  • We just snagged a 1999 4Runner Limited with 200,000 miles, clean title, no rust and best of all... a factory e-locker. Hang out, watch from afar, offer up help or suggestions whatever you wanna do, more to come from this old 4Runner!
    Thanks for watching!

    I got my 4x4 sr5 for 6k and it had so much wrong with it but I fixed it all myself fully within a few months. Bushings, suspension linkages, timing belt, water pump, valve cover gasket, radiator, coils, wires, all new fluids, external trans cooler, oil cooler, interior detailing, exterior detail, after all that much needed maintenance then finally I got a new set of aftermarket bilstein shocks and toytec coils and tundra brakes. Cant expect to buy a 25 year old vehicle and have it be perfect but it was a fun project and I learned a lot. After all of this was done it was way cheaper than a newer vehicle and just as functional and nice as a new 4runner imo

      Awesome with the external trans cooler to bypass the radiator itself. Don't forget to change the differential breather valve & can seize up after so many years if you go off road. You can modify it with a kit to bypass the breather valve to the fuel neck to let it purge higher. I know you will enjoy many years from the 4runner with all the maintenance you done👍

    I bought that almost identical 4Runner new back in 1999. Mine was a black Limited with the same Oak interior. I can still remember how it smelled brand new from the dealer!

    15:20 That's how I bought my 2000 Limited fully loaded & paid $2650. for it.
    It's a J model made in Japan with zero rust on the body or the frame plus I bought it in Michigan.
    I'm currently added to this vehicle and plan on keeping it for the rest of my life.
    This is a great running truck too, I'll do a video once done already have vids saved to load on the progress of her.

    Just found your page and subscribed ! Running a 2000 SR5 and was happy to hear all the maintenance you guys talked about doing is everything I've done as well . From the gaskets to the axels and rebuilding the rear diff . Found mine for $4,000 in California 😬 . But not 4x4 and no rear locker .

    Wow! Nice find. Even though it seems all great and gravy... Eventually; you'll have to replace all the common stuff that wears our and is known for that reason. However; congratulations, you've found a rare gem and these are the stealth, Spartan rigs of the 4runner world, also known as the 3rd gen, best gen, for a proven reason! Instant subscriber! Thank you for sharing, and looking forward to more videos! Take care fellers!👍

    Great find congrats! Don't you get a lot of rusted vehicles in Colorado with all the snow you get?

    • @Team4runner
      @Team4runner  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question! Surprisingly Colorado is pretty good about rust. Usually some general surface rust but nothing ever concerning.

    I picked up a 97 white sr5 4x4 with clean body no rust. the frame underneath minimal rust frame still black from factory if does have Miles 200k truck rides smooth . but I will switch lower ball joints and radiator for peace of mind.. the timing belt il gamble on that a bit more but will change also and I paid 2k for truck

    Looking at buying an 02, why did you say you were looking for 98-00? Just curious if there’s issues I need to know of

    • @starforcefighter
      @starforcefighter 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Check the valve cover, they are known to leak. Look if the stock Denso radiator has been changed. Asked when timing belt has been serviced. Check underneath to check for frame rust. Inspect front lower ball joints, inspect rear tires for rear axle seal leaks. Check the differential breather valve if it has seized.

      @@starforcefighter Thank you I’ll keep my eye out. I had a rear axle seal leak and my driver side front lower ball joint fail on my Tundra. I guess theyve got pretty similar issues

      @jackrogers6792 the highest mileage balljoints i have ever heard of these things was 232k OEM from a 2002. Freakin insane the owner let it go that long without changing them.

      Weird. I have 2 1998s.
      One has the j shifter with the button on the dash for the rear locker. One has a button to activate 4x4 on the high/low selector.
      I've never seen a j shifter with a button on it.

    • @b1nary625
      @b1nary625 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@dand33911 On only the 99-00 limited models, there was a special "multi-mode" transfer case, which makes the vehicle both a part time and a full time 4wd vehicle. The stick behaves like a normal j-shift, but when you press the button in the "2wd" state, it can toggle between 2wd and awd.
      I have also heard that the multi-mode j-shift is larger than the j-shift found in sr5 models, and often times has to be replaced with a traditional j-shift to fit a crawler box. Can't say for sure but this is what I saw on someone else's build

      Good to know!
      I prefer the old school J shifter to the push button. I have seen a few 99/2000 models with the button that must have had what you're talking about.
