I flatted out on the climb before baby steps on this stage. Syd, along with half the race pack, was very nice taking the time to ask me if I was ok as she passed me. The vibe of this whole race sportsmanship at it’s finest.
Trying to catch Peter Stetina, ex pro roadie? Wow, and you weren't far from it either Macky. Glad to how found your channel with some proper XC/trail riding! Keep it up! Oh, and I agree with previous comments - don't trash talk yourself Syd, just don't. You two are quite remarkable as I see it.
Woohoo! Macky hanging with Pete Stetina is an impressive feat. That guy is no slouch, and has the palmares to prove it. Team Inaudible Grousing is improving every day! Cheers to you both!
wow, great Job. nice sportsmanship when you offer one of the racers to follow you on the descent as you know the trail well. Syd, I loved the Positive-self-talk at 11:05 ;D ;D ;D This time, I could not agree LESS with you :)))
Great job guys! Syd, you crack me up! The dialog you were having with yourself was hilarious. The two of you truly embody the competitive spirit, never give up attitude. Very. very, inspiring.
I discovered your channel less than two weeks ago, and after finishing watching this video, I decided to start supporting you via Patreon... This is the ONLY youtube channel I'm supporting, this should tell a lot of how much I appreciate the content you create. Keep up the excellent work!! :D Greetings from the Republic of Panama, Alessandro
Look at the two of you......both finishing in the top 10 and stuff. No small feat for the first race of the season. A sign of great things to come, indeed. Well done, congrats, and looking forward to watching more of your successes throughout the season!
Super well done both of you! Syd I hope next ride you also feel the step upwards in living the ride. Sometimes you make progress but it does not feel that way while doing it, you're on the way up again! Macky: being in the position of racing the legendary Peter Stetina to the finish line means you are right up there, great performance
Hi Syd and Macky, some riders from my country of Trinidad and Tobago were there in this race . David hacksaw, Jason Costello,Ryan Chin and others. Think I heard Ryan Chin name at 18:47
For what ever reason TH-cam hasn't been showing me your videos, albeit I wasn't really watching during the home build stuff. In any case I wanted to say congrats on the great finish's. Last time I raced a bike was 93. I won the SoCal state championship for BMX at Orange Y at the age of 11 back in the early 90's but then the next year competition got harder and I only finished 3rd. I got mad and thought I was weak or the competition had training secrets I didn't have. I gave up racing after that. I still rode but turned my focus to dirt jumping at twin palms, mini glen and other spots around SoCal. The city would doze them down and we would show back up thanking them for turning over the dirt to make it easy for us to dig bigger and better jumps. My point being is that even if you get you ass handed to you racing cross country you could always go to the enduro scene, or vice versa. Plus most of the cross country people are only good on flat open roads or up hills. Plus theres no drug testing so who knows if they are doping. The real fun, and this really comes through in Mackys voice, is when you're bombing downhill. How many time do you have to come to a stop on the downhill because some roid-jock, who passed you 2 mins before on the hill climb, gets in your way by blocking the trail while walking their bike? Just food for thought.
Yeah, we've raced a LOT of Enduro (pretty much exclusively from 2013 to 2018) but now want to be able to race whatever kind of race sounds fun to us and a lot of the cool races recently have been XC so we're working to improve our XC fitness. Getting our butts kicked up the hill and then stuck behind people on the way down is just incentive to get better at climbing!
I think I stayed in a vacation rental in that same building last time I was in Moab. There was a pool and jacuzzi out back. The jacuzzi was key for recovery.
Super coverage as always. I really like that I can be in awe of everybody without feeling in the slightest bit jealous. I'd love to ride these trails but have no illusions about racing!
I decided to wear my heart rate monitor watching this one, crazy how my HR went up when passing and descents . I wonder if that counts for a training ride for me :) you guys are awesome keep it up!!
9:00 min... Macky your such a GOOD GOOD dude. You could have just said on your left... But NO, instead you let the competition know he can get an advantage by giving him a line... Ambassador to Bikers, Hero Level. 11:10... Syd, some of the "spoken words" you were carrying ("Can't do anything right") ain't serving you well, now that you're physically well. I got big hopes for you cause I'm recovering from a long injury too, years of working on it (more than 18 months). You keep me hopeful & motivated that someday I can get back to feeling GOOD on a bike. Some self critique & evaluation is always part of it, but remember sister and believe in the fact that you're a PRO!!! 9th ain't NOTHING to sneeze at, I'd be lucky to finish that course, let alone race it. You got the health back... I'm betting the confidence & the fun comes back too!!
Well done any day when you can ride your bike and come back for solid finish is a win in anyone's book just like anything at the moment it's a rebuild after COVID, smile laugh and enjoy it , because you guys have a lot to smile about !!👍👍😊😊
I love your race videos. Unfortunately this us how I am going to get my race fix for a few months after crashing out of The Pedaler's Bash in Bentonville. Keep 'em coming!
That cut back from Macky finishing to Syd groaning "I'm deaaaad" was QUALITY stuff. I've never raced bikes but in trail running races I've had days like Syd had where I passed people on climbs and descents but got passed left and right by people on the flats. I would get so frustrated... and sometimes I would zone out into "wow what a nice trail" and forget to race and lose my pace and have a good time but terrible results haha
@Syd-I just want to pass on what my I have worked through regarding negative self talk. I was as bad, down right horrible to myself. It took a while but I have adopted a policy that if I can’t be positive I can be neutral or quite but I can’t be negative to myself. You’ve come a long way give yourself credit for that during the race. This doesn’t mean you can’t critique yourself but do it constructively after you have time to regroup your thoughts. You got this!
I am really pleased to hear its normal to question racing the closer the race gets. I am always questioning it „is it worth it“ or „its gonna be so hard I am gonna be so tired lets just quit and go for a fun ride“ :D Thats when I try to remeber how a finished race feels. It really got harder since I started racing with a offical racing licence thats mostly because I am stressing myself..maybe its better to get back to the „just for fun“ hobby class..
Don't question a race, either do or don't do, either is ok. Prepare well, both physically and mentally and race. Once you get over the start and adrenaline starts flowing into the body than all will be well. Concentrate, make good discissions, learn. I'm getting a bit old now (69), but I miss the thrill of the chase.
Have to say, I hate xc racing, well pretty much all racing, but this was pretty motivating and at least for me, one of your better videos. Trail looked like a blast!
You guys should definitely do the Grizzly 100k this fall. It’s a super challenging race with over 10k feet of climbing at elevation. Come try and take out the 4x winner Chad Hall. I’m one of the even organizers so let me know! We’d love to have you guys out!!
Cash prizes for top finishers of mens and women’s.. last year mens winner got back over $1,000. It’s a great atmosphere and a great race.. arguably the best mtb race in California.
What kind of air pressure do you have to run to hit those rocks and drops like you do? So much speed and pounding on the tires and rims but they hold up really well. Thanks for the inspiration.
You guys are awesome! Don’t be hard on yourself Syd you kicked ass on that race. Where do you guys get those stem caps? I’d love to get one to represent the 505!
We just don't really drink alcohol at all. It's not that we're against it or don't drink, we just almost never drink. It also tends to show recovery times because of dehydration.

I love seeing Macky’s sportsmanship interacting with the other racers!
I flatted out on the climb before baby steps on this stage. Syd, along with half the race pack, was very nice taking the time to ask me if I was ok as she passed me. The vibe of this whole race sportsmanship at it’s finest.

🤪🤪
Absolutely wonderful video, I gotta say though, the Stegosaurus drawing was my favorite! lol
I don't race anymore so for some reason I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching the "suffering". Good stuff 🤘
Macky you are a beast on the downhills
Understatement!!
You are a wonderful couple. Your fair play goes off the scale. Really enjoyable channel.
Looks so fun! I wanna do this next year. Great video!!!
You should do it! It's a great event!
Time for a Ryan takes Syd & Macky bike packing?! Keep up the good work the 3 of you!
Good to see you here Ryan.
wow, great Job. nice sportsmanship when you offer one of the racers to follow you on the descent as you know the trail well.
Syd, I loved the Positive-self-talk at 11:05 ;D ;D ;D This time, I could not agree LESS with you :)))
Good job Macky. I would be proud to be the jackrabbit in the headlights lapping with Pete Stetina. 👍🏴☠️
The Boss descends like no one else -- if he offers you a pull latch on! And Syd is truly getting better every race. Well done y'all!
Too funny, "I can catch him" as he pulls away!
You're so polite when you pass! Nice to see. :)
Love watching both of you and your Dad as well! It won't be long and you both will be back to where you want to be, thanks for sharing!
Great job guys! Syd, you crack me up! The dialog you were having with yourself was hilarious. The two of you truly embody the competitive spirit, never give up attitude. Very. very, inspiring.
I've been racing for 20 years and I get butterflies when you guys are toeing the line!
@6:45, everybody else walking their bike: Mackey comes along and pops up like nothing.
Awww Syd, we love ya. Don't beat up on yourself so hard. You're doing awesome!
I love the subtitles that said "grumble grumble". Great video and great job out there on stage 2.
I discovered your channel less than two weeks ago, and after finishing watching this video, I decided to start supporting you via Patreon... This is the ONLY youtube channel I'm supporting, this should tell a lot of how much I appreciate the content you create. Keep up the excellent work!! :D
Greetings from the Republic of Panama,
Alessandro
That means a lot Alessandro! Thank you so much!
You guys are too nice on passing…I’d be yelling STRAVAAAA
The way you're telling this story is very compelling. Thanks for the motivation.
Look at the two of you......both finishing in the top 10 and stuff. No small feat for the first race of the season. A sign of great things to come, indeed. Well done, congrats, and looking forward to watching more of your successes throughout the season!
Macky keeping up with World Tour is pretty damn cool. (we'll give you a pass on the million watt finish)
Awesome work both of you - SO fun to watch. Macky hanging on to a World Tour road pro was awesome!
Thank you Patreon team 👍
Super well done both of you! Syd I hope next ride you also feel the step upwards in living the ride. Sometimes you make progress but it does not feel that way while doing it, you're on the way up again!
Macky: being in the position of racing the legendary Peter Stetina to the finish line means you are right up there, great performance
Macky’s pace on the descents is unreal!
Rough day, but paving the way for greater days to come. That was a most-excellent outro to close the clip, though. Congrats for that.
Hi Syd and Macky, some riders from my country of Trinidad and Tobago were there in this race . David hacksaw, Jason Costello,Ryan Chin and others. Think I heard Ryan Chin name at 18:47
Amazing you folks made up so much ground on descents!

I'm not sure if you guys have new cameras, but the footage was sharp! Thank you for sharing your racing footage. You are my favorite mtb channel!
Wonderful play by play, it's nice to sense your pain 😩
Awesome- you guys are Enduro racers…so doing that well in an XC stage race is being more awesome!! Nice work -keep it up!
keep it going guys..remember to keep it fun or it turns into a chore. Good luck!!
You guys are awesome, You keep me inspired and motivated to keep getting on the bike.
I think I stayed in a vacation rental in that same building last time I was in Moab. There was a pool and jacuzzi out back. The jacuzzi was key for recovery.
Good work, Syd and Macky.
Super coverage as always. I really like that I can be in awe of everybody without feeling in the slightest bit jealous. I'd love to ride these trails but have no illusions about racing!
Hate it when it's windy. And that stage looked hard work definitely not a race to do without alot of training. Both done really well 👌👍
You guys work so hard. Well done and thanks for sharing the highs & lows.
I decided to wear my heart rate monitor watching this one, crazy how my HR went up when passing and descents . I wonder if that counts for a training ride for me :) you guys are awesome keep it up!!
Lol not sure anyone has tried this before, so thanks for the data 😂😂
Head winds blow!! Great riding to guys!! Riding came to a slowdown in the blue of Washington since it sno310 inches at my place!!
Great job you two! Also, LOVE the Mateo's salsa love. Best jarred salsa out there.

You do so many things right Syd! You're awesome!
I love your race videos. Unfortunately this us how I am going to get my race fix for a few months after crashing out of The Pedaler's Bash in Bentonville. Keep 'em coming!
Oh no!
Hey you guys I enjoyed that so much. Syd you're doing good girl!!
That cut back from Macky finishing to Syd groaning "I'm deaaaad" was QUALITY stuff. Same for me, i keep people behind on ups and downs but on flats it feels like they go turbo 😅
Awesome job you guys! Glad to see you both spinning it again.
nICE JOB. You both are super inspiring and great together.
Such good work from both of you.
Compliments from Pete Stetina. Doesn't get better than that!
you are absolutely my favourite athletes
Hard one but good job to both of you! Both of your are crushing in on the descent it's crazy!
We stayed at the same condo complex last year! Crazy.
Great footage, was there the same weekend, both of you are amazing on the descents!
keep it up. Thank you and I love all of your merch. I am about to order more

I Love Klondike Bluffs.
What a nice video guys!!!, greetings from your fan in Argentina!!!
Flat with a head wind is my kind of race. One of the few cases where being 100kg is an advantage.
Best knees in MTB Syd 🤭😂 Haven’t had the opportunity to see yours yet Macky. So Syd wins lol
Her's are nicer 😁
Next time you are hanging w/ Pete ask him to tell you stories about his Grandpaw Roy & the Whale.
Well done you 2 . Mistake free race .
Have you guys ever heard of Brasil Ride? It is a seven day MTB marathon similar to cape epic. I hope to do it one day. You guys should look into it.
I love what you do but I think you should get a follow drone to show us the snazzy bikes. Thanks for the content
Great vid...keep it up!
Pete laid down the Watts at the end. Nice ride.
Can you do a segment on bike setup?
Great decent brother!!
You guys are amazing 🤩
Race on 🤘

Macky runs 24psi in the front, 29psi in the back and I am more like 19 and 25
You guys are awesome! Don’t be hard on yourself Syd you kicked ass on that race. Where do you guys get those stem caps? I’d love to get one to represent the 505!
They're from Santa Fe Brewing company but I think they don't make them anymore because they stopped bottling.
@@sydandmacky oh that’s too bad. Good luck on the next stages!
I was curious what GoPro settings you use. The results are amazing.
We do 4k superview, 30fps, 100 bitrate with hyper smooth
Much appreciated!
Passed Pete Stetina. Damn.
How do you think on tire choice in this kind of terrain? Lighter XC or more to Trail/AM?
We go for light XC casing because while there are lots of rocks, they aren't especially sharp.
I ride for fun that seems insane
What do you guys drink during the race? If its not just water? Thanks!
Skratch labs active hydration mix!
what bike are you using for this race?
makes me want to do a race..lol
Be interested to know what bar width Macky is running Xc ??
760mm I believe
Do you all avoid alcohol around race days? Do you feel it makes a difference?
We just don't really drink alcohol at all. It's not that we're against it or don't drink, we just almost never drink. It also tends to show recovery times because of dehydration.
I really want you guys to switch your suspension sponsorship so Syd can race on a SID.
Lol
How do you fund your dedication to mountain bike racing? Are you backed by a pro racing team?
We have a number of sponsors who pay us as well as income from TH-cam and Patreon.
Jackrabbit, or maybe Mackrabbit.
Are you guys satisfied with "Squirt"?
Yup been using it for 12 years now!
I got a real good life from the stegosaurus.
I'm glad someone appreciated that!
