    Pete talks about planning to record Morbid Angel's 2nd album, Blessed Are the Sick.
    Nocturnus can be heard practicing in the background.

    Pete is actually one of the nicest guys I've met. I got to see Morbid Angel perform back in 1999 and he is the nicest man to talk to. He had back surgery a few years ago and was struggling since his whole life was about drums and nothing else. Take that away from him; where can he go? Maybe discovering a faith gave him a perspective that made him feel better. He is not preaching it, he is not murdering people who don't believe what he believes, he is just trying to make it day to day. So no matter what style of music he plays in, I am sure he will do very well.

      @Kalyosa 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Isnt he playing with terrorizer though...not the most christian metal band, so his faith probably wasnt the sole reason for leaving morbid angel. But in any case i hope hes well

    • @Sean-fv4wi
      @Sean-fv4wi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@Kalyosa It wasn't the sole reason - back problems, personal life issues & probably dissatisfaction with the material they were writing at the time, together with maybe even some personality clashes all must've played a role. But Terrorizer is not an anti-religious band, their lyrics are socio-political.
      Jesus on the cover of World Downfall symbolizes how religion is used by the powers-that-be to divide & conquer the masses & plays a big part in the reasons behind war & suffering through the ages. Just because someone is Christian doesn't mean they have to be in a Christian band.
      Anyway, nice to see fans in the comments section not going the typical "screw Pete for going Christian" route for a change (& no, I myself am not religious at all)

    • @andrepires7687
      @andrepires7687 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Sean-fv4wi it's a misconception to think a christian can't play secular music. Terrorizer isn't a christian metal band but they're not satanists as Morbid Angel. I think it suits Pete better now considering the changes that have happenned in his in the past ten years.

    funny story but i'm a drummer and moved down to tampa around this time and i had a practice space in this same "self storage" unit( 2 doors down from pete's....and i used to go in and practice(i'm a reggae drummer) and i thought there was some sort of machine shop in his unit. so i asked the guy at the front desk one day and he said it was 'some guy named pete sandoval from some band called morbid angel" ....and i was like WOAH thats awesome!!!!

    Pete's statement about their second record at :57 seconds is priceless. That look he has when he says "it's going to kill". That confidence is rare, what a feeling they must have shared knowing how excellent and original they were. Pete's whole vibe here is otherworldly. I wish him all the best and happiness where ever life takes him. Such joy he has given to people through his playing.

    My friend while visiting Florida back then got to see Deicide practicing in a storage unit about a year before their first album. When he told me about it I didnt believe him until the album came out and he said this is the band he saw down there. How awesome that must of been to live down there with such great bands like Morbid Angel and Deicide and others practicing in storage units you could just walk up to. I am sure it got annoying at times for the bands though but Pete Sandoval seems nice and didnt mind talking at all. Lol.

    Extremely cool footage. Pete is one of the very early pioneers of extreme metal drumming. Many have gone well beyond him, but his legend is assured. Watching this, it's apparent how fast, fluid and "even" his chops are, one-trick pony or not. Hope he's doing well. Rumours have been he was (at one time?) using drugs ... then, of course, his back issues. Most of us haven't the foggiest notion what really happened with him leaving MA. However, as I say, I wish him the best. Commando is an original; the man who introduced blast beats into metal. Hail.

Sweetest human there is but he definitely has substance abuse issues but he is a wonderful human with so much time for his fans! I have nothing but nice things to say about him. He is doing a tour titled MORBIDFEST. That features Dave (also a wonderful human) the band is called I am Morbid. I just wanted anyone who wandered to know he’s still alive, and wow what a lovely man, I can’t believe I had the honour of being in the same room with him, let alone getting to chat look after & hang with him. He signed my Altars Of Madness album… An he ASKED ME for a photo! Sweet human.. 💀🖤🤘🏼

      +Scott Belcher You have to look around, some do and some don't. I've been in a band that practiced in two different storage facilities, one had two main grounded power outlets on each side of the space, but the first one we were in only had one outlet next to the one lightbulb in the middle of the ceiling. So we had an extension cord running from the ceiling powering all three guitar setups and the PA, haha. Definitely not the safest method and it may have even damaged our gear, but whatever. I'm from California and we don't have many basements, so it's difficult to find cheap places to practice without getting noise complaints.

      10 years ago and I didn't need to look any farther than this. Was literally about to throw this name to the guy talking about double base drumming back then. I am glad to know you did that when this was posted and he posted. Well done. Dude Gene is still anckles down and open handed, as machine like as ever. Love this guy's style. Am I left handed. Right handed.? I'll play on. Well done.
