"OILY RAG" Morris Minor & more | HOPLEY HOUSE classic car meet Feb 2024

- The fabulously "oily rag" 1954 Morris Minor, destined for a pan-European six-day road trip, was one of the highlights of the February 2024 classic car meet held at the Hopley House farm shop near Middlewich in Cheshire.
The Minor's owner bought this early Series 2 from its original owner some 27 years ago, although it then sat in a building until May 2023 when it was exhumed and prepared for the road. A rebuilt 1098cc A-series engine sits in its engine bay, in readiness for a European road trip taking in Belgium, France and Monte Carlo to name just three locations. The original 803cc is with the car.
In fact A-series powered cars were a feature of several classic cars turning up at this meet, from a pair of A35s, the '54 Morris Minor, and (in transverse form) the 1098cc unit fitted to a 1964 Austin 1100. No Minis this time, but I'm sure they'll be back. Are there no roadworthy A40 Farinas in the area?
Other cars in attendance included a Pop 103E, our MX5 Mk1, VW camper, Lotus 7 Series 2, E-Type, a Downton-tuned MGC GT, pre-war Wolseley/Alvis special, Viva HC, Spartan kit car, Jaguar S-Type R, and a Pontiac Firebird, so a real variety. The weather was on our side too.
Thanks so much for watching, let me know in the comments which of the cars you'd be taking home if given the chance.
Please have a look at the rest of the Old Classic Car channel, there are countless videos about classic car shows, museums, and tinkering sessions on here now. A number of previous Hopley House farm shop car meets will also be found here now.

Hi,
How do you know of these car meetings, is it from experience ? I only get to Knopf car meetings after the event, I’ve tried Google and the internet but often they’re very out of date, it would be great if you could mention your videos where and what meetings are coming up 😁 👍🏻
Part experience, part just looking around, there are Facebook groups/pages for Crewe Heritage Centre, Cars and Caffeine at Combermere and so on, dates get put on pages like that. I also search Facebook events, look in magazines, check out websites owned by show organisers and so on.@@ronpalmer1371

Thanks for the reply,
Just a quick shout out the s2 morris minor has done its trip to europe eight countrys ending in monte carlo no problems just a flat tyre !!
A very tasty gathering of fine cars. Hope your father recovers quickly and is back in the MGB asap.
Another good video RJ, the E type looked fantastic and the Rover 75 looked surprisingly good ! Thanks.
Great little gathering.
📻🙂
NIce one again RJ, I hope your Dad is on the mend and recovers soon.
Thanks, yes he's hobbling around back at home now and eager to get back out in his MG
@oldclassiccarUK love the older generation, tough as old boots and straight talkers as well 👍🤗🇮🇪
Nice event good selection of cars. cheers Bob
Thanks 👍

My first car was a 1958 A35 in black Reg RAM 251.
I’m retired now and I own a 1955 Morris minor.
The Series 2 is probably my favourite Minor of all, thanks for watching

Stars of the show, and at opposite ends of the spectrum, the pristine E-Type and the oily rag Minor (nice nerdy feature on Morris Minor rear body mouldings!). Super green MGC GT a close second. I had to chuckle at your dubious view of the Youthful Assistant's choice of a supercharged Ford Pop!
When the youth gets his own car on the road no doubt it will be a Street Sleeper.......
Thanks for a great video
Hope your dad is ok must do the exercises tell him!!!!!!!!!!!😢😢my wife had knee opps
Great cars and turn out😊😊😊
Ha yes he's doing all the prescribed exercises
It's amazing how quick they recover my
Wife was driving 😮 after 1 month
I think I'm probably getting a little predictable but I'd be going home in the Austin 1100 once again (third time now). Another nice video, thanks.
I'll have to try harder, maybe an 1100 Countryman!?
@@oldclassiccarUK Haha, yea, sounds great to me, I'm sucker for anything in that range.
A great turnout cold hands no doubt glad to hear your Dads on the mend i hope you all had rasher butties to warm the Soul before heading home loved the video thank you.
Great vid rick, good collection of classics oñce again.the moggy won my heart .what a lovely little car.love n best wishes to dad.well done rick.😊

The enthusiasm of the dog 🤔

These are my favourite OCC video's.. my dream one day would be to bring my TR 250 over and drive into one of these car meets...maybe even be on OCC! Cheers
I'll look out for your car :)
I like that Ford Popular
I use a Smart TV and you can subscribe if you’re signed in.
👍👍
Thanks Rick. Loved that metallic red E type. Looks the same down to the colour of the Matchbox toy from the early 60's. As a child I got the choice of that or the red Mk 2 Jag of the same era. Chose the Mk2 as the bonnet opened ( still have it, takes pride of place in my cabinet of cars). That Wolseley/ Alvis is interesting and sounds meaningful. The Lotus 7 looked great too but I would prefer it in BRG with a yellow nose (like KAR120C). Also good on that bloke for having the bollocks to tour Europe in that "oily rag" Morrie Grinder, nice to see them being used as found. All the best to your dad for his recovery. Ps: I had to laugh at the end when you mentioned the size of that Ford Ranger truck. These things are very common here in NZ, have been the most popular ute for over 10years now and best selling individual model vehicle ( including cars and SUV's) for some time too.
Yes the E-Type was a belter, I've a small Lesney toy in that colour here, perhaps the same one you remember. The original owner - a D. Bradney - has even scratched his name onto the baseplate, such vandalism :-)
Rick yes it was when Matchbox was by Lesney...real "British steel" not like the Matchbox toys of today.@@oldclassiccarUK
I was very taken by that red viva , the wolsey looked like good fun .
The oily rag Morris Minor was a sight to see, so well preserved. I love that E-type and the colour is nice. The MGC Downton tuned car was immaculate and again the was great, colour on cars can make a real difference I think. I think Harley could clean the Honda for his Mum rather than you Rick? I hope your Dad has a good recovery and he doesn't leap into action too soon. Thanks for another great video Rick. 👍👍
A horsepower explanation video would be great.
Like to see more on the MX5 as to its history and what you have done to it. bit biased as I have a couple so I can only speak for me though.😊
Favourites:
#1 1970 MGC GT 17:25 19:19 39:54
#2 1965 Jaguar E-Type 15:42 21:26 41:19
#3 1964 Lotus 7 23:32 25:10 33:35 37:05
😁👍
Yes please. An explanation of horsepower ratings would be helpful 🤔
If I remember correctly the old HP rating was calculated by the formula: BsqN/2.5 where 'B' is the bore diameter in inches and 'N' the number of cylinders.
I do love 6:30 (Music) the subtitles says..
🚙🚛🚚 = 🎼🎵🎶
A35 is in Tweed Gray
Actually it's Tweed Grey................
Thanks Ernie, that reminds me that I've an old "Austin of England" touch-up paint in the garage in that colour

Not many around here nowadays
Yep a smart TV user can subscribe but check that you still are as TH-cam are in the habit of somehow un subscribing and this included OCC when I checked I was still subscribed just now.
The mgc could be said to be a poor man's aston, a proper man's car
No, that was the Austin-Healey 3000, the MGC was a very poor copy.................
Nice selection of cars at this meet, had to turn the sound down as the constant barking of the dog got right on my nerves. Dismal reflection on owners who think everyone else has to listen to bloody yapping dogs ! You are correct, one cannot subscribe whilst watching on TV, so note to all others that enjoy your videos, subscribe on another device and watch in panoramic glory on the big box. Keep up the good work.
Wrong on both counts, nothing wrong with a happy dog, mine goes to cars and coffee and people love it (Pomeranian), smart TV, press the up button twice and right button once, channel icon appears and select subscribe.
Now you've something......
Thanks for the info, others have said that they can subscribe on TV so long as they're signed in so I'm a bit confused now :-) Easily happens mind
Interesting info on subscribing through the TV so thanks for that. Could not be more happy that you have a happy dog, however a dog that is constantly yapping or barking is generally not happy, and is a pain in the ass to anyone who doesn't want to hear it. A good dog owner doesn't inflict their pet on everyone else,
Best first car would be the grande punto you walked past... in the real world first cars tend to be hammered .... we were all young once 😂👍🇮🇪
On subs, maybe people don't subscribe because it's a niche channel and you sound like a snob. You've got to look at every car that turns up at meets because the owners are there with an interest in cars, even a quick mention will suffice.
If you watch my videos regularly you'll see that I try and feature as many cars as possible, even those that aren't my thing really. I don't remember the car you're referring to, but given that my site and channel are primarily about cars 30+ years of age, the FIAT may not have stood out all that much. I did though give a mention to the Panda 100HPs so you can't really say I don't include later enthusiast-owned cars.
@oldclassiccarUK punto was blue. I'm subbed to both your channels. At 55 and having a " modern classic" going to shows I've had auld club lads come up to me and are basically berate me for being there.
Where do they think old cars come from. I'm in a club led by old fogeys who simply want to go on drives and have tea parties 🤔
Thankfully the local cars and coffee in dundalk 🇮🇪 welcome everybody, check it out online.
