    I loved the changes that they made especially with Nina now being Afro Latina and dealing with those micro aggressions at school, Leslie Grace and Corey Hawkins had to be the stand outs for me their chemistry was off the charts.

      The added details with Nina made her story even more powerful and I'm sure resonated with many! and I completely agree! Leslie and Corey's chemistry was a stand out!

      It was a great detail how she arrives back from Uni with straight hair, and it gets more curly as the longer she spends back home.

    Watching the musical, I always loved the whole thing, but 96,000 in the 1st Act, & Carnaval del Barrio in the 2nd were my high points. But in the movie, Paciencia y Fé steals it, and was, well, beyond description! Every freaking little thing about it was so well done: the music, the performance, the dancing & choreography, the cinematography, & especially the emotion. I truly believe it will become a scene which will be studied by film students & wannabe directors in the future. Just incredibly brilliant.

      oh absolutely! It will definitely be a case study/example in schools for years to come! It was done so brilliantly and in my opinion is was just a complete masterpiece of cinema!

    Hey, I'm chilean too and i lowkey freak out a little when Stephanie fucking Beatriz said "-my dad is from Chile and PR" xD also, in Carnaval de Barrio there's a chilean flag hung with the others and these are both such small things but it always makes me feel happy :)

      haha! I know! I freak out as well! Every time I just yell out "CHILE!!" just cause we got a mention! 😂 and I know! I got teary-eyed seeing the Chilean flag! It made me so happy cause they were going for all Central and South American inclusion!

    The part I loved the most was that when I listen to the movie soundtrack, I can actually see the actors and dancers perform it. A coworker caught me visibly smiling at Bennie's Dispatch when I was listening to it on my earbuds. I'm just glad he didn't see me sobbing again at Breathe. Lol

    Thanks for your review of In The Heights. I've yet to see it but have been listening to the sound track. I love all the elements of Merengue, salsa and mambo. It's just missing a bachata track unfortunately, which is a shame as it's one of the most beautiful genres of Latin music from the Dominican Republic, which a lot of the characters come from. I'm already a Leslie Grace fan and I love learning about Latin culture so I can't wait to see it. 💕

    I'm kinda glad I watched it on HBO at home. After Breathe, I had to pause it so I could cry. Same with Pacencia/Alabanza. I had to stop to cry my eyes out.
    Then I was screaming/cheering with laughter at Piragua and the end credits. I still wanna see any outtake with Chris and Lin. Now I know the best way to handle Lin when he's strutting around is to throw ice cream sprinkles at him.
    The choreo was incredible. Like, Oh Em Gee, it was great. I was bouncing on my couch with the music. Carnival did not disappoint. No Me Diga was also great, I didn't know you could do choreo with fancy nails. And those WIGS!!! I also thoroughly enjoyed that they changed Kevin and Benny's relationship and took out the racial tension. I liked it a lot. And the hesitancy over the immigration topic was not In Your Face and it brought a good contribution to the plot.
    Only thing that bothered me was the continuity with Nina's hair. She went from a straight hairstyle, and then in No Me Diga, which is the same day, suddenly her hair is up, slightly curled and longer. Then her hair is poofy and curly for most of the movie. I can understand her hair changing as a result of No Me Diga, but since her hair grew between the lunch with her Dad and when she walks into the salon, it was a notica error.
    Nothing would make me happier than to see Olga and Pacencia y Fe be nominated for awards.

    • @CathlynRoseMcKellar
      @CathlynRoseMcKellar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the lunch with her dad and the visit to the Salon happened on separate days, at least that's what my interpretation was! If it didn't then that is a big error! and Olga and Paciencia y Fe better be up for all the awards! That was just a masterpiece!!

      hey, as for the competition between the 2 sellers, AKA adorkable Lin and smooth Chris, anyway, as for those 2, a comment on the reprise, they said, there should be a looney toons style cartoon between those 2 with the primacy being the whole tom and jerry style of thing, where they sabotage each other’s for customers. basic, but funny! I’d so keep score to see who’d win every time!

    So which song hit you harder: Paciencia y Fe or Alabanza?

    • @CathlynRoseMcKellar
      @CathlynRoseMcKellar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ohhh... that's a tough call... I think the end of paciencia y fe hit me harder. See her make that decision and the aftermath hit so hard.
