Nice to see you sing praises about the new Jimny. Suzuki's done a real good job here. The engine by today's standards looks agricultural but it is lighter than the old 1.3 litre.
There has been a bunch of nostalgia bait beautiful car designs recently. The Hondra Urban EV, Peugeot e-Legend and Alpine A110. Finally the automakers understand a car with distinctive character can actually be marketable.
That was a good recommendation to buy a Jimny from you two , i had a Suzuki Sierra in Australia in the 90s for 10 years with absolutely no problems , a bit bumpy and the 1.3 litre engine a bit under powered and the top gearing not really for motorways but it just kept going . On a related note, regarding the Autocar review - perhaps they have simply never driven something truly slow, like a Ford Ka Mk1 with the 1.3 Crossflow. Which isn't slow per se (0-60 of about 12secs, less if you have no sympathy) but as soon as you throw a passenger in there, you really need to be thinking ahead to maintain good progress. That's another car that has character and defies its apparent lack of amenities by just being enjoyable to be in and to tool around in. I've been following Suzuki's offerings over the last 30 years or so in the hope that they might have some corrosion protection one day which would make them desirable. Still watching and waiting.
thats autocar for you, if its a firm sports car they complain its harsh if its a soft car they complain its ill handling if its economical they complain its slow and if its fast they complain about fuel.
This video has just completely confirmed my need for this car, especially as they’re driving around my village. Cheap, utilitarian and built for off roaring without being completely horrific on the road. Suzuki have smashed it and built what is, basically, the best off roader without paying Land Rover money.
It all really comes down to the price. I can live with a lot as long as it's reliable and for a fair price. Seeing how popular this car has gotten, maybe Suzuki'll raise the msrp to make a quick buck? It's really all about the price
I'd love one of these just to have a car I can get properly muddy and not be so anal about keeping my daily driver in pristine condition. Having watched videos of the previous model doing things Land Rover's can't, I think this could be a lot of cheap fun. As an owner of a 2013 Suzuki Swift Sport, which in many ways has some similar features (cheap internal materials, inexpensive, a bit noisy and an absolute bloody hoot to drive near the redline along a twisty back road), I'd be confident this will be well screwed together in the ways that matter, my SSS has almost 110k miles on it and the only costs are a ton of fuel, a fair few sets of tyres and one set of pads and discs at the front. The rest is just servicing and a massive grin on my face every day!
When they say "Gypsy theme," (at 12:29) maybe they're talking about the old Maruti Suzuki Gypsy from the Indian market? That had a pretty spartan and rough/ resistant interior. Just spit balling.
I really love these kinds of videos. I drive a 2004 Landcruiser 3-Door (120) and it is still running well (150.000 km). But I think about the future, when this car won't run anymore, the jimny might be a good and cheap alternative. I saw the jimny the first time in Shizuoka (Japan) (north of Hamamatsu, where they produce it) and in an office building on the ground floor for demonstration (middle of July). I then proceeded to a local スズキ-shop which had the car and sat in there the first time. Yes, it looks much smaller in person than on the pictures, but in a cute way ^^. I am quiet tall, and could easily overlook the car. I love it as it is, but I still wonder, if something like that could also be a fully electric vehicle. I can imagine it being a difficult challenge make ladder frame chassis-cars into an electric car, without compromising the interior. I wonder if you can use the battery pack as primary means for stiffening the chassis, while still retaining the ladder frame (without as many ladders). I think 50 kWh wouldn't be a problem then (except for the weight maybe?). Consumption would be high I assume (due to the boxy shape). Maybe, in the future, there will be more offers of electric 4x4 vehicles. I am just curious.
Love these guys. Always enjoy the content from them. Looks like a great little truck. I had a look at a 1998 Jimny from Japan that was very nice. But right had drive. (A deal breaker as a family car.) They have nailed the styling of the new one. I’m now more disappointed with their 2013 decision to pull out of the Canadian market.
Buy one in the Netherlands. Our taxes are extremely high keeping the base price low. You don't pay our Infamous BPM tax if you export it if I am not mistaken.
My 2008 swift sport is stuck on km per litre, I think there is some elaborate way of pressing 5 buttons at once while sounding the horn to put it to mpg. The swift has done 120k now and still going, would love a Jimny.
Didn't the original Suzuki "Samurai" end up in US by some independent importer? I recall them being only available in Florida. Maybe somebody could import the Jimny as a novelty, since Suzuki no longer sells cars here. This new one is just so well done.
I’ve been driving Suzuki Samurais here in the US since 1986. The 2019 Jimny is clearly a descendent of the Samurai and earlier iterations. These ballerinas chatting from a perspective of prissy ignorance are so off point they’re ridiculous with their misguided expectations. The fact that they reviewed it without taking it off road speaks volumes.
Nice to see it's still a fun car, my mate had one of these for cheap off road giggles in about 1990, fun times! He ended up with a Lada Niva, I laughed when he bought the Lada but I was surprised at what an unstoppable little beast it was I think I remember a certain Mr. Smith green laning a Niva from coast to coast? You really should have ragged the Jimny round a field for a proper test though
Much like the Previous Jimmy ... I am sure, a few Japanese/other (bullet etc) nation tuning companies, will indeed produce low boost, Supercharger/turbo kits for her !.
I can't think of any big car you can have the same fun in. Is it just me or is this the same as small houses? Its always interesting to see how they have dealt with the lack of space ingeniously than a big house with no constraints
Damn it guys, I really didn't want to like this car as I like the old Jimny styling, now I want one but living in the US we have a 25 year wait. Maybe I'll have to move back to the UK to own one. Great review.
Hay guys..... grab your 2019 Jimny and your defender, and take it to an off road course. Do a comparison witj them both. That would be a truly EPIC VIDEO 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👊👊👊👊👊👊🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌✊✊✊✊✊✊✊😎😎😎😎

I am just curious.
so this and an alpine, is the perfect analog and cool garage ✌️
So much cooler than the AMG G-wagen
Love these guys. Always enjoy the content from them.
Looks like a great little truck. I had a look at a 1998 Jimny from Japan that was very nice. But right had drive. (A deal breaker as a family car.) They have nailed the styling of the new one. I’m now more disappointed with their 2013 decision to pull out of the Canadian market.
Buy one in the Netherlands. Our taxes are extremely high keeping the base price low. You don't pay our Infamous BPM tax if you export it if I am not mistaken.
I have a Suzuki Ignis Sport (in the same blue colour) and I ache to have a new Jimny to compliment it. Suzuki’s are so underrated.
I wished Honda would finally release something with a bit of character again. If not this thing is high on the list.
Best Jimny review, and funny ! Ammo box with manga paintings...Hahahahaha
It's an honest car. I like it.
Very good down to earth review!!
Wow! they are driving around Bedfordshire through Shefford and Ireland !
I look at this Jimmy as the ultimate atv with heat and air!
I heard the new JL has a removable bluetooth speaker. That should give you an idea of what jeeps are turning into. This is simple. Bravo.
Two enthusiastic guys in a cool car!
Nice to see it's still a fun car, my mate had one of these for cheap off road giggles in about 1990, fun times!
He ended up with a Lada Niva, I laughed when he bought the Lada but I was surprised at what an unstoppable little beast it was
I think I remember a certain Mr.
Great review. A bit of a random question, but really intrigued why you tend to drive a lot around Mid Beds ?. Noticed it with the Alpine as well
The sort of car to share garage space with a rolls Royce, range rover and Ferrari.
That would be a truly EPIC VIDEO 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👊👊👊👊👊👊🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌✊✊✊✊✊✊✊😎😎😎😎
usa needs jimny!
Gypsy is the LWB version of Jimny in India ... Much like the old samurai.
brilliant vid, really want one. i think they are or were called gypsy in india, maybe thats where the gypsy feeling comes from..😂
I’m a Defender owner too and I’m looking for an excuse to buy a Jimny too!
Robert Pearson so am I but I’ve decided i’m too old for excuses, I’m buying it so to scratch the itch.
I don't like spending money on new cars and ordered one. For no particular need or reason, I just wanted one really bad. We only live once.
The GEN 4 Jimnys are now selling for silly money in the UK, £32k in some dealerships...😞
