  • Making your own sport drink is incredibly easy and environmentally friendly. This simple recipe gives you the carbs and electrolytes you need to keep running without crashing. Oh, and it's cheap to make, too. Who said you can't have it good, fast and cheap?
Write or run, let's get it done!

This is indeed cheaper but calories count is a bit low for me. I use maltodextrin and fructose powder for a bit more calories. Interesting find!

I’m curious about maltodextrin. I just watched a podcast with Ryan Hall and he said he’d add it to his shake before a workout or race. I know it adds carbs but I’m not sure how many extra calories you get from a serving. I like making this drink because there’s nothing processed. I tend to run fasted so I don’t think I get enough carbs on my long runs. I’d consider adding it to the drink to test out. I wonder if it’ll thicken it too much for the flask. Is that how you use it?

@@writeorrun if you look at Dextrin based products One serving is about 400 cal. Which is thick. I usually do 200-300 cal mix.
For my own mix, I tried to stick with a similar consistency. I was thinking adding juice and flavor but itself taste good already. I also add a spoonful of electrolytes powder too.

@@writeorrun I came from a cycling background. Being out there for hours and lacking carbs to go home is my biggest fear. So I always try to drink and eat as much as possible

@@youling1997 Dang! You add electrolytes too?! You really pack it into your drinks! I know cyclists tend to take in a lot of fuel. I used to cycle, too, and I was always hungry. I’m going to have to do some experimenting.
