Thanks! Are you on facebook? I have a group over there and I would love to see some pictures of your 951. facebook.com/groups/128264574553699/?ref=group_header
This is fantastic. Thank you. Would it be nuts to fuse this twice ? That is, instead of joining the high and low power leads to the inline fuse, you'd instead run a fuse holder (say 30a) for each high and low beam feeds/relays? Probably a belt and suspender overkill, but it seems like a nice safety feature in case a fuse burns out -- you'd either have high or low beams.
It's a great idea actually since if the fuse blows you still have either high or low beam. I started doing that after building these a while, but also haven't had any issue with the single fuse. Good Luck!
Very professional-looking. Thanks. I wonder how much less of voltage drop you have now that you have the relays. It'd be interesting to see what the voltages are on the headlight itself pre and post-relay mod.
Thanks! I really meant to show the voltage difference but I just ran out of time making the video. Luckily, I built one for the silver 944 in an episode a while back and demonstrated this. Here's a link! th-cam.com/video/G_qwdu_5Fnw/w-d-xo.htmlm57s

Hey Brent, I was wondering if you may have ran into a similar problem with your 924. After installing the new headlight harness, my high beam indactor will dimly light up with the factory fog lamps turned on via the switch on the center console. The indactor works as it should otherwise when the high beams are actually on.
Hi Matt, I've installed ones I've built on a 1988 924S, 1984 944, 1987 924S, and a 951 so far... and haven't seen this issue yet. I also had a car here with a harness he ordered from Amazon and I don't think he had any issues. Not sure what the issue could be. I hope that helps!
Where do you recommend mounting the new relays? In this video I see them wedged under the coolant hose but is that a temporary mounting spot or permanent?
@@edredas Is there any way for the new wiring to the passenger's side headlight so that it's concealed within the nose panel somewhere? On my early car it seems that there's no easy route for the wiring to pass from one side to the other. It looks like the stock harness passes behind the bumper, possibly, but not sure how much I would need to remove to gain access to that passageway.
Master I have another problem my issue is driver side headlight doesn't work,is no voltage on the connector I fallow the cables and I tested before of the connector and no power , right is ok and anything else is working fog lights and the others I have power on the fuses can u help me,is anything I can do to make work quick ?
Hi, does the light not work on either the high or low beam or just one? If its both and the fuses look good then it could be the switch. I hope that helps!
Relays allow you to get more current to the lights. While they are almost critical for halogen headlights I don’t think it would make much of a difference for the tail lights. If the tail lights are super dim try cleaning the grounds. I hope that helps!
The stock wiring harness is very long with high resistance and gets even higher as things corrode with age. The stock harness is barely capable of supplying enough power for the stock 35 watt low beams. I measured somewhere around 11.5 volts when it needs to be around 13.5 to be bright enough to see. When you factor in adding H4 beams that have a 55 watt low beam, then the voltage is even lower and the resistance higher which could potentially cause a electrical fire. So this harness will not only make the stock sealed beams brighter but it is almost necessary if you want to run H4's. Otherwise you're not going to be getting the most out of them and they will still be dim. I hope that helps!
That said, this is mostly geared towards older cars like the Porsche 924 used in the video. If you talking about a newer vehicle from the 90's to present, then they come with equipped similar harness' and there isn't much to worry about. Like you mentioned then I would only bother with a heavier gauge wire if you were running 100+ watt bulbs. Thanks!
I will take one kit how can I get it ? I run with one problem right now I don't have any voltage on headlights no low beams on both sides the only thing is working on front is the high beam passenger side
Very clear step by step how to,wiring is some what complicated, thanks. My next project!!!
Thanks! Good luck with your harness!
Just got a 951. Really enjoy your videos! Thank you!!

Hey man !! My. Girlfriend Joan Rohrbach is looking to get on your FB on my behalf ! Major league 944 guy here 😄
Very nice work. Love the finished look.
Thanks!
Thanks Ed!
Thanks, just about to start a harness for my 84 944
Awesome! Good luck!
Okay im sold with this upgrade, it is completely reversable if you want.

@@edredas Thanks for the speedy response on such an old video. Really great info. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience!

Again another great and helpful video Edredas! what size of the nylon braided sleeve did you order? Thanks!f

Yup, I mount them under the coolant hose. I tried several locations before but under the coolant hose seems to work the best. I hope that helps!

@@hampsonlaboratory1363 You can take the bumper off and then you should be able to route it the same way the factory did.

I have always wondered if the headlight and tailight harnesses need to be relayed...or just having a fuse would be enough.

@@edredas Do you think its safe to use the relay to power both headlights and taillights then?
Great video man 👍.How much did everything cost you ?
I think it was around $80.
What gauge wire are you using?
I used 14 gauge wire for this harness, although I have built some 10 and 12 gauge.
My first question is..was it necessary..im guessing not unless high beams were in excess of 100 watts

Would you be interested in selling pre-made wiring harnesses?
Sure! They're not exactly cheap, but I could make them for about $150 shipped to the cont. US. Thanks!
