That reflection shot during 'In The Heights' has been living in my head rent-free since I saw it. The Benny & Nina dance scene is magical, as is '96,000'. But for a single moment that perfectly encapsulates the magic that happens when film & theatre meet in the middle and elevate each other to new heights (har har), I don't think you could find something better or more goosebump-inducing than Usnavi staring straight down the camera at the audience through the reflection of the barrio ensemble choreography. Just incredible.
I haven't watched the OG stage version l, and I interpreted her saying "you abandoned me" as in cause he was leaving the block and her behind. They both suck at communicating, and just don't want to reveal the truth to eachother, so she quickly pivoted to it being about the dance and usnavi rightfully goes "what" Then he finally brings it into the open when he says "don't walk away from us tonight" Cause they both like eachother, they both know they both like eachother, but they never commit cause both of them think of the block as temporary. There's so many layers to that conversation, one of my fav part. And yea that scene in the movie is amazingly filmed, camera work and the cinematography
I love these versions of the songs. Piragua - GO LIN GO! When you’re home - ‘HEY WTH with the ending??!” Club/Blackout - You’ll understand the change in the lyrics when you see the movie :) Pacencia y Fe - It had me in tears, turning it into a softer, gentler tone made the emotional impact all that more impactful Carnival - Amazing! Even with the lyric changes It was wonderful to watch your reactions. They were similar to mine when I listened a few days ago. And yes, have tissues on standby.
Haha! I had tissues ready and they were definitely used! All the changes definitely made sense once I saw the film but I am still a tiny bit miffed that the ending of When You're Home got built up so much and then nothing! At least finish with the beautiful harmony softly!

I might make a video about it. I've never made one before but this movie has made me wanna do it. Anyways, just here to share a little gem I found. If you love Melissa's singing here, check out fetus Melissa in this musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet (it's the Mexican production of the 2000 French musical Roméo et Juliette)! haha! There is definitely so much to say about the film and its brilliance! and for me, unpopular opinions are just opinions! Everyone deserves to have their opinion and the thing about theatre is it is open to many different opinions that people can disagree on but all can be right at the same time! There is so much depth to the scene and I'm happy they decided to go with this because it gave the characters even more depth and development!
