    :) I'm happy for you both! When i was your apparent age my wife and i went roundtrip US cross country camping for a few weeks from Florida to Utah on a 1982 Honda GL500 Silver Wing. It was an experience but clearly doable. Many years and motorcycles later, I now have moved into the realm of comfortable luxury on a 2018 Honda Gold Wing. But i fondly look back on my early riding and that trip! If you're ever in the US, let's ride! Keep enjoying and stay safe! - Richard Phinney, FL, US

    Thanks for sharing. I've been searching for a video on 2 up riding with the CB500X and I'm glad that you were able to ride for such a long ride. This definitely peaks my interest in buying this bike.

      Not sure of you've bought it yet, but I bought a used 2016 model a few months ago and love it to pieces. These bikes are heavily undervalued in the US, and I got mine at 3K miles for a rediculous price, a little more than a quarter of its showroom price.
      I think if I could tell myself something pre-purchase it would be that this bike is misunderstood - in a good way. It is probably one of the most versatile machines out there today. It does everything pretty well, but nothing perfect.
      A lot of reviewers using this bike are beginners or people retiring from 1,000+ cc machines. Neither are putting it to the test, and as a result people claim it can't do this or that. But truthfully it can do anything, it's a goldilocks bike that can be ridden offroad (I've tested it myself!), toured, or go for a quick spin. You won't regret it, I don't think I'll ever get rid of mine.

    I feel that your girlfriend was a very polite and self sacrificing to agree to go on a lengthy ride like that , especially since she had not ridden much before that.

    This is the end of 2020.
    It is a 500cc motorbike .
    In the past mods ,scooter boys were doing weekend trips two up with camping stuff dressed for a nightclub .
    They did it on 125cc lambrettas , or vespas , some had 200cc.
    Most could hit the speed of this 500cc bike.
    Rockers ,greasers , were mainly on Triumph Bonnevilles .
    Never heard anyone talking about engine vibration , handler bar shudders or wind from a crap windshield.
    They just enjoyed the ride .
    If you want car like comfort , buy a convertible .
    Having frozen mits , and nuts was all part and parcel of the fun .
    As was fixing it at the side of the road or leaving it at a farm and hitching home .

    Great video!
    Touring on a motorcycle and enjoying it doesn’t need a lot of cc.
    The most memorable one I had was one where I toured the south of India with a pillion.
    The bike was a Bajaj Pulsar 150cc with 12-15BHP of power at the most, no top box, no panniers. It was super reliable and that was pretty much all that mattered to me.
    Keep riding!

    A modern 2020+ 500cc Honda should be no problem to ride for long distance. 30yrs+ ago two of us went down to the Dorset coast from Cheshire (255mls one way) in a single go with a full load of camping gear on board for two week stint, that was no problem. we were on an "R" registered Honda cb400/4 (the blue one) brilliant bike. So a modern Honda with a bigger engine, should be a breeze. We had two weeks touring round before another 255mls ride home, Re- Aches and pains, is not allways the bike fault but is also health and fitness of a person.

    I'm not sure where you started, maybe Denmark? Anyway, the luggage is pretty important for the trip, as you noted, and maybe you can find something that will allow the passenger more room, or a better seating position...if you take the dog along, it forces you to have a lot more luggage space than "normal" for two people? I used a 'tank bag' for some items that I needed to be able to get at easily, or to take off the bike when parked, like batteries, chargers, camera gear, documents... depending on the size, and leg length, of the passenger, you might even consider moving the passenger foot-pegs, via welded, or bolted-on plates? Have Spaß !

  • @daveinwla6360
    @daveinwla6360 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Belgium and the Netherlands (and Denmark) are pretty flat, and if you stick to those areas,

    What if my girlfriend is 300lbs? Will this bike move her?

    • @thebrightrider
      @thebrightrider  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it would be safer to buy a higher cc bike if you plan to ride a lot with her on the back. Also something with a bit more preload travel. I haven’t done lots of research on bikes that are the best choice for that but I think the big GS, the big Africa Twin and the Triumph Tiger 900 are gonna be perfect (expensive though)

    Let's see... You maybe 65 Kg, girlfriend maybe 52 Kg, sure a 500cc bike handled you both just fine. If I remember correctly, the Netherlands has a 130Kmh top speed on its freeways, but you're going the scenic route so top speed doesn't matter.
    It is good to have the decision made by your passenger. I don't know if there is a backrest made for that bike, but maybe that would make her more comfortable after a few hours.
    2 foot long sandwiches each in one day? You really worked up an appetite on that ride!
    5 Hours is a long trip? When I lived in Germany, I would take visiting Americans on a 5 country tour in one day (in a BMW, not a motorcycle).

    You won’t save much weight with soft luggage, and you have much more security with the hard panniers.
