This game was my first ever video game as a child and I have to say if you like beat em ups with cool music and spookiness you will feel right at home. I definitely agree that music is a saving grace for this kind of game, and it is also cool too that it is a very popular game to speed run.
Cool video, Ren! Detailed and informative review of the game and a very creative ending! 😮 I also look forward to your funny takes at the very end. Makes me laugh! Thanks for high quality reviews, you put a lot of work and thought into them. 10/10 !
Awesome Review Man! I played this Game way back as a Kid and i was probably to young for it at the Time but man it was so awesome. The Temple Scene with the Corpses and dark Music scared me for Life xD they definetly created a really good Atmosphere! Loved the Boss Fights, different Weapons for each Character, getting new Costumes if you help the 1 dude and get his glasses back, encountering special Fights that only trigger when you fullfill certain Conditions. I finished it probably 12 Times in my 24 Years of Gaming, this Game was probably the Reason why i bought all Onimusha Games, Genji, Shinobido, Tenchu and Way of the Samurai 1-4. The Tank Controls are something to get used to and theres 1 Part in Kotaros Story with a slippery ledge but you can avoid it by sliding down backwards and running as soon as you pick up the Item. The Parry is simply amazing and super satisfying to pull off.
Add: I had the Pal Version since im from Germany. I was able to play it bcz my mom always only checked the USK Rating and it was for 6 Year olds xD Did Esrb or Pegi rated it the same ?
Yeah good point, there is a lot of combined elements from those games. Looks like a Tenchu inspired Resident Evil game, which I guess you could say Onimusha was too, but this being before Onimusha does make it stand out. Thanks a lot Cain! Much appreciated!
Yeah I can throw it in the pipeline. Tbh I tried it like 15 years ago. It was decent but I couldn't get super into it. I hated having to restart from the beginning if you die. Is that what happens? I can't remember its been a long time lol But unlocking moves as you go was pretty cool. Idk, I might have to see how I like it nowadays. Maybe there was something I didn't realize back then, who knows lol Yeah Soul of the Samurai is definitely lesser known. Thanks for watching!
@@greatmentakingovertheworld4800 yeah I do believe you have to start over. I played it as much as tenchu back then, I think it was made by the same developers as well. Are there any other games you can tell us you are reviewing next? I have some more requests Mr mosquito, haunting ground and Robot Alchemic Drive I think are pretty obscure.
Yeah it's pretty decent especially if you like samurai era stuff like I do. Just gotta get used to the jank though lol! Thanks for watching! Good luck on your review!
You know what’s crazy....I completely forgot this game existed. Over time I misremembered this game as the first “Way of the Samurai” entry. I recall this in Chinatown for dirt cheap all the time but never picked up. Never thought it was alpha onimusha 😂
Yo Zero! Yeah, I totally forgot it existed as well. I really missed my window to enjoy it more, playing it 20+ years too late lmao! Still a cool game, just definitely rough around the edges. Thanks for watching bro! Hope all is well with you and your family!
@@greatmentakingovertheworld4800 thanks dude! Hoping to make more gaming content within the next 30 days....but you know life and it’s damn curveballs LOL
My story is that I got this game a flea market but the game was scratched and so it would load the game up and I’d watch the beginning and then once you control the character the moment you go to the next area it’ll freeze. Every time….

Seems cool, personally I'm pumped for the release of Yakuza ishin on PC next year and it'd be nice to see Tsushima on PC given then Sony have released Horizon, GOW & Days Gone (which I enjoyed far more than I expected to, that game gets an unfair wrap IMO).
Ishin looks dope! Yeah Ghost will come to PC eventually as Sony is slowly releasing their stuff there. I'm sure at some point the PC releases will even be day and date same time as the console releases. I've also heard Days Gone is pretty good. I do have it, just haven't gotten around to trying it yet. Huge backlog lol! Thanks for watching!
i remember renting this game along with kensei and einhander i enjoyed this game it was unique at the time. dude you know you can use different swords because have unique attributes you shouldve had 2 different swords by the time you fought the giant monk and one of the swords should do massive damage against him. you didnt talk about getting weapons when beat a boss character and you got plenty of healing items i dont get how died so much on that boss. lol also that game went up in price it sucks to see that it was hidden gem on the ps1 in my opinion.

Man I’ve never seen this before, it’s so weird seeing bits of Tenchu mixed with Alone In The Dark/RE/Fear Effect 😯 Great review as always Ren!

Great video that ending was hilarious
Haha thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it :)
I'm subbing. I'm 29 but feel old af after watching this 🤧 so much nostalgia
I'm glad the video brought back some good ol nostalgia for ya! Wish I played this back in the day alongside Tenchu. Thanks for subbing!
I don't know if you have but I'd love to see you do a review on way of the samurai. Awesome video as always Ren. idk how I never knew about this game.

5:17 What? flower that saves the game? it's unusual :)
Never heard of this game 🤤 definitely one to keep an eye out for. Another great video Ren 👍🏽
Yo Tony! Yeah I guess it's a little more obscure. More than I realized haha! Thanks a lot dude!!!
Update a year later - I finally found this game in the wild & I couldn’t buy it quick enough 🙌🏽
OMG I think I remember the advertisement on a magazine back in those days. PAL land here.
Ah cool, so it must've been Ronin Blade for you guys over there. I had no idea it was called that until recently lol
I got stuck in some cave area whenever i rented this game 😂. Good old days as a kid renting games and movies
Wow you pulled your sword out of its sheath so fast. Did you apply stop motion?
нет, братан, я просто мастер-самурай! Ура!

Great to see another PS1 game! 32 bit era was one of the greatest!
Yes, very nostalgic time period! Cool to finally visit this game after wanting to have played it more than 20 years ago.

Its funny, before seeing this video...the game that resembled Tenchu the most to me was Nightmare Creatures
Really? Haha that's interesting. I guess they are both pretty dark games. Literally and in vibe lol

Love me some Onimusha!
Good series! Hopefully with the rise of samurai games lately, we can see Onimusha once again.
Bushido Blade needs a remake. like a decade ago
Yeah seriously! Would love to see it!

2:59 it’s cool that Taka’s nipples stick out :)
Oldschool gamers just play boss fights without save states, over and over again. 🙂
Acid nemmy, many times, kicked my ass.. Fuck.. 🤣
Kotaro looks like dou Niu from ahenmue
Lol what? The main samurai guy? Do you mean the giant monk boss you fight against? That guy definitely looks like Dou Niu lol
