Yeah, a "real" therapist would not do anything close to that. If the women needed help to talk to her fiance about ethical non-monogamy, the therapist would start with so many other things including group therapy about why she is interested in it, and how the couple could first shore up any relationship shortcomings. Then with a solid relationship based on trust and good communication then you can proceed to discuss opening up the relationship.
Either that or she is trying to live through her in a way. I mean why use "we" instead or "(OP ex's name)"? She probably brought it up in a past relationship and the person didn't agree and broke up with the therapist. It's really a 50/50 on it

Not necessarily, therapy has always been a racket. There are good meaning people in the industry. But the industry as a whole is a scam. Opening up your family life to outsiders can never have a good outcome because anyone listening will inevitably skew the conversation towards their own beliefs. It sounds like the therapist was an old feminist cat lady who will die alone so hates seeing others happy. Put that person in a position of authority over a vulnerable woman and the results can be catastrophic.
