota did not have a frame call for 4 runners.
Heater valve, after 20 years the left tube will explode and leak coolant
Frame rottttt 😂 gotta love the northeast
I have a 98.toyota 4runner sr5 3.4 the problem is the fuel gage
I was told toyota never issued a recall or offered to repair any 3rd gen 4runner frames. Only tacos.
Is that correct?
Scrap or junk one of those 😂
Hi guys how how u doing I have a 1997 Toyota 4 runner 6cylinder 4x4 when I’m driving it’s shaking but when I change the Rotors and the brakes pads the car driving fine for a while after that it’s happening again? Can you give me ur advice about that please ?
+JEAN RODNER VIL We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
A/T oil temp 😢
You forgot the strawberry milkshake radiator problem. You don't get that with a manual transmission.
Frames rusting out
Does anyone else have a strange vibrating noise under the hood that momentarily sounds like something venting with engine off?
Comes from drivers side around master cylinder area!
Are you wearing a wig?
a bad wire does not mean a whole new motor is needed lol
Unreal how corroded and rusted this 4runner is. Sad.
I have a 1999 toyota right hand 4 runner ..wen driveing it raving hard and my fuel finish emty wat case it.. and my digical cliamet control not working ....sir my question to you .thank you
