    Removing the drain plug first makes changing the filter a lot less messy 😉

    I’ve got a 1300GT so this is REALLY helpful as I’m doing my oil change myself for the first time. Thanks Matt!

    If you make an aluminum foil trough under the filter you can usually get all the oil that comes out of the filter in the drain pan without getting it on the headers

    Great video ! The K1200 has the kickstand blocking the oil filter. Quite a challenge for a 71 year old man to balance a bike and remove a stuck filter at the same time.

      Don't you have a center stand?

    • @steves186
      @steves186 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Center stand was an option. Most don't have them.

    • @stephan8346

      Maybe a center stand is a good return on investment versus getting the oil changed from a dealer and/or seeing the bike lieing down on the floor 😮

    Can someone please explain why bmw k1200s have a oil reservoir instead of wet sump?
    There got to be a reason for it I mean.

  • @robertbrandywine
    @robertbrandywine 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sight windows on a wet sump engine are a pain to look at because of how low they are, which is why I prefer a dip stick. You've got it easy on a dry sump engine.

  • @mylord9340

    Thanks for your video. I followed your directions and also opened the oil plug to let the oil drain from the bottom. The K1300S is supposed to take 4 liters with the oil filter changed. I added 4 liters but the oil level stayed beneath the minimum marker next to the plastic tube. Does that mean I need to add more oil until the level reaches between the minimum and maximum markers?

    • @MattsMotoWoRX
      @MattsMotoWoRX  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it’s on the low side just add a little bit

    • @mylord9340
      @mylord9340 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MattsMotoWoRX I'll do that. Apparently between the low and high marker takes half of a liter. The oil level on mine is currently about the same distance but below the low level marker. I will add between 1/4 and 1/2 liter of oil. Thanks again.

    • @mylord9340
      @mylord9340 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MattsMotoWoRX I checked the oil level at both the dipstick and the plastic tubing from the oil reservoir after riding the motorcycle for 10 miles. The level was where it was supposed to be on the dipstick and at the plastic tubing it was just above the minimum. So, no additional oil was needed. I simply had to ride the bike for a few miles and then immediately check the levels. Again, thanks for the well done video.

      Matt, ok. I was just enquiring because where you have to pass the oil line, it can get damaged if one isn’t careful. Ok do let me know if it works but I think it would.

    • @flekbeita
      @flekbeita 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Because this is a dry sump bike, the drain bolt on the engine will release only the residual oil that wasn't pumped back up to the reservoir.
