Yeah I am REALLY surprised he got that one.
The high heel, I was actually in doubt what that was until we got the answer (part of the reason though might be that we couldn't really see the whole thing at once I guess though)
also the sunglasses are wrong. They are only partial. . .they don't have the part that goes over your ears. So if someone showed you a drawing of a pool float that was all one color and was missing parts we'd all have trouble guessing too!

tbf those are very abstract shapes almost all of the detail is on the printing. most of them could've been some version of a bird except the guitar but even that's topologically a bit weird, what kind of guitar has a hole all the way through it.

I am going to keep asking this question until Tommy answers it haha. How do blind people solve long math problems in school? I know there is braille to read, but how would you represent complicated figures often used in advanced math? I am very curious

@gabearthur3948 There are braille graphics. Basically braille designs of pictures. And there are parts of a braille graph for example that will have labels on them to identify what they are.

This guy is absolutely fun to listen to what a great guy what a great personality. You can learn a lot of things from this man. Thamks Tom for sharing so much you are experiences with us.
Rewatching a lot of these after a few years. I'm beginning to realize that Tommy's memory and understanding of object shapes isn't quite like a 3D scan, as I had assumed. He seems to understand physical spaces and objects more as topologies.
The way he was describing the guitar reminded me of how topology mathematicians can equate two very different objects, because the specific feautures still hold true between them, topologically-speaking, even if the exact distances and angles are different.
If I close my eyes and try to guess objects too, I realize I do something very similar to Tommy when understanding what I'm holding. I think our brains are not as literal about shapes and spaces as we like to think. We seem to focus more on key features, and approximate connections between them.
-That's a 9 foot guitar.

watching a blind man feel up a pool float that looks like pizza and try to guess it being pizza, i'd say i'm having a pretty good tuesday.
This had to be the hardest challenge for you!! I remember when he spoke about how he "visualizes" stuff, he doesn't. He uses tactile cues.... size.. texture.. weight etc.
And the only thing we really have to identify it is sight

I found it coincidental that, when you were trying to figure out the guitar and thought is may be a radio, you said, "the things up here, the tuning and stuff" while you were feeling the part of the guitar that actually does "the tuning and stuff".

Hi, I've been watching some of your videos and I absolutely love them! You always make me laugh and I love that you don't see your disability as something that makes you less than human because it doesn't. I also love how you don't let it get you down and you're always happy. I was wondering though why are your hands always shaking? I'm just curious if you're maybe nervous or if it has something to do with your blindness somehow.

Just imagine trying to guess the shapes of things you’ve never seen. We’ve seen these objects so feeling the size and shapes would give us such a great idea of what it was but Tommy has never actually seen any of these objects. It’s crazy!
