I always wanted one of these back in the day but never had the cash. The music mags of the time had me almost literally drooling at the promise of incredible polyphony, layered patches & immense, cosmic sound. Years later I was able to afford a second hand Korg Wavestation EX. A beautiful instrument, to be sure, but now I can finally get my hands on the JD. Thanks Roland!
There’s no chorus on the 8000!? I’ve had my 8080 for best part of 18 years and it’s such a key part of the sound of a Jp strings and of course the super saw leads but so much more too!
That is definitely no lie....I have two JD's, one that has the glue problem and is unusable, and the other I replaced the key bed on myself with a new one about 5 years ago (luckily before Roland stopped carrying them) because of that issue (I had actually bought it a year or two before that and finally did the replacement once the problem got bad enough). I was unaware at the time just how widespread of a problem the glue issue was in general, or else I'd have bought two new key beds instead of just one. And it was quite expensive too, as I recall, I think about $300, maybe more. However, I was just thinking this evening that I could actually get a cheap MIDI controller at some point and use it with the unusable JD I mentioned, so who knows I may go that route at some point with that one. But even so, with the one I replaced the key bed on, it would probably just be a matter of time before that bed wears out or develops a problem not related to the glue, which would necessitate repairs, etc., if parts or keys would even be available. That may just be an eventual hassle, and more expense than what I've already incurred, so because of that I'm considering getting that one professionally cleaned up and looked over at a Roland service outlet I've used in the past and will probably try to sell it on Ebay or Reverb at that point.
@@soepil Yep, and that's exactly my concern with the one I replaced the key bed on...once that one goes I'll have to resort to using it via MIDI, as I mentioned doing with my 2nd JD, because parts may not even be available anywhere for it...especially given that the key beds were discontinued years ago. I must admit that I'm intrigued with the new VST, of which I have no experience with those, as I'd prefer the original synths themselves, but I was curious if there's some way to use a PCM card with it or perhaps in the future if they'd offer that capability. And I mention that not just for those of us who have PCM cards with our own sound creations on it from the JD, but really more so with the JV-1010 card sets they came out with for the JD-800. For instance, I have the Brass card set and really enjoy a particular brass section patch on it...but if those JV cards can't be utilized with that VST software then those types of card sets would be pretty useless, which would be a shame. I'm sure the coveted Strings card set has some very nice sounds on it, since that's been a popular and tough to find card set to obtain for years. At any rate, for grins I recently looked online to see if an adapter exists to convert PCM to USB or the like (because I can't think of any other way they'd utilize those card sets or PCM cards with the VST), but I couldn't find any. What they could do at some point, if they haven't started on this already, is sample/convert the waveforms (and patches from the accompanying patch ROM cards that came in each set) from those original JV card sets the way they did with the original factory JD-800 patches for the VST itself, and incorporate them that way into the VST so we could have access to those.

The JD-800 was a very desirable instrument, and still is. When Roland released the JP-8000, it was quite a bit of anticlimax compared to the JD-800. Oh well, everybody had to compete with the Nord Lead at that time, so we got what we got. Thankfully, Roland is back to producing desirable instruments again, like the Jupiter-X and Juno-X. By the way, I don't really understand why so many synthesizer enthusiasts frown upon the sample playback technology. All the D-70, JD-800, JV- and XV-series are sample playback, and they are all fantastic.

Roland, will we ever get an accurate software rendition of JP-8000? I've been waiting for years, and ready to through my money at it. I'm certain I'm not the only one :)
@Sergei Orlov - If you want the real sound, then you've gotta buy the real thing. It's an emulation of the sounds created by the JD-800, it's not the complete engine. I now own the Korg Wave Station and M1 soft synths, and they sound "good enough" compared to their original counterparts, but never the less, the hardware sounds the way it does for a reason. Mind you, the hardware can't be played within a DAW. So be happy with what Roland is offering.
Like many others, I've been waiting for a JD800/JD990 emulation for years now. Thanks for investing the time in this. A really big part of the sound of these earlier digital units came from the D/A converters. Still holds true today, AD/DA converters sound different... But never more so than those heady days of the late eighties and into the early nineties, with Burr Brown DACs and their contemporaries adding a wonderful spice to the signal, and sometimes needing calibration to account for gain and offset errors and such stuff. It's cool to have the raw waveforms and emulation of the synth signal path, but does this plugin also emulate the DAC output stage? Internal 32kHz (?) sample rates? Anti-aliasing filters? Also - the JD800 was monaural per patch, no panning on the sort of beautiful pads that you get from the JD990. Does this plugin support panning per tone?
Looks and sounds good. Now, I'll say the same thing I said about the JD-08: where's the backward compatibility? Five-part multitimbrality? Where are the SL-JD80 expansion card waveforms and patches? Where's the proper one-sound-per-key "Special Setup" for drums? And above all else, where's the JD-series SysEx compatibility? Seems odd to have crippled the software in this way.
This would be a highly desirable hardware synth in the modern era. I can't think of any modern synth with the same level of complexity and hands-on approach, even with the odd digital filtering. Working in the plugin environment is just kind of... fiddly
You can pick them up on eBay, but finding one in good condition at a reasonable price is the problem. The owners seriosly overprice them and most likley are already suffering from the Roland Red glue of death.
@@maydaygoingdown5602 Oh I wouldn't buy the original. I've heard so many bad things about the keybed and other problems. But a modern version world no doubt fix most off the issues
this is fantastic but considering this is based on the zenology emulation of the hardware, i think missing the expansion card presets was a huge missed oppurtunity. would even pay additional to have them. otherwise, great product, roland!
Is it DCB or ZEN technology? I’m asking because I’ve purchased JD 800 lifetime license in my Roland Cloud subscription to have JD 800 on my hardware Jupiter XM few months ago. But in this video it looks like that JD 800 is something new on Roland Cloud, although JD 800 model is available on Roland Cloud one year. Would you please explain me what is this if it isn’t Zen and what’s the difference between Zen model that I’ve purchased few months ago and this new one? Thank you!
OMG! I have been waiting 20 years for a VST of the JD800, I have a real one but always thought it would be awesome as a VST because of the possibilities of extending the features of it, please tell me that they made it possible to load in your own custom waveform's from wav files!!!
You should consider the option of buying the plugins instead of the subscription. I miss my original JD 800 and would buy this-but not interested in any subscription : )
@Conny Lindstrom - True. I'm willing to pay upwards of $200-$250 to own as opposed to "renting", because if Roland chooses to discontinue their soft synths, they can also deny subscribers from just buying the ones they like outright.
They are all for one time sale. They have been like that for some time. Prices range from $99 to $149. The JD-800 is $149 and you have the option to "test drive" it before you buy.
Hi Conny, you can purchase the JD-800 without subscription as a Lifetime Key for $149. A Lifetime Key is a single purchase license that is attached to your Roland Account, includes all future updates, and does not require a paid membership. Please check out more info on Lifetime Keys at this link: rolandcloud.com/support
@@rolandglobal I also did not know that this is possible. I have always assumed that you had to pay monthly or yearly for a subscription. Does this mean I could JD 800 and also the D50 as just the lifetime license keys and any other Roland VSTS??
Hi there, yes they can be purchased as Lifetime Keys without a subscription. Check out this page for more FAQs on Lifetime Keys: www.rolandcloud.com/support
It sounds great! A minor thing: the patch switch buttons are programmed different than the hardware version. Push the patch up button and the VST goes to the next patch. Push the patch down button and it goes to the previous patch. On the hardware version that's the other way around and thus confusing.
A great product, but I don't love the trend towards the cloud-based subscription model. So I really like that you can buy and download the synth separately.👍
Roland Corp, I don’t mean to change the subject here but PLEASE do the TD-30 V-Drums as a vst. They are absolutely my favorite electro drums and the SuperNatural vers of the drums in my FA keyboard sound nothing like them.
Many of the TD-30 nuances require the pads for position sensing and other articulation intelligence. It wouldn’t translate well with just a keyboard controller.
I can hear a lot of the synth patches on this that were used by Prefab Sprout on there brilliant from Langley Park yo Memphis album , played by Thomas Dolby
So how is this all transported to the verselab? Can I play these sounds directly on the verselab and controle it with my yamaha shs10? Is the sd card also upgradable with Windows 11?Is the sd card hot swappable with other Roland gear? When is the Zenbeats App working on the samsung s9 android? Or the verselab connected via android for sending data with the sd card or usb.
Dear peepz at Roland Cloud - Your server is down, and there seems to be no possibility to get direct support! All the plugins run on Demo mode because of this issue, which makes them nearly unusable, which is pretty shitty if you're using Roland plugins in a project that needs to be finished!!! Please fix this ASAP!!!
@@NatLifeSounds Thank you for your reply. I am waiting for the Fantom update which will add the JD-800 inside the Fantom. Right now it seems that it can only be used via Zenology on a DAW. Great to hear that you say it is 100% identical to the original
1:00 so is the VST using wavetables / wav samples like the original D50 / JD-800 ? or is its using 'virtual' synthesis to recreate/emulate these sounds w/ software only?
Lets hope it actually sounds and controls behave like a real deal, and not just software sampled waveforms with effect, which is what i hear from JV and XV plugins. I hope i`m dead wrong but from what i hear on sound demos it resemble a lot to real deal, but i cant hear that huge low end and high end which real hardware is famous for. Its nice to give JD flavor but it cant replace real deal.
Roland JD range then developed to JV and then XV. I bought the XV5080 VSTi because I once owned the hardware. I’m wondering what the benefit would be going back to a JD800?
When I had my JD, it was no use as a CC type controller, the sliders only sent Sysex and it would lock up frequently, there was a later revision (B?) that fixed that issue though. If those sliders had sent CCs it would be one of the best controllers in existence I reckon. I used one as my main/synth controller for over a decade and would have loved to have been able to use those sliders to map to VSTs.
Does anyone know if this can receive sysex from a real JD-800? I'm considering selling mine and if the cloud version can load my sounds then it becomes a bit of a no brainer!
Actually, I take it back. I did a test drive of it, and at 110% it is perfectly useable and the sliders are easy to use. I just don't follow their strange envelope architecture but I'll need to read up on it

The main issue I have with the VST is it doesn't have Tony Banks' "I Can't Dance" percussive sounds. I'm very surprised they didn't include it.
Prob copyright issues
@@muzikman2008 That can't be it as Roland owns the sounds
@@Darrin.Crawford yes, they do.. But Tony Banks wrote the "patch" that's his work..
It's like soundsets for any synth are owned by their designers... 😉
@@muzikman2008 No he didn't? It's a factory patch?
I hope you will continue in your way to reproduce all your hardware gear such D10, D70, U20, JD990, V-Synth, all JV, SRX, etc…
Why not 990? Left for the next time? As always.....
Under the hood the D50 was way more complex.
@@maydaygoingdown5602 Their about $2300 US atm S/H...
this is fantastic but considering this is based on the zenology emulation of the hardware, i think missing the expansion card presets was a huge missed oppurtunity. would even pay additional to have them. otherwise, great product, roland!
I love my real JD800 and I dream something like JD800 mark2 but in Any case thank you for this software version!!!
I used to love my JD800 🥰
Gimme a Boutique version pronto!
Sounds like the type of synth used in PS1 games and earlier RPGs during those days.
Thank you Roland! 👍
Outstanding!
great sound 🎹🦾⚔️🙂👍
Your preset manager is awesome!
OMG are you serious?? Finally... Thank you Roland!
Bought it immediately
Is it DCB or ZEN technology? I’m asking because I’ve purchased JD 800 lifetime license in my Roland Cloud subscription to have JD 800 on my hardware Jupiter XM few months ago. But in this video it looks like that JD 800 is something new on Roland Cloud, although JD 800 model is available on Roland Cloud one year. Would you please explain me what is this if it isn’t Zen and what’s the difference between Zen model that I’ve purchased few months ago and this new one? Thank you!
Dreams come true! 😎
my first synth too
Can you bring the JD 800 and perhaps the D-50 as a PlugOut on the System 8 Hardware Synth Platform??
Do we still have to log online every week to use roland vsts?
No. Once a month.
OMG! I have been waiting 20 years for a VST of the JD800, I have a real one but always thought it would be awesome as a VST because of the possibilities of extending the features of it, please tell me that they made it possible to load in your own custom waveform's from wav files!!!
Now do the MKS-80!! 😀
You should consider the option of buying the plugins instead of the subscription.
I miss my original JD 800 and would buy this-but not interested in any subscription : )
@Conny Lindstrom -
True.
Roland JP-8000 NEXT PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally giving me FF7 (Final Fantasy 7) vibes at 6:58 😁
Does this make JX8P redundant? Assuming software version exists
Roland R8 and D70 next?
only 64 presets? we need more than that.. but wow, this is amazing
There are actually 128 presets, and they'll probably release more soon.
Mandy Lane, you can make 5 songs using only one good preset. Limitation = creativity.
JP-8000 when please??
I can hear a lot of the synth patches on this that were used by Prefab Sprout on there brilliant from Langley Park yo Memphis album , played by Thomas Dolby
Great Software !!! Amazon Job
@Roland !!
That 1-1: Take Off -sound. Is it preset or self created sound?
Please fix this ASAP!!!
how to download roland juno d editor app on macbook pro m1
Will this arrive on Fantom platform?
Will the JD-800 be added to the Roland Fantom?
its on Zen Core already, so it's easily to load in Fantom ;)
@@NatLifeSounds How would one go about doing that? Do you mean the preset sounds or the full model with GUI, colors, and everything? Thank you.
@@TheAceReviews I mean Zen Core - JD800, I using it from Spring and it's 100% identical sounds to original
@@NatLifeSounds Thank you for your reply. I am waiting for the Fantom update which will add the JD-800 inside the Fantom. Right now it seems that it can only be used via Zenology on a DAW. Great to hear that you say it is 100% identical to the original
@@TheAceReviews ah, I thought that it was available for Fantom too?
Is there a difference between this and Zen Core JD-800?
@Жан Клон возможно, просто маркетинговый ход от Роланда тогда) не вижу особого смысла устанавливать ещё и Клауд версию
I compared them with some
Presets and I did not hear a difference.
Please Jd-800 model expansion update on fantom!! We need it Asap!!
1:00 so is the VST using wavetables / wav samples like the original D50 / JD-800 ?
or is its using 'virtual' synthesis to recreate/emulate these sounds w/ software only?
If you're using the MPC software. This doesn't work, it isn't compatible at the moment and MPC 2 SOFTWARE can't run it yet.
Prince liked using it
How is it on CPU??
Please add .syx patch support
WoW ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is great. I'm guessing JP8080 next.......
Its nice to give JD flavor but it cant replace real deal.
is there all the patches from jd990?
Roland JD range then developed to JV and then XV. I bought the XV5080 VSTi because I once owned the hardware. I’m wondering what the benefit would be going back to a JD800?
Would be nice to add the Ring Modulator algorhythms from the D50.
Are the drum kits in it? Does it load sysex?
Can i use my jd800 as midi controller? Does it losd sysex patches? Cool software reincarnation👍
@@weyoun6535 there was once a rumor that spectrasonics would implement it in their omnisphere vst as hardware preset.. i hope they do it
Increible
YES INFOSTYLE!
show simpley the spectrum and activity of the sound in action i think
it is a symbol and visual adapter to reality but not the focus, you are right
Does anyone know if this can receive sysex from a real JD-800?
I'm considering selling mine and if the cloud version can load my sounds then it becomes a bit of a no brainer!
Now we are talking.
JP8080 please...
A million sliders was a great feature in real life. On a computer screen...looks like a nightmare.
Exactly, imagine this on a laptop screen!
Actually, I take it back. I did a test drive of it, and at 110% it is perfectly useable and the sliders are easy to use. I just don't follow their strange envelope architecture but I'll need to read up on it
