So sad to lose such a beautiful soul. She wanted to know the world, she wanted to sing. I hope the investigators are able to use genealogy trees to help narrow the suspects and perhaps find the suspect. It has been used successfully many times here in the U.S. The memorial stone is lovely. May she be resting in peace.

I don't think it's permitted here in the UK, although I think it should be. The police can compare samples to any relative matches that may be on their own DNA database. However, they can't use public genealogy sites to narrow down suspects.

The truth is that N Ireland and the Troubles are a trivial part of this case. This is just an example of the larger issue of dumb tourists going into a strange country while being Clueless about the laws, customs, and social issues of that country . This ignorance is usually compounded by the false belief that the rights and the laws that apply to them in their homeland are somehow portable and protect around the World. As one of them, I can tell you that self entitled Americans are the worst. Just because they come from the "exceptional nation", they arrogantly think that their American rights protect everywhere they go. Many Americans end up dead even in Mexico because of these mistaken beliefs. This young lady didn't suffer from self entitlement but from simple ignorance and her tragic death should be a warning to all people traveling abroad that you need to learn something about the laws, customs, and social issues of ANY Nation before you step a foot there.
      RIP, little sweetie !!!
You were just too good for this terrible world !!!

I was just watching this documentary of Inga on BBC and it saddens me that she had this vision of the world being without danger especially for a girl of 18 traveling all over all by herself with little money.
In 1988 I was 21 not much older than Inga it sounds like she just didn’t know the dangers of traveling from one country to the next (Alone) it’s haunting the way she died and a huge injustice that her murder hasn’t been solved especially with the technology we have these days the way Inga died she deserves justice!
Just because a woman is a tourist doesn’t make it right to not seek justice for whomever did this!
When I read that this was a sexually motivated crime and that ingas underwear were destroyed shows that they never wanted this case to go to court.
What ever happened to truth and justice the people that take this oath are no better than the criminals themselves.

Genetic genealogy is much harder to do in the UK than in the US for legal reasons. The UK does have a very large National DNA Database (NDNAD) with the profiles of known offenders available to search. Basically, their best chance of catching the killer, is if the killer (or one of their near relatives) has been nabbed for another crime. Using GEDmatch is problematic because it's not clear that law enforcement in the UK has the legal right to access the information for this purpose.

@@money606 "modify male thinking".... another disgusting fascist, I see. As I told the other lunatic, men make up the vast majority of murder victims, the majority of victims of violent crimes, the majority of suicide victims, the majority of victims of workplace death, and a whole boatload of other depressing ass statistics. And that's not even to mention, that women can, and do, commit these exact same crimes. Women murder people, including men. Women rape people, including men. In fact, the rate of women committing violent crimes is rising alarmingly fast. I guess we should "modify" women's thinking as well, huh? Jesus christ, feminism is a fucking cancer. Men do wayyyyyyyyyy more good in this world than harm. Look around yourself. Literally everything you see was built by men. From the chair you're sitting on, to the clothes you're wearing, to the phone in your hand. And that's not even to mention all of the vital, necessary jobs that men do which women think they are too good for such as plumbers, exterminators, etc etc. There is nothing wrong with "male thunking". In fact, if anything, we need even more it. The vast majority of criminals come from fatherless homes. In fact, a person is much, much less likely to commit a crime if they have a good father figure in their lives. Again, these are facts which are backed up by actual data. It's truly terrifying to see just how many nazi psychos such as yourself actually exist out there. Men don't just trip and become rapist and murderers. These are deeply flawed, aberrant individuals who are then punished accordingly. My 11 year old son does not need to be taught not to rape. Because he's not a rapist. Having a dick doesn't make you a disgusting criminal. Being a rapist makes you a rapist. Where I'm from, black people commit the vast majority of violent crimes. Again, that's just statistics. Can you imagine someone saying "We just need to modify the thinking and behavior of black people everywhere"? They would be absolutely crucified and rightly so. And it's no different. You're no better. You're judging an entire demographic of people on the actions of a few of the worst among them. That is literal definition of discrimination. There is no more privileged person on the face of this Earth than a western woman, but damn they sure do love playing the victim.

I hope the answers will be found. 8 years and 621 km between this murder of a young female traveler and the Sophie Toscan du Plantier case, I wonder if they might be connected. But what good is it to speculate. Forensics will have to solve these crimes and give the families some peace of mind at last.

I remember back packing in the late 80’s starting from Asia thru to Europe and just never thought about stuff like that even though I’m a guy I could of disappeared or been murdered along the way which I did in part on my own. I did however travel on and off with two Austrian girls we just kept bumping into each other at different places. Nothing romantic at all just mates BUT one night in a club I was having a few beers minding my business when suddenly out of the blue I had a pair of arms thrown around my neck and a kiss on the cheek (I didn’t spill my beer I am an Aussie after all 😂) as I turned I saw it was one of my Austrian friends Jo she kept her arms around me but was telling this guy that I was her husband I could see on the look on his face he didn’t believe her but I just played along he eventually gave me a look of utter hate and disgust stormed of swearing. So Jo then tells me the guy offered to buy her a drink she declined but he was very insistent so she said ok long story short after a few drinks two of his friends rock up and they where trying to heard her towards the door of the club where a car was waiting with a fourth guy in it…. Scary stuff.. she managed to break away and just so happened to lay eyes on me and just made a beeline for where I was sitting. She was quite tall and athletic I’m guessing she had the muscle to break away from them but nowadays when I watch or read stories like Ingas it makes my blood run cold to what might of happened that night in 1989. Anyway that didn’t lead to any romance between us but we still say “Hi’ to each other on FB now and then.

What a loss to all of us!A passionate, life loving, creative ,vibrant young woman with a free spirit.. this IS the evil here. When I saw her stone dates I realized that she was born just 11 days after my very memorable 9th birthday and the sadness hit my heart…also she was killed on my wedding anniversary- A date that means so very much to me for we were married & together nearly 40 years until he had to leave this world in 2017. Everyone says “Life isn’t fair sometimes”, but I say why the hell shouldn’t it be for the clean lovely people and things that others like Inge that had such promise and shine?
