This was the last episode I watched with my father before he died. He was a huge fan. I remember him laughing so hard at the failure's drink joke and even moreso at Frederick's first word.

I had to go to bed at 9 every night, except on Thursdays when my dad had me stay up to watch Cheers with him. For me it's the best sitcom of all time, and that five second "Norm!" clip is my favorite moment from the series.

@@jakeg3126 Nah it's a new joke. And the fact that it could not be misheard as Mommy is what makes it so funny. Classic setup/punchline/tag. Frasier set the big Norm punchline up but the setup for the Mommy joke was already handled in her conversation with Sam worrying that she hadn't connected with the kid. Side note: As a bartender I can tell you that whatever Sam just mixed there was most definitely NOT a Manhattan. Whatever it was he just poured into that glass I did not see him add bitters. Well, if you don't add bitters it's not a Manhattan. All he added was a cherry garnish, which is an entirely optional component to a Manhattan.
Also, a traditional Manhattan is served in a cocktail glass with no ice; Sam served whatever this was in a Old Fashioned (lowball) glass on ice. Although a Manhattan-on-ice is one of the more well-known variants of this cocktail it is not a straight Manhattan, which is what Phil said he was drinking (although admittedly we never actually see Phil's glass so we don't know for sure what he was drinking.)
