Tonpa vs. Meruem is the anime equivalent of the Mark Zuckerberg vs Elon Musk fight except more iconic. The minute Tonpa shows up you already know he’s gonna raze the whole place to the ground. The entire ant race is nothing in the face of the majestic, glorious specimen that is Tonpa.
The irony in the lethality of Netero’s Hundred Type Guanyin Bodhisattva is that Guanyin is actually a real Buddhist icon who’s known for being the embodiment of mercy, peace, and kindness. The contradicting, almost twisted way in which she is being depicted by Togashi is what makes this battle particularly compelling to me. Bodhisattvas are regarded as figures of absolute love and altruism. Per Buddhist scripture, they’re beings who despite already being enlightened and therefore given allowance to ascend to Nirvana, still chose to remain tethered to the mundane world in order to help others who are still suffering. Among the many Bodhisattvas, Guanyin _especially_ is known for being so loving and forgiving, she doesn’t have the heart to even ‘step on an ant’. She deeply values all forms of life and her mercy extends to anyone and everyone, regardless of status, identity, or past wrongdoings. She listens and she teaches but she doesn’t hold judgement nor does she punish. All she asks is that all pleas for help to her, are heartfelt and sincere. She’s perceived as the deification of pure compassion and tolerance so as a result her image is often portrayed with many eyes and arms to represent how she has a helping hand to hold out for every suffering being she sees. Again and again, despite the King’s continued attempts at peaceful diplomacy through open dialogue, the Chairman uses Guanyin’s hands to contemptuously smash and swat at Meruem like he’s an insignificant fly, actions that are in complete conflict with her original ideology and the very essence of her gentle, loving nature. The intentional choice in imagery that presents a symbol of such unconditional clemency and compassion but recharacterized as a means for callous violence and destruction instead, makes for an interesting sense of incongruity and is pretty thematically significant. Little details that are sprinkled throughout the story, like these references and the imagery borrowed from Buddhist philosophy and scripture, show just how layered and well constructed HxH’s narrative is. ***Disclaimer: Bc Guanyin is such a popular and well loved deity in more than just one culture, there are literally endless variations of the lore surrounding her. Some artworks even depict her as a man so the info I give here is just part of the version that was shared with me at the Buddhist monastery I visited growing up.
I will explain something because you guys are new Anime watchers, the reason they switch from a fight to another plot, is because if you have the full fight first the timing might not fit with the other plot points in the arc. The best example I can give you is we needed to finish off Gon's plot with Killua before Knuckle's fighting with Youpi finished, otherwise Knuckle would be dead. Meleoron grabbed Killua just in time to save Knuckle when he was about to die. However if you just show the fight with Knuckle vs Youpi without the context It would seem like Killua just showed up out of no ware because he was still with Gon. So while our heart might want to stay with one fight or another, the plot requires other plots to move before the end of a fight.
This... i totally agree...and it also show everything (the scene) happen at the same time. This is not Dragonball, for example leave it to Gohan to fight Cell, the rest watch and commenting.

The 100 type Guanyin is what Zeno was referring to as Netero’s trump card. And we already got some backstory, when he finished his prayer-punching training and cam back to the dojo, the master was able to catch a glimpse of “Lady Guanyin” which is what had him all emotional.
i think the purpose of all the 'teasing' of fights, transitioning to diff characters is to also show how everything is happening all at once and how the author gives every character an important role to the story. keep in mid this hole sequence hasnt even been 30mins yet. the more you rewatch hunter hunter the more you actually grow to appreciate it esp when you realize how massive this world is(metaphorically and literally). and its also sad cus nobody can write/direct this story any better than togashi himself.

Meruem is such a fascinating 'villain' because he starts out despicable... but then he becomes something that could have been incredible. His solutions were by NO means perfect, he was proposing something that in theory sounded good but is inherently flawed and untrustworthy. But he showed such promise. I wish sometimes that he could have been given a chance, but that wasn't a risk anyone could afford.
"Before my heart is swayed". Netero is certainly effected by King's speech. He knew King maybe the only one who capable of guide and correct the world how it should have be.
The problem is two things: 1. Mereum is extremely fickle. It wasn’t long ago that he thought humans were only useful as cattle. Who’s to say that while exterminating the worst humans he becomes jaded to humanity and decides to just make humans extinct. He could be a great force for good but equally a great force for evil. It’s not really worth the risk to let him do as he pleases. 2. The people Meruem is talking about exterminating are political and military leaders. He would force a full on war as the corrupt at the very top would throw the lives off the innocent at the king and his ants to protect themselves. By the time all of the corrupt leaders are dead, so is most of the world’s population and landmass which would be obliterated by the fighting (including the use of nukes likely). An assassination now before he can target politically-powerful people is the best solution for causing the least amount of death.

Besides powerful weapon such as nukes, Netero probably believe that none other things could've hurt King. IMO, if King himself plans to kill those higher ups of the humanity, he is capable to do so. And that's why Netero is somewhat shaking inside coz it may have like 5-10% that King could have change things to be better.

Even if he said he was only going after corrupt humans, it wouldn’t be hard for politicians to spin that as him being a threat to all of humanity which would lead to a war against him. Meruem might win (there are probably nen abilities out there capable of beating him) but he would easily wipe out most of humanity. The resource drain of a war plus the inevitability of nukes being used would leave what remains of humanity after the war in a dire situation. A war is a bad outcome regardless of who would win it. It’s better to kill him before a war can start (which is inevitable regardless of Mereum’s intent).

Jackson the author doesn’t end the story, it continues for quite a while after the anime ends and it’s still going. He actually released new chapters a while back but hasn’t released anymore since. BUT I think the anime does end at a good spot for “anime only” ppl, if you just watch the anime it ends at a decent point where the story answers some of the questions n brings a close to some of the story lines. The manga continues with the story…just in a different direction that you’d never expect or see coming. Unfortunately almost EVERYTHING yall wanna see and have questions about happens in the manga after the anime ends. Everything about the phantom troupe and the scarlet eyes is in the manga. It’s pretty insane and I highly recommend reading it, personally I had to know how the Hisoka VS chrollo fight went cuz hisoka is my favorite characters of the story so I went and read it and once I started I couldn’t stop!! I hope for new HxH chapters everyday but I understand the author is in poor health and taking care of himself is more important…but I really really wanna know what happens next!!!!!!!!
Damn 126 is gonna be next week 💀💀💀💀 Also just to note if you guys don't know the story is not over by the end of the anime the manga has more but just not enough so they picked a good stopping point and ended it. Also the anime will probably never come back unless the manga gets finished which will also not happen if the manga continues with its current pace because the writer will probably pass away or just get too old to write the story. So let's hope Togashi (the writer) gets better and starts giving us more chapters, at the very least I hope he finishes the current arc in the manga.
Netero's Bodhisattva attack most probably works as, 1 put hands together with or without that specific motion to bring out/activate the statue. 2. Emit his aura out to create the statue. 3. Certain hand movements to activate 1 out of 100 attacks. 4. The Statue is tied to his arm/hand speed (which is why its OP, its a terrible attack that becomes insane because of his physical speed he spent a decade on.) 5. Aim? don't know maybe or he have to position himself and the statue to hit. 6. He has to put his hands back together again to attack with the statue again. Funny thing he is an Enhancer but he is only using Emitter (creating statue) and Manipulation (moving the arms) techniques but he ties those into his Enhancer skills. This says a lot about his dedication and pride as a martial artist.
21:21 The problem is, it is will have open ending for a even more bigger future arc and in the manga it just only in starting phase, despite so many years are passed. The author is sick, so much that he posted spoilers on how HxH would end, because he believe he couldn't end it before he passes. Which is a shame. It is possible that because of that we would never get continuation (Season 2) and it will left in somewhat unfinished open ending. Ending on 148th episode is not that bad, but it hyping up you so much which is a problem of itself...
Also, the influence of Kentaro Miura passing should not be underestimated, i think it made a lot of authors to think of their own mortality @@BuffPomsky
One major thing I like about this arc is despair. Netero vs meruem. Outcome is obvious. Gon vs pitou. Actually pitou is the best nen user among chimera. She learned it,she taught it and she mastered it. We can guess who would win. I remember sweating while going through this arc.

I don't think it's ever explicitly stated but we see the flashback of Netero training by bringing his hands together and punching but none of his attacks with the Guanyin are a simple punch, so I assume over years of training he had to do the same repetitive process for each of his 100 attacks. It's weird that in the manga and anime Meruem comments that bringing his hands together is the only move Netero has that's faster than him when Netero's clearly doing both, bringing his hands together and doing the motion for the attack before Meruem can react.
Its not that the hxh will not come back there's just not enough material to adapt and the story is currently ongoing. You can't really adapt an unfinished story. Due to author's chronic back pain he can't really sit for longer periods of time which is why the story goes on year long hiatuses. To give you a perspective, the part that the 2011 anime ends on was completed in 2012 and since then only 61 chapters have been released. In comparison, one piece has released over 550+ chapters. But like I said, it will come back one day because it's extremely popular and the author really wants to write and finish the story.
I actually love the Ikalgo , Welfin stuff , like ik the placing was very bad , but put that kind of back and forth in any other show and people will call it PEAK . Also did the Ikalgo calling Welfin Zaikahal thing was not in this episode its was soo touching .
These dudes went from hating all anime for being slightly weird, and now here they are on the edge of their seats over a story about ants that look like animals and have super powers, and using events from other anime to make comparisons.
Netero didn't have any other choice and it sometimes irritates me that people play up the humans becoming monsters angle when talking about this arc. Meruem JUST killed hundreds of thousands of people in the last few days alone, you really think a few nice words are enough of a reason to open a dialog with him? All you have to do is think about this happening in the real world, there is no moral dilemma, it is the right thing to do 100%. In saying that obviously we are shown the depths that our protagonists are forced to fall to and there absolutely is the opposite change occuring in Meruem who is discovering his humanity but that doesn't change the facts of what is happening and what the right choice is for our protagonists.
*SPOILER* Yeah, but in the end Meruem fully sided with humanity. And eventhough he had killed so many people in the past, if he were to be the ruler of the world, we’ll probably prevent more deaths caused by humanity

Again, when the arc gets you hyped and the pacing speeds up a little bit, it is completely halted by a boring ass fucking character like ikalgo and lesser interesting side story. This makes the pacing and quality completely disjointed and the contrast in the level of interest one has for the netero v meruem moment to watching corny ass ikalgo running around is massive. These guys picked up on it, and plenty of others have picked up on it and have time and time again become frustrated. Chimera arc has quality moments, but lacks consistency.
what surprises me is how something like a cut to ikalgo seemingly completely negates all the peak for some people that came before and comes after, as if this is somehow like the final nail in the coffin for a shitty story arc. There really isn’t many instances in the arc of being cut away from something “exciting” to something that isn’t as hype (who cares) so people acting as if this makes the entire 100+ chapter arc immediately boring and senseless are smoking crack and have very likely only watched it once

It's not just ikalgo, a good chunk of the first half where the training happens is painful to watch, every scene with Palm before her transformation is horrible, the stupid date she went on with gon. Cheetu and the lion guy weren't particularly interesting fights, youve got dumb shit with bizeff, and on top of that you have a narrator that is a hit and a miss. The arc reeks of inconsistent pacing. Once the invasion actually happens its in slow motion, and is disrupted by side stories that just aren't interesting by characters that you don't give a fuck about. Yes, it impacts the story in the future, that doesn't take away from the fact that it is utterly boring to watch even if necessary. Too many times the arc dips to like a 5/10 or a 6/10. The arc is carried by its moments. People love the PEAKS that this arc has to offer. But it isn't PEAK or high quality for the 100+ chapters it goes on for. Again, people like you who don't want to see your precious arc get criticism are ignorant about people's understandable complaints. Nobody says the entire 100+ chapter arc is boring because of just the ikalgo scene and the like. Nobody. You said that. What people don't like is the rollercoaster of quality the arc has. For as many good moments it has, it has a ton of shit that just isn't interesting and requires a lot of patience to sit through, even if it is ultimately crucial to the story. There is a reason why this arc gets the most praise AND the most complaints on the Internet.

A story requiring a lot of patience is really not that bad of a thing imo and there's thematic and narrative depth to be found in almost every scene of the chimera ant arc that I enjoy slowly making my way through and picking apart. I completely understand all the criticism the arc gets, I was definitely too hyperbolic in my first comment, I just enjoy the slowed-down pacing and the time the story gives to each new character, even if it temporarily takes time away from an established one I like more.

i think the purpose of all the 'teasing' of fights, transitioning to diff characters is to also show how everything is happening all at once and how the author gives every character an important role to the story. keep in mid this hole sequence hasnt even been 30mins yet. the more you rewatch hunter hunter the more you actually grow to appreciate it esp when you realize how massive this world is(metaphorically and literally). and its also sad cus nobody can write/direct this story any better than togashi himself.

Meruem is such a fascinating 'villain' because he starts out despicable... but then he becomes something that could have been incredible. His solutions were by NO means perfect, he was proposing something that in theory sounded good but is inherently flawed and untrustworthy. But he showed such promise. I wish sometimes that he could have been given a chance, but that wasn't a risk anyone could afford.

"Before my heart is swayed". Netero is certainly effected by King's speech. He knew King maybe the only one who capable of guide and correct the world how it should have be.
The problem is two things:
1. Mereum is extremely fickle. It wasn’t long ago that he thought humans were only useful as cattle. Who’s to say that while exterminating the worst humans he becomes jaded to humanity and decides to just make humans extinct. He could be a great force for good but equally a great force for evil. It’s not really worth the risk to let him do as he pleases.
2. The people Meruem is talking about exterminating are political and military leaders. He would force a full on war as the corrupt at the very top would throw the lives off the innocent at the king and his ants to protect themselves. By the time all of the corrupt leaders are dead, so is most of the world’s population and landmass which would be obliterated by the fighting (including the use of nukes likely).
An assassination now before he can target politically-powerful people is the best solution for causing the least amount of death.
@@cahan557 I 100% understand your points. However, the man stands before Netero right now is probably the strongest being on this continent or the world. Besides powerful weapon such as nukes, Netero probably believe that none other things could've hurt King. IMO, if King himself plans to kill those higher ups of the humanity, he is capable to do so. And that's why Netero is somewhat shaking inside coz it may have like 5-10% that King could have change things to be better.

Even if he said he was only going after corrupt humans, it wouldn’t be hard for politicians to spin that as him being a threat to all of humanity which would lead to a war against him. Meruem might win (there are probably nen abilities out there capable of beating him) but he would easily wipe out most of humanity. The resource drain of a war plus the inevitability of nukes being used would leave what remains of humanity after the war in a dire situation.
A war is a bad outcome regardless of who would win it. It’s better to kill him before a war can start (which is inevitable regardless of Mereum’s intent).

NETERO x KING has the best panels
Jackson the author doesn’t end the story, it continues for quite a while after the anime ends and it’s still going. He actually released new chapters a while back but hasn’t released anymore since. BUT I think the anime does end at a good spot for “anime only” ppl, if you just watch the anime it ends at a decent point where the story answers some of the questions n brings a close to some of the story lines. The manga continues with the story…just in a different direction that you’d never expect or see coming. Unfortunately almost EVERYTHING yall wanna see and have questions about happens in the manga after the anime ends. Everything about the phantom troupe and the scarlet eyes is in the manga. It’s pretty insane and I highly recommend reading it, personally I had to know how the Hisoka VS chrollo fight went cuz hisoka is my favorite characters of the story so I went and read it and once I started I couldn’t stop!! I hope for new HxH chapters everyday but I understand the author is in poor health and taking care of himself is more important…but I really really wanna know what happens next!!!!!!!!

Netero's Bodhisattva attack most probably works as,
1 put hands together with or without that specific motion to bring out/activate the statue.
2. Emit his aura out to create the statue.
3. Certain hand movements to activate 1 out of 100 attacks.
4. The Statue is tied to his arm/hand speed (which is why its OP, its a terrible attack that becomes insane because of his physical speed he spent a decade on.)
5. Aim? don't know maybe or he have to position himself and the statue to hit.
6. He has to put his hands back together again to attack with the statue again.
Funny thing he is an Enhancer but he is only using Emitter (creating statue) and Manipulation (moving the arms) techniques but he ties those into his Enhancer skills.
This says a lot about his dedication and pride as a martial artist.

It is possible that because of that we would never get continuation (Season 2) and it will left in somewhat unfinished open ending. Ending on 148th episode is not that bad, but it hyping up you so much which is a problem of itself...

One major thing I like about this arc is despair. Netero vs meruem. Outcome is obvious. Gon vs pitou. Actually pitou is the best nen user among chimera. She learned it,she taught it and she mastered it. We can guess who would win. I remember sweating while going through this arc.

I don't think it's ever explicitly stated but we see the flashback of Netero training by bringing his hands together and punching but none of his attacks with the Guanyin are a simple punch, so I assume over years of training he had to do the same repetitive process for each of his 100 attacks. It's weird that in the manga and anime Meruem comments that bringing his hands together is the only move Netero has that's faster than him when Netero's clearly doing both, bringing his hands together and doing the motion for the attack before Meruem can react.

Its not that the hxh will not come back there's just not enough material to adapt and the story is currently ongoing. You can't really adapt an unfinished story. Due to author's chronic back pain he can't really sit for longer periods of time which is why the story goes on year long hiatuses. To give you a perspective, the part that the 2011 anime ends on was completed in 2012 and since then only 61 chapters have been released. In comparison, one piece has released over 550+ chapters. But like I said, it will come back one day because it's extremely popular and the author really wants to write and finish the story.

Netero didn't have any other choice and it sometimes irritates me that people play up the humans becoming monsters angle when talking about this arc. Meruem JUST killed hundreds of thousands of people in the last few days alone, you really think a few nice words are enough of a reason to open a dialog with him? All you have to do is think about this happening in the real world, there is no moral dilemma, it is the right thing to do 100%. In saying that obviously we are shown the depths that our protagonists are forced to fall to and there absolutely is the opposite change occuring in Meruem who is discovering his humanity but that doesn't change the facts of what is happening and what the right choice is for our protagonists.

Again, when the arc gets you hyped and the pacing speeds up a little bit, it is completely halted by a boring ass fucking character like ikalgo and lesser interesting side story.
This makes the pacing and quality completely disjointed and the contrast in the level of interest one has for the netero v meruem moment to watching corny ass ikalgo running around is massive.
These guys picked up on it, and plenty of others have picked up on it and have time and time again become frustrated.
Chimera arc has quality moments, but lacks consistency.
what surprises me is how something like a cut to ikalgo seemingly completely negates all the peak for some people that came before and comes after, as if this is somehow like the final nail in the coffin for a shitty story arc.
There really isn’t many instances in the arc of being cut away from something “exciting” to something that isn’t as hype (who cares) so people acting as if this makes the entire 100+ chapter arc immediately boring and senseless are smoking crack and have very likely only watched it once

It's not just ikalgo, a good chunk of the first half where the training happens is painful to watch, every scene with Palm before her transformation is horrible, the stupid date she went on with gon.
Cheetu and the lion guy weren't particularly interesting fights, youve got dumb shit with bizeff, and on top of that you have a narrator that is a hit and a miss. The arc reeks of inconsistent pacing.
Once the invasion actually happens its in slow motion, and is disrupted by side stories that just aren't interesting by characters that you don't give a fuck about.
Yes, it impacts the story in the future, that doesn't take away from the fact that it is utterly boring to watch even if necessary.
Too many times the arc dips to like a 5/10 or a 6/10. The arc is carried by its moments. People love the PEAKS that this arc has to offer. But it isn't PEAK or high quality for the 100+ chapters it goes on for.
Again, people like you who don't want to see your precious arc get criticism are ignorant about people's understandable complaints.
Nobody says the entire 100+ chapter arc is boring because of just the ikalgo scene and the like. Nobody. You said that.
What people don't like is the rollercoaster of quality the arc has. For as many good moments it has, it has a ton of shit that just isn't interesting and requires a lot of patience to sit through, even if it is ultimately crucial to the story.
There is a reason why this arc gets the most praise AND the most complaints on the Internet.

A story requiring a lot of patience is really not that bad of a thing imo and there's thematic and narrative depth to be found in almost every scene of the chimera ant arc that I enjoy slowly making my way through and picking apart.
I completely understand all the criticism the arc gets, I was definitely too hyperbolic in my first comment, I just enjoy the slowed-down pacing and the time the story gives to each new character, even if it temporarily takes time away from an established one I like more.
