remember going to see them back in 1990. pete came out about 5mins before the rest of morbid angel, did a mini soundcheck, and then just sat there, arms folded, staring at the crowd. that was pretty unsettling for 16yr old me.
I must have seen them the next year during the blessed are the sick tour. The most unsettling thing for me was trying to have a sensible & intelligent conversation with Richard Brunelle on the radio without sounding like a fucking idiot when I called the metal radio station he was a guest at & he took a few calls from Morbid Angel fans like myself. He was an absolute gentleman though & a cool guy so I shouldn't have worried. R.I.P
He did that same thing when my band opened for them in Louisville in the early 2000's. Pete was awesome.

That's badass 😏 hahaha (to original poster) Surprised Pete didn't go into "drum check mode" and just start RIPPIN UP the kit as he was/is known for WHEN he sets up his "sound check"....I was fortunate to see MA as headliners at the San Antonio DEATH Fest in either 99 OR 2000 and yeah man. Pete came out and "checked the kit" for like 15-20 minutes BEFORE the show! I am serious...And being an aspiring DM drummer myself at the time? I WAS mesmerized by not only their show, but Pete jamming beforehand as well 😯. Met him too of course, had him sign ALL my CD booklets (while I held his Ginsing TEA 😏 Lol.) Ohhh yeah... GREAT times 😎🤘🔥🤘
We got to get on their tour bus during the Covenant tour. We had a Doobie the size of the inside of a toilet paper roll and about 8 inches long. Smoked half with Pete and gave him the other half.

I literally felt the magic. This is a lot better than what I was even expecting it to be... David Vincent still holds as one of my favorite vocalists. Mike Patton from Faith No More is another one. 🤘

Man, I remember we saw Morbid Angel 1991 Blessed are the Sick tour at Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg. We got there early and met Richard Brunelle he was cool as heck. Then we walked in backstage and saw Pete ripping those drums! Man, we were like wow then he came over and hung out a bit...now that's a cool cat right there.
I saw morbid twice at the penny arcade in Rochester N.y..on the formulas fatal to the flesh..and gateways tour..with gorguts,within.and withered earth...fun time's

Was listening to World Downfall t'other day and it struck me more how great a drummer Pete is. His bass pedals were melting but the subtlety of the flow & time changes are astonishing.

So refreshing to see fast single strokes on the kicks, everyone doing soft double strokes these days with half the effort. Legend. ❤
Because it's an energy saver, it's utterly pointless to do the hardest thing, simply just because when it's going to sound the same regardless!
@@jacksonwhittier3646Are you a drummer? Those pitter patter soft ass strokes can't be heard in a band practice. Those doubles are only for micd up kicks or triggers. Otherwise, you can keep those weak ass strokes.
@@Centerpieceofmind Lol, yes and I used to use doubles but not much anymore, you can use than anywhere, just bring a guitar amp as a PA like you would for singles. You could also use that same heel toe technique for singles, just split it apart!

I use to think that "I Am Morbid" was kinda corny since it was only really DV and others filling roles.
BUT, having Pete on board def changes my mind on it.

Hay algunas cuestiones demostradas acá, a saber:
1. Este hombre es un mega leyenda de los bateristas de metal extremo; no hay forma si quiera de reprochar algo, el que lo haga es un desubicado.
2. El pedal no hace al hombre….el hombre hace al pedal ( el baterista hace al pedal y demás).
3. Toquen o no toquen con triggers, dejen siempre todo en la cancha.
Pete is a Living Legend and a true Godfather of Extreme Metal Drumming and one of the main innovators of the modern Blast-beat. I have met him several times in the 90's and one of the nicest guys ever. I always thought some Extreme Metal magazine (like TERRORIZER, Metal Hammer, etc.) should do a Special Edition Issue on all the innovators of Extreme Metal. Dave Lombardo, Pete Sandoval, Nicholas Barker, Mick Harris.. I am sure there is more than enough material on this to do a issue of some kind. STAY BRUTAL PETE..!!! 🤘😎🤘
