- Portal Trail in Moab is quite insane. The exposure is something else. You should be confident in your abilities before adventuring there. Buy Propain Bikes here and support the channel: bit.ly/3JxpkuN

I appreciate that as a pro you walked the death section. Setting a good example for the rest of us.
Yeah Remy is perhaps one of the most skilled and intelligent out there and he didn’t like the feeling it gave him. Smart man, live to ride another day!👍
I really think that part of "rider intelligence" is knowing when to back away from doing a feature and placing personal safety above any sort of achievement.@@john_casey
Ummm this trail has been around for decades. @@john_casey
@@john_casey in his defense, he is a world-class mountain biker. if this trail was not on the edge of a cliff, it would be a piece of cake. I believe the trail is easy for him, but there is always the risk of the cliff. Its like someone walking 2 feet from a cliff. they are perfectly good and capable of walking, but the cliff just makes it risky.
I have a buddy who's ridden that entire section, which Ive walked twice. He's an epic rider and local mtb guide... but still, I would NEVER! I don't even want to watch anyone do it.
I'm almost 1000 miles from where you are, in the safety of my home in Colorado, sitting at my kitchen table, eating breakfast in my pajamas, feet firmly planted on the ground... AND I'M LEANING TO MY RIGHT as I watch this.
In the early days of the Canyonlands Fat Tire Fest Rim Cyclery was the center of the Moab mountain biking universe. Someone had recently fallen off the Portal and Rim had their smashed GT LTS hanging out front to warn us (before the signs) about the risk on Portal Trail. The exposure hasn't changed but the trail is much harder now than it was 30+ years ago. Dirt erodes and rocks move. Thankfully trail crews have armored and stepped sections that were troughs in the past. This is the finest POV video I've seen of Portal. Chapeau Rémy.
I still have my Rim visor hat from 1992. I don’t recall the GT LTS, but Portal still loomed large in everyone’s minds, esp as we had just started riding Rock Shox Mag 21. Glad to see Portal still rocking!
Rémy is my mtb spirit animal.
One of the kids on my college cycling team died there ~25 years ago. He was a risk taker, went for a jump without having ridden the trail before and it wasn't a jump, it was a turn. He made the landing however many hundred feet down. He landed it, but his chest hit his handlebars and his head kept going and he broke his neck and died. We know that he landed it because he was still clipped in.
moral of the story: Remy gives real good advice at the start of this video.
Remi saying "I feel like I'm skilled" is along the same lines as Kevin Durant saying "I think I'm pretty good at basketball".
I think I would have to walk Portal, and even then it's sketchy. I walked the white line trail in Sedona and that was enough for me. Portal is certifiable.
There is beauty in movement. I love watching you guys maneuver the bikes through the technical sections. It's impressive and inspiring! I wish I could ride bikes every day.
The guy in front steers more with his back wheel than the front.
What a treat for the hikers that got to see the two of you ride sections of that trail. Watching you ride the cliff sections, I panicked and almost fell off my couch!
When Remy is scared to do something, mere mortals shouldn't even consider looking at it LOL. Great work, Remy, for again confirming the insanity of Portal. Good stuff!
Remy that trail is nuts! I wouldn't even want to walk that one part without my bike, the exposure even on the part you guys were riding is no joke, I've done trails with exposure to cliffs but it's hard packed trail and really solid ground, that whole area just looks like it could slide off the edge, that one corner is just like nah
The rock after the sign has a suprisingly high number of pedal strike and chainring marks on it, crazy.
If Remy walks the bike I'm walking my bike for sure ...
If he’s walking I’m not even not going. Risk/reward ratio not there.
Drew flows through the tech! Nice to watch style like that moving through what is basically rubble.
bravo Remi...live to ride another day!
Phil Kmetz ride on this trail is well worth a watch too.
The second half is the coolest part, so unique.
It's not long after getting into MTB that you hear about Moab and Portal. It carries a huge prestige as a trail, definitely one of the craziest trails in the 4 corners area. Gets my adrenaline and HR going even just watching footage of it. Awesome job though Rémy, made it look totally easy and approachable. Glad, you made it down safe!
Dicey! I love the random guy ripping through there.
loved the comment at 7:22. In that I ride this trail, knowing what was coming up next. Great ride.
This Ride Heart Stopping Sick!! Keep Safe on the next Ride
Moab is such a gnarly area. So much cool stuff for off roading whether hiking, biking, jeeping, or horseback.
you know , we all love you Remy , please stay safe
Pretty sure the 200 ft reference on the sign was how far you should walk your bike down the trail for safety. Not the cliff height. That trail is crazy and even scarier in person!
Oh it could be
@@remymetailler it def is
Surprised they don't have chains as a guide rope anchored on the wall to the right.
Some hiking trails do that in the Canadian rockies.
Rode it years ago on a 26 inches hardtail with no dropper post of course, that was interesting 😅
Same
Usually when I watch Remy's videos, I think, no way could I ride like that.
This time I was thinking, that trail looks far more my cup of tea.
However this was the first video of Remy's where I held on to my chair whilst watching him ride.
That cliff edge and long drop to certain death if you flubbed a section twisted my insides.
Kudos to you guys for being sensible and walking a section, despite your incredibly skill levels. As always, setting a good example.
Merci Remy de partager avec nous cette expérience! Au delà du trail simplement incroyable et des skills que tu sais nous montrer dans chaque vidéo, la toile de fond et le décor autour sont juste magnifiques!
A perfect example of a not super gnar trail ( more tech ) that becomes SO GNAR because if its exposure consequences. The mental game is real, ive seen remy ride stuff more dangerous by the same exact margins the difference being its got a fall away or your body shredded on rocks, exact same outcome if you miss your line, just not quite as in your face as this, ideal the relief when there's boulders down slope of you in those initial pockets, like the mountains cradling you before the !!!!!!!! Great video as always Remy
6:25 first "not today death " moment
remy x portal is the collab we needed
I have watched portal "rides" several times..mostly walkers with bikes. You are the first video where I see it is someone actually riding it. Scary trail!
Its beautiful, thats for sure.Great job 👍
Thanks for all the tipps and the insane sends 🔥
No problem!!
Awesome!!! love it!!!!
Stunning video, and I agree with you. Some trails, you only have to ride once.
It's filed away, in the, WTF was I thinking, folder!
Used to ride that in the early 90s on a ht. Falling was not an option. We just rode it..and rejoiced with beers..and im still here to redo..
That looked REALLY dangerous! I had to watch this video in two installments I was so scared!
Thanks Remy for this. I will continue to dab that trail section for the rest of my long life.
Great video. Looks puckering. I've pushed myself in rock climbing and skiing but when it comes to biking I'm just there to get a workout and an enjoyable downhill. I enjoy watching guys like you push the limits.
Badass! Both of you. Bravo!
insane !!!!! Remy you are awesome.
Thanks for making this video Remy!! We rode this trail earlier this year as part of the long Mag7 trail route, and it was very satisfying to get down staying very focused on every move. You are an excellent ambassador for MTBing!!! 🤙🏽
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don't think I could ever do that trail... I've seen those that do the whole thing... no dab's. Absolutely crazy.
Awesome video. Thanks a lot. I could hear that you were working really hard.!
15:02 so fun!
Nice send and such an epic zone to ride! Sent that section with a busted rear linkage a few years back. Wish I had some rear suspension for that one!!! 😆
Impressive riding, and excellent clip.
Walking the last sketchy rock detail was extremely pro, thanks bro.
A real crazy line, I'm most impressed that you don't hit the rock in the narrow passes.
Nicely done!
Eres un poco flipao, Remy, con todos los respetos.
wow amazing, scared me from the comfort of my couch :)
thank you for sharing
Been there, rode that, have it burned in my mind. (I may have walked a “few” more sections than you 😂). I do want to go back and try with my 29er. Last time was 26” wheels.
Prompts to you!! Loved the introduction 😊 👍💪
when i was there i thought about trying to ride that trail, i was with my girfriend and sadly she is a beginner so i decided to stay away from it not only for her sake but for mine as well, riding that alone is now without a doubt not a smart idea! I am happy to have my hesitations confirmed 😂
Next time!
I mean people have ridden the craziest part? another epic video 👌👌
awesome!!! love it!!!!
Thanks Remy for another Cool vid. I feel like i gainee some confidence riding that trail now that i’ve watched this vid.
Awesome. Thanks for this
Very nice trail my friend, very challenging & scary too, enjoy ride & keep safe always, from athens, greece.
Man what a video! what a style!!!!
My bike would have so many dings and chips after falling off that 1000ft drop
One of my favorite trails!! I’ll have to try that inside line on the switchback next time, 😀
Portal is so sick. The whole Mag 7 leading to it is too.
it's as gnarly as it sounds!!! That corner has quite a few dead mtb'ers attributed to it
The speed you guys are going is insane! thanks for making me sweat without a workout! wheew! \m/
Scariest trail I've ever been on! But it's a ton of fun other than that walking section. Shocking that anyone would try to ride that.
200ft is the free fall! You bounce 1000ft down to the road.
yep exactly. Why..
i saw you in your car driving down half nelson road
YOU GUYS ARE NUTS LOL. MY TUMMY HURTS JUST WATCHING YOU!!!!! THATS INSANE!!!!
Been there, walked that. But the rest of the Mag 7 trail system leading up to Portal, including Gold Bar Rim, is a spectacular ride.
Remy, you are amazing! And yes, I was squirming in my seat just watching you ride a lot of this trail! Yikes!!
Wow...that was so awesome...you just got a new subscriber 👍👍
Thanks for the sub!
Sick trail!! 😮 I would love this!!
Nicely done. I think this is a trail I’ll enjoy from the video only!
Big Fan Rémy Bro 🇮🇳 Love From India
This trail is insane! Nice riding
i was like ouch. ouch ouch, with those knarly rocks, i can feel the tires lol
It’s a rad trail, rode it 5years ago and to be honest I agree one and done
Cheers 🍺🍺
Scared to walk close to the death cliff, two seconds later riding feet away from a bigger cliff
If I ever ride portal I’ll be walking the tricky exposed sections I reckon. Other than that bit of mortal consequence cliff riding, it looks just plain super fun, and technically challenging at a high level
Les gars, vous êtes des virtuoses et ces superbe de vous voir pédaler dans ce décor de dingue.
Did a night ride in the George Washington National Forest back east, stopped to see what the faint red flashes were down by my feet. Turns out they weren’t fire flys, but tail lights from cars on the highway far below.
I remember “riding” that on a hardtail with cantilever brakes and a Softride suspension stem. Youth and ignorance rules, haha! Cheers to you!
Nuts! I got scared just watching it.
Definitely some scary parts and I'm nowhere as skilled as you, but for some reason I've been 3 times.
I think it's worse after doing the rest of Mag 7 especially Gold Bar. Just so tired and danger-conscious by the time you get to Portal.
Yes.
Couldn't agree more. Such an epic ride from top to bottom though!
It was fun last Sunday as a finish for Mag 7
Very defficult track... And very beautiful) thank you for nice content!)
You just earned a new subscriber my friend that was a narly fuckin sesh
I just noticed I was leaning to the right while watching! Ha!! Insane.
OMG, as you ventured closer to the edge of the cliff on the left, I found myself leaning over to the right just watching this! 🤣😱
Glad you enjoyed it!
First of your videos where I was actually genuinely scared.. 😮
Hey Remy, this is totally sick, you are crazy (but seen in a positive way!!) WOW, I wouldn't even go there!
Hey, thanks!
This made my feet tingle.
I couldn’t even walk around that without a bicycle and safety harness. Got nothing like that in Florida. 😊
My hands are sweating just watching the video!
That’s beautiful- but a firm no way I’m ever doing that trail- but beautiful trail and area. If not so exposed I’d try
You ride so well before the big old roller, then super hero speed is released when you’re on the front! 😮
Wow! Id love to do that trail...much slower though and I'd probably be walking my bike alot too
Always wanted to ride it but the pedal up is a no go for the rest of my crew. Great to watch as always! Cheers!😊
Next time, ride up to Gold Bar Rim and across the Gold Spike trail to access Portal.
The craziest part of the video is watching Remy walk his bike. 😂😂😂😂
Ive ridden this trail twice 1st time i was put riding captain ahab just before and ran into some base jumpers jumping off the liff below the parking lot. They called me the crazy one for riding portal. Second time i went with some buddies that wanted to sky dive down there and again the professional sky divers called me crazy.
Portal is a great trail! I've only walked the exposure portion and even that made me nervous. I find it even difficult to watch this video. The downhill after the the famous rim is a downhill chunk-fest! That is a difficult part of Portal, but very fun and very rideable!
I will be here for all non ebike related content. Sick video! 😎👍
Oh i do some Ebiking too sometimes
